  1. Really? I'd like to see that statistic... nevermind I probably can find it on MSNBC or the Huffington Post.
  2. No way a buck that big could fly under the radar this long... usually the 'reputable" sources turn out to be not so reputable... and any measurement not scored officially could be way off the mark.
  3. Really?.. Even a simple thread like this is going haywire?... I think recess is over children..lol As to the question... I haven't seen them before, but they are very cool!
  4. Here are some of the bears entered this year into the NYS recordbook http://www.nysbigbuckclub.com/2012-new-york-record-bear.html ... enjoy!
  5. LOL.. a more absurd list (with many more people on the list) would be the list of people that believe any of the new "hop on the bandwagon and feel good" gun control ideas will actually make people safer. The gun debate need never go beyond the fact that they don't and never have made people safer... after that fact all other points become mute.
  6. For the purpose of yearling buck protection alone.. aging to 3.5 ...which is relatively easy...is more than adequate for determining the success of the program... it becomes harder when the intention is to determine and maintain higher age classes than 3.5... it would be nearly impossible to manage whitetails publicly or through mandate as it's done in places like texas or on some QDM properties for much older buck age classes... logistically it would be a nightmare to try and do state wide. Just protecting yearlings in NY would create a vast improvement in buck age structure... beyond that... just not that easy to do.
  7. Check these guys out... if you contact them tell them.. I sent you... they are primarily northern tug hill area.. but they have land in other areas as well. Worth a look anyway. http://www.landandcamps.com/
  8. I'd be curious to know where the "intelligent" part is... I fail to respect any individual that uses misinformation to get their point across or as a defense of something they know little about...
  9. I know I'll get bombarded for this one, but I don't think it is hard at all to kill a buck in NY.. a big buck, yes... But, any buck? Not difficult at all. Well that is unless you're a terrible shot..lol
  10. OMG! Something you and I are totally in agreement with... there my be hope for this world yet!
  11. This stuff fascinates me.. what I know about shed hunting you could put on the head of a pin...so cool how these dogs hunt down sheds.
  12. Yeah I would guess that shooting a second buck would be low.. mainly because most guys find it difficult to do. I just think that given my scenario some guys might get a bit pissed with just one buck... and although I have an opinion about the subject of AR's and 1 buck rule.. I personally don't really care because neither will impact me what so ever as far as the quality of my hunting experience. I'd be ok with a one deer rule... either sex.
  13. I use blunt tips with my recurve... does a number on rabbits and squirrels.. use them on flu-flus as well.
  14. My dad had a champion flushing trial lab in the mid 60's named "Troop".. always thought that was different. My brother had a lab named "Shot".. I had a lab named "Jet" and a beagle named "Gunner".
  15. The book usually is available around State Fair time.. so, Augustish.
  16. There are lots more to come.. there usually are in the neighborhood of 300 entries... so you still might see bucks from those counties. i will have some bear entries as well later.
  17. Absolutely agree... that was my point.. they will resist just as hard against the one buck rule as the AR rule... until it starts to show it's results... but if we're getting the same results... why not choose AR's?.. Although it limits choice... it gives hunters an extra buck tag... and for some (especially those that don't get DMP's) a longer season. Just my thought on things.
  18. I think you misunderstood what I was trying to get across... I understand how the one buck rule works and I am not opposed to it at all... my point is that we have many guys saying how they'd like to have the one buck rule instead of AR and I contend all those that say they are for it now.. will be yelling the loudest if it ever becomes law... and may even start to yell once they know it could be a reality... and yell even louder if the scenario that I discibed happens to them.. Like always NY hunters do a whole lot of talking, but when it comes to "doing" thats a whole different story.
  19. Here are some of the NYSBBC entries that have come in so far this year... I will be putting more up over the next few weeks so keep checking the page http://www.nysbigbuckclub.com/2012-new-york-record-whitetails.html
  20. I have a theory about the 1 buck rule... and that is that although there are a lot of guys saying they would like to see it... I'm betting that if there was really a big push for a 1 buck rule you'd see just as much opposition to it... once hunters realize that their season could be over on the first day of bow season.. they would be all up in arms about not being able to hunt for a buck during the gun season. Why would hunters give up being able to take a buck in archery and gun with an AR imposed and opt for having their season cut short for with a one buck rule.. when both accomplish similar or the same objective? How about this senario? You take a yearling buck during the bow season... you hunt the gun with only a DMP tag left and on opening day you see the biggest buck you've ever had a chance at in the woods standing 40 yards broadside in front of you.. how do you think that will play out? I'm guessing that even the ethical hunters that don't pull the trigger.. will be a bit upset that they signed on to the 1 buck rule instead of the AR. Just my thought on the subject.
  21. You'll have to excuse him because he usually does miss the point... the kool-aid he drinks must be spiked..lol
  22. All your graph would only work if your total investment was just $950.. but in most cases it doesn't work that way... especially in the case of a 401K where you are contantly adding to the investment.. you may be getting still 9% returns but 9% on a greater amount than $950.. the amount compounded over time could produce substantial numbers based on what you are contributing + your past earnings + your 9% average annual return.
  23. Unfortunately NOT talking about differences of opinion on this forum doesn't get rid of the divide. I don't care if you are a gun owner, hunter, anti gun or anti hunting... if you spout nonsense.. you should be called out on it... these talks can't and don't divide something that is already divided. In fact it shows how passionate us true 2nd Amendment citizens are and outs those who are okay with diminishing that constitutional right.
