  1. Don't give up on applying, thats exactly what they are hoping people will do.
  2. It really is kind of a necessity.. hunting is the only proven method of controling and managing animal populations.. so although not a necessity from a personal standpoint.. necessary as a conservation tool.
  3. I would be okay with background checks if thats all it was... I don't need to tell them how many or what guns I'm purchasing. Nor should I have to fill out any paperwork to get checked. Just my name with identification so they can check my background. Once I check out.. that should be the end of it. But we all know that isn't where it ends... they want the paperwork, and the weapons purchased and how many... that should tell everyone what they are really up to... they need none of that to check my background.
  4. Looks like a 1.5 last season coming into his second year. Distinctive body of a very young buck... plus pedicle is quite small as well. Very healthy looking specimen though.
  5. A little late for that restriction for me... the damage has already been done... between that and hotwheels tracks... my mom had a whole arsenal of affective weaponry
  6. Yeah it seems like these jobs never go to the Andy's of the dept. but rather the Barney's... almost like it is viewed as a demotion or punishment.
  7. That is great news! May God continue to bless her and her family.
  8. Well the leader in this case was Doc.. and I'm pretty sure he's smarter than the goat..
  9. That is the liberal way.. the conservative would say "you do what you want and I'll do what I want" the liberal says... "everyone should do it this way because we know best what is good for everyone"... I know that me owning a gun will never get anyone murdered therefore there is no reason that I shouldn't be able to own as many guns of any kind that I choose under the Constitution... liberals want to take away a weapon that overall in the US has just a .0002% of causing a death... you have a better chance of getting killed by slipping in the shower than being killed by a gun. I really don't understand why liberals haven't tried banning guns as a way to stop war in the world. That rationale is right up their alley
  10. Rudimentary intelligence maybe... probably just the ability to copy what he has seen... not necessarily any thought .. more like "follow the leader"...
  11. I think you're right about the lack of movement by hunters today... there are more treestand and blind hunters than ever before... which, as you stated, means less people moving deer... which equals less deer moving and less deer being seen.. and when hunters aren't seeing deer.. they lose interest quickly.. which results in less time in the woods. I have noticed an increase as of late in the amount of hunters near me, still not nearly as many as years ago, but more than in recent years. I have also seen a big increase in the amount of big woods hunters in my adirondack spots... seems as though tracking big bucks in the big woods has become popular with many hunters. What I don't see is the amount of young hunters that will need to come up to take the place of us old hunters... that I think will be the problem for future hunting.
  12. Correct... but the response does not require cognitive thought... kind of like Pavlov's dogs... just a reaction to a stimulus...
  13. Absolutely right.. it is instinct, not intellect. As deer get older they gather more experience... some encounter different experiences and respond much differently based on those experiences... a deer that has never been hunted will tolerate a lot more than one that has.. a deer that has picked off a hunter in his treestand will be more apt to look upwards in the future than one that hasn't... there is no thought process... just response based on past experience with a bit of inate instinct thrown in for good measure.
  14. Wow.. great info and pics... I'll be using this process from now on.
  15. Very Good Fellas...!!! I was just making sure everyone was paying attention... it's good to know that we have some pretty well informed hunters on this forum. This was sent to me by someone working on Yearling Buck Protection here in NY... which made me wonder about how much he is paying attention...
  16. For anyone interested... http://www.sctimes.com/article/20130310/SPORTS05/303100015/Antler-regulation-finding-support-needs-further-approval?nclick_check=1
  17. I agree.. that was the first thing that I noticed was how drastic the cost was lowered for out of staters... who come into the state and hunt taxpayer funded public land for just a few bucks more than what residents pay.. you have to wonder what brilliant minds come up with these ideas...
  18. Although I wouldn't have a problem with crossbow in archery season personally.. all of what you just said i can agree with... and probably works better collectively... but, come on... arguing the same points over and over is pretty much what keeps this forum interesting and alive..
  19. I think any nuclear attempt by North Korea on the US.. should be the end of North Korea... hmmm .. okay maybe not as long as Obama is the President.. but I'm sure he would give them a stern talking to and their wrists would be awful sore from all the slappings they would get. I think he would also scold them but good and put them in "time out".
  20. So with all that are you still thinking the crossbow is anything like your rifle??? I mean other than the things you mentioned that have nothing to do with the power or operation of the bow. Just curious...
  21. " the next 50 years will provide a lot of time for attitudes to evolve way beyond anything that we could imagine." Very true!!
  22. I think i'm with you on all that... I can see the decline in numbers and availibilty of land... where I live I don't really see the people depising hunting.. but where I live is a very conservative town and a big hunting community... even with all the changes that might come.. those that still hunt I think will have the passion.. maybe not like us in our younger years, but the passion none the less... It's hard to be into hunting and not get bitten by the bug... I think you said it before.. it is up to the next generation to carry on the tradition of hunting.. as for us... we will not be around to carrying it on for them.
  23. I'm pretty sure I do.. just not everybody likes what I mean..lol... I think that's the fun part!
