Take the string from the crossbow... doesn't shoot. Take the sting from the longbow or compound... doesn't shoot Take the arrow from the crossbow... doesn't shoot Take the arrow from the longbow or compound... doesn't shoot Take the string and arrow from a gun... oh no... I can't seem to find the string and arrow... can't be right... I've been told how much a crossbow is like a gun... there must be a string and arrow somewhere.. I'll keep looking while you fellas debate which is the best dictionary to use to make your point..

I have quite a few indian heads many from the late 1800's.. I have a metal detector and find them all the time. I have been fortunate enough to have found a 1798 Spanish 2 reale silver coin and it was on my hunting property here in CNY.. near an old cellar hole.

That wasn't a rant.. that was a tantrum... I think he was ready to take his ball and go home. That little exchange shows exactly why you can't have an intelligent dialogue with the Dems in congress or the senate... they are so irrational you might as well be talking to a child... this guy is the epitomy of liberalism... easy to see where the country's headed with these kinds of leaders in Washington. With all the talk of guns and mental illness... I think this guy shouldn't ever be allowed a gun.

Good point.. I would bet that you could give most hunters a bazooka and they still won't see a deer to kill even with that fire power... the weapon only becomes superior if you can put something in front of you to kill... seeing how only about 30% of hunters are successful each year.. I don't see how the addition of a crossbow during bowseason would have much of an impact on bowhunting one way or another.

I donate every year... It's a great program... Butchers that work with the program here in NY are already under health dept. rules and inspections... so there is no guessing about the processing. Who the hell knows what they do in LA... if there was going to be a problem with any program... LA or any other place in CA would be the place.

"I am a dying breed of hunter that definitely is in a tiny minority today. I have gotten out of bowhunting what I wanted, and I suppose it is up to the next generation to shape the future for themselves." That goes double for me... I'm sure I felt differently 20-30 year ago

I guess you can overthink the whole thing as deeply as you want if it is that bothersome to you... my point is that I personally don't understand why anyone would care what someone else is using to kill deer as long as there isn't a safety issue that concerns me.. Killing deer is not rocket science... and the harder it is the more I enjoy it.. just my opinion.. I understand that some of you do feel threatened somehow by other hunters and how they are hunting or what they are hunting with... I personally wouldn't have any problem with a general deer season.. weapon of choice.. I sometimes grab the recurve during gun season just to change things up for a day... but that's just me.. I know the things that concern guys about crossbows does exist, I just for the life of me don't get why they concern them... nothing personal... I just really can't wrap myself around the idea of being concerned about how other hunters choose to do their hunting. It doesn't affect me unless I let it. FYI.. poison dart would be fun... scud missile too easy.

Selfish, jealous, same thing to me... who cares what weapon another hunter is using in the woods? I don't get how that affects me and my hunting experience unless I consume myself with it... so that crossbow hunter takes one of the deer in the woods during archery season... so what? Where is the threat to my hunting experience? What makes a crossbow that threatening that other hunters get up in arms against fellow hunters over it? The only explaination is fear that crossbow hunters will take deer that other hunters feel belong to them... thats crazy. We're really worried about any advantage the crossbow might have over another bow?? Why don't we start banning all the hunters that have an advantage because they have more experience in the woods? Or maybe those that are in better shape? We certainly cannot allow anyone to have an advantage because somehow it will threaten our hunting experience... does anyone else hear how crazy that sounds?

Now I'm disappointed that I thought I was old enough to actually have to click on this thread..lol

I have never understood the threat that guys feel from the crossbow... the crossbow has been a hunting weapon used throughout the ages... before the gun it was probably preferred by those that could get their hands on one... I really believe that any opposition to it is a selfish one... I have also never understood how hunters being in the woods before me with any other weapon should concern me.. unless I was really that worried about my ability as a hunter to be able to find and kill a deer...

Open Minded Vegan???

"Open minded".. another way of saying ".. I can't make a decision on my own".. -
Even void the QDM thing.. getting a group of guys to go in on a larger lease is a great idea.. we have 12 involved in our lease of 1000 acres... it costs each guy $250 a year to small game hunt and deer hunt. That' s less than $25 a month.

Good to hear things are still stable... I know the feeling of what they're going through... it was always a comfort knowing people were praying and thinking of our child... I hope they are getting some of that same comfort.

Any new word about how she is doing?

The camp is 16 x 20 with an 16 x 8 front porch and a 16 x 15 loft...its all rough sawn hemlock.. stick framed.. inside is not complete yet.. I'm saving the best for last... should have inside done this summer... we are planning on just sleeping 4... but you could sleep many more if you arranged it just right... mine is a family camp so it will be a bit nicer than most hunting camps inside...

Prayers here from me and my family...

That's a good question... as of right now there is no crossbow next year... the big buck club has yet to really address this question.. I was planning on bringing it up at our annual meeting in March.

Leaks starting to come out about buck likely over Hanson buck score
nyantler replied to phade's topic in Deer Hunting
This is where most hunters have it wrong.. the buck was never scored or claimed as a non-typical.. there was just one point in question... after long deliberations the B&C club decided to panel score the buck officially and found the point to be abnormal and not coming off the beam, but rather off the adjoining point... hence the point becomes a deduction based on the B&C typical scoring system. It was not considered a non-typical rack. The rack scored 180 as a typical taking it out of contention for the world record. -
Archery minimum is 120 typical 145 Non-typical.. gun is 140 T.. 165 NT.... all based on Net score... gross score is given now in the Big Buck Club just as a point of interest.

Leaks starting to come out about buck likely over Hanson buck score
nyantler replied to phade's topic in Deer Hunting
That's assuming that the guy killed it alone and didn't tell a single sole... the Luckey buck was killed way before scoring bucks was popular and before mass media... it also was lost due to a taxidermist that took the rack from Roosevelt Luckey and was missing for years before it was unearthed nearly by accident and found by Bob Estes the founder of the Big Buck Club in the late 1960's after hearing a tale about the buck. Having said all that... the Luckey buck didn't fly under the radar at all it was well known in Allegany County in 1939 by almost everyone locally... all of whom were not aware that there was such thing as a Boone & Crockett Club. Today the chance of hiding a buck that big would be nearly impossible.. especially in a huge hunting state like Michigan. In my 25 years of working in the hunting community I have never met a hunter that wouldn't get excited over killing a 200+ class whitetail.. old timer or not... 150 class maybe... not 200 class -
Wow.. Lookin' good... very nice
