  1. I think you are right on the money... fourth cheek tooth isn't showing the wear of a 5.5 .. but enough wear for 4.5
  2. I think I'll watch a see how the show is rather than jump to conclusions. It is soooo not my style of hunting, but might still be entertaining.. from what I remember that's all television shows are suppose to be.. entertainment.
  3. http://www.history.com/shows/chasing-tail I think this has some profiles of the fellas in the show... they don't seem to be redneck at all... but who knows until the show airs?
  4. This was sent to me by the History Channel on their new show called "Chasing Tail" Premieres Thursday, April 11th @ 10/9c Connecticut has some of the richest suburbs in America, but it’s also infested with white-tailed deer, which can spread Lyme disease and cause car accidents. Enter Mike Andronaco and his blue-collar buddies. Mike and his friends get permission from wealthy landowners to hunt on their massive properties. Mike and his guys keep the meat, and the town keeps its deer population manageable. HISTORY's new series captures the culture clash when the arrows begin to fly. http://youtu.be/LiRo_AdQwzY
  5. This is right on the money.. exxon mobile makes less than 8% profit on each gallon of gasoline and they are considered evil... yet the government takes 25% of each gallon and nobody bats an eye... the oil companies have the lowest margins of profit of all types of business and make their profits totally on volume.. and us, the people make up that volume without being coaxed or coerced in anyway by the oil companies... the people however do subsidize the oil companies...that money is primariy used for research to find new oil reserves buried under the earth... billions of dollars to find drill site that may or may not produce oil... finding oil is sometimes a crapshoot no matter how much research is done... the taxpayers and the oil companies bear all the risk of finding oil that makes its way to your gas pumps... yet our government finds it necessary to take a quarter of what doesn't belong to them... and maybe send it to our good friends in Pakistan or Egypt.
  6. I'm not sure but isn't gun trafficing already a federal crime?... or is it just a crime commited by the feds???
  7. I think liberals have a different definition of the term "common sense" than the rest of civilization.
  8. Read the comments on the facebook page... he is definitely not a popular guy.
  9. like Doc I just carry a cell phone... I don't ever remember getting a real injury in the woods... but I am more conscious of it now that I'm getting a bit older.
  10. You find it contrived and redundant yet I can always find you here coming back for more... you're buried in it as deep as the next guy. Nobody here is above the bullshit and we all know it.
  11. Just like when my kids were young.. it takes a while before things you say start to sink in. Especially when a new guy comes in and starts spouting stupid crap that others start believing. As for throwing gas on the fire.. I think that is why we all keep coming back for the same old debates... it's just too damn fun. You are as guitly as I am.
  12. Its funny how some of you start to get bored all of a sudden... just about the time you can no longer come up with a rational defense for your position on a topic and shortly after the name calling begins...
  13. Its not what I believe.. it is the way it is... tell me how the makeup of a crossbow kills any differently than a compound or a trad bow. it's still just an arrow that must hit a vital on the deer... that part doesn't change just because the crossbow is already drawn, has a scope, a stock or any other feature. Please tell me how it kills any differently so I can understand... easier doesn't always equate to better. At the end of the day its nothing more than an arrow propelled by a string just like any other bow.
  14. The ease of which you can shoot a crossbow does not change the way that it kills the animal.. and gives no more advantage than a compound has over a recurve or a longbow with its 80% let off. Aside from it's assault weapon like appearance and better ergonomics the crossbow performs the same in how it kills as every other bow on the market... with the kill range being not much different again than the comparison between compound and traditional equipment. If the criteria for not allowing a weapon into any season was it's ease of operation vs. other like weapons... inline muzzleloaders would have never made it into (or better yet, taken over) the "primitive" muzzloader season.
  15. I was a member in the 90's... the internal misuse of the groups funds was one of the reasons I left and I'm sure it had a lot to do with the quick drop off of some of the membership... I caught them in some wrong doings and confronted them about it... didn't seem to be of any concern to them...some of the corrupt officers back then are still at the top of the heap of the organization... I don't know and really don't care if the shananagins is still going on today, but, like you, I witnessed it first hand and will never be a member again because of it.
  16. If enough hunters feel that crossbows should be let into the archery season, the that's how it should be... it shouldn't be decided by 2000 bowhunters. Although I agree that NYB can be commended for keeping to its stance... if you believe in something that whole heartedly you should defend it... that at least shows a little moxy.
  17. Depending on stress levels and other factors bucks can keep antler well into April when the new growth will finally start pushing them off the pedicle.
  18. Aggessors? They have been the biggest aggressors.. they lobbyed against crossbows back in the 90's before there was much interest at all here in NY for the crossbow... they even make it part of their mission statement for the organization... NYB has been not getting along with much of the hunting community for sometime now... if they had their way bowhunting would be the only hunting in NY. They have a corrupt inner workings which much of the membership knows nothing about... which is the reason I have not been a member since the late 90's... back when I was fooled into believing they working in the best interest of the NY bowhunter... there is a reason why they only have a membership of 2000 out of 200,000 ny bow hunters.
  19. I agree.. I think there will always be a group of avid hunters with the passion to find a way to continue enjoying as we do... different states will have better access than others... so traveling out of state to hunt might be the option.
  20. .22 is a good starter ... cheap ammo... you'll want to shoot quite a bit when you first get your pistol, so cheap ammo is good. Plink with that for a bit while you look for something a little more substantial.
  21. Starting pistol leagues will raise money.. usually members shoot indoor ranges free with dues... guests pay range fee... get a bucket for brass to be sold later for scrap... use outdoor ranges for special shoots to raise money during the year... smaller, low dues clubs have to get really creative if you want to continue to have a lot to do at the club with such inexpensive dues... we do a winter muzzleloader league to raise about $400 bucks each year...
  22. I'm guessing many of us will be long gone before too much changes for us... the next generation of hunters though... only time will tell.
