I'd like to know who the "officials" were that gave them the info... be interesting to hear what they have to say now or if there really were any real officials. As for this being a hoax.. I find it hard to believe that kids could just disappear without parents being a tad bit concerned.. There would have to be hundreds of people involved to pull off something this horrible. Just don't think it's possible... lying about what gun was used yes.. but the entire thing a hoax... I doubt it. Points that raise questions about how things occured... again maybe possible.

Usually complaints by those that don't understand how or why it works... I agree it can be overwhelming sometimes, but believe it or not it serves it's purpose which is to generate more revenue for the cause... little to ask for all that they do in my opinion. -
Seven year old with loaded gun in Queens today.
nyantler replied to Sogaard's topic in General Chit Chat
This story can't be true... handguns are outlawed in NYC, plus there is a law that 7 year olds can't possess a firearm, and it's also against the law to bring a gun into the school as well as concealing it in a backpack... we all know that with these laws in place there is no way that any of this could have occured. unless I've been led to believe something that isn't true. Maybe there should be a bill passed that makes it illegal to ignore a law. These laws are so affective that it takes until your seventh birthday before being smart enough to obtain an outlawed firearm in a city with the strictest gun laws in the country. Without gun laws in NY can you imagine the 6 year olds that would be walking the streets with guns? Well it says that maybe his older brother put it in his backpack... that would make everything better. -

voting record for new gun bills

As much as this stuff is good to know.. I refuse to ever vote for an incumbant... so it won't make much difference in my voting for the future -
Go back to some of the NRA threads on this site and look at all the reasons guys have for not joining the NRA... you'll be the only one on those threads talking about the NRA's "hardline"... all the rest are worried about phone calls and if their magazine subscription got messed up... then are the first to bitch about the NRA not taking a stronger stand on some gun issue...

You first need to understand how much in donations some of that junk mail generates... and some times it's the cheap crap that entices people to join.. as irritating as it might be... it's all about marketing and generating money for the organization. -

Not to mention the NRA is funded entirely by it's membership... so it has limited resources based on the number of people supporting them. Apathetic gun owners that refuse to become members sit back on the sidelines waiting for the NRA to fight their battles for them wondering why they haven't done more.. never thinking that maybe the reason they can't do more is because they don't have the support of all gun owners... Yet the NRA still fights on behalf of even those gun owners that refuse to support them. -

Who wants Yearling Buck Protection with ARs in their area?
nyantler replied to Meat Hunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Yeah thats it... lol.. if the rules were made based on the loudest crying then you and doewhacker wouldn't have to worry about any AR's in NY... you'd win hands down. They don't have to cry they are doing their homework and coming to the table with real facts for the DEC to look at... not spouting nonsense about stuff they don't know about. Haven't seen you fellas doing much in the way of producing any hard evidence against it... except using statements used by the very DEC people that are quickly being swayed towards AR's.- 320 replies

nyantler replied to Meat Hunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I agree.. I think that is to be expected with only a 3 on a side rule which is minimal for some yearling buck protection... but really doesn't stretch the age classes much beyond 3.5... baby steps at this point... much higher restrictions would have to be in place to get a substantial number of very mature bucks which I think is not realistic in NY given current hunter interest in AR's.- 320 replies

Who wants Yearling Buck Protection with ARs in their area?
nyantler replied to Meat Hunter's topic in Deer Hunting
They aren't just pushing it.. they are working hand in hand with the DEC... so if the DEC position is so strong.. why are they bending?...They're bending because it's starting to make more sense to them.. you need to go on and read more of the DEC and Jeremy Hurst's latest articles.. You always fail to mention too that what Hurst said pertains to maintaining the health of the current herd which is not unhealthy... so in fact his statement is right on target... there is no imminent danger to NY's deer herd as it stands... the push for yearling buck protections goes beyond a mere herd that can get by.. it goes to the thinking that we should try to maintain optimal health if at all possible.. and optical herd health includes better age structure. I'm okay with either if thats what NY decides, but to make a claim that yearling buck protection - mandated or voluntary - has no benefit to a deer herd... you are absolutely wrong.- 320 replies

I mentioned hunters because thats what I was talking about was the hunters and why they say they don't like AR's... When I speak about AR's I only speak in terms of age structure.. you can go back and check any AR thread to see that... As for Jeremy Hurst's statement.. it means little compared to the statements of a biologist like Grant Woods who has spent his career studying whitetail herd biology... experienced hands on research beats anecdotal numbers any day in my book.- 320 replies

Who wants Yearling Buck Protection with ARs in their area?
nyantler replied to Meat Hunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Wrong again Steve.. for your information the biggest lobbies for the yearling buck protection are the QDMA and NYS Deer Management Coalition... they were instrumental in getting the AR's into the areas where they now exist in NY and are working directly with the DEC in doing so. They are also behind the current push for AR's in Central NY...Jeremy Hurst's comments were the least considered when looking at yearling buck protection in NY. You being the armchair informant with no real knowledge of the truth is what fuels the ignorance... also for the record the lead person heading up the push in NY for yearling buck protection which got the ball rolling in the AR WMU's is also the President of the NYS QDMA Chapter. Another example of feeding BS without knowing what the reality is... so the point you made many times on various threads... is the same misinformed point you made here and is truly the "complete nonsense".- 320 replies

The answer is Apathy and Ignorance.. the greatest killer of all things important in America... the same reason that only a third of the eligible voters make it to the polls to vote... the same reason that only a handful of members of any club usually do the work of the whole club. Its the human condition and not a good criteria for the effectiveness of the organization... and I bet you can't name another organization in America with 4.25 million members... as for being in the minority... seems to me like the trend as of late is that the minorities get what ever they want if they scream loud enough.. and I promise you .. the NRA and it's members will be screaming loud. -

Go back and read what I wrote then read your response and tell me how you got what you wrote from what I wrote. What does my quest ( or yours for that matter) have to do with yearling buck protection? Again you are looking at this from how it affects hunter and not how it affects the deer... this isn't about me agreeing or disagreeing with any hunters' reasoning for why they do what they do... I couldn't care less what other hunters do... this topic for me has nothing to do with how yearling buck protection affects the hunter.. I only look at it from the perspective of the deer and the benefit of the herd...my post has nothing to do with dictating what a trophy is... it was about hunter honesty or lack thereof... what I forgot to add is that it is not just those against AR's that are dishonest about their motives but also those for AR's... and the proof of that is in every post that spouts all the good trophy bucks that will be running around for "hunters to shoot" ... that is trophy management not yearling buck protection... as soon as the word "trophy" comes up when taking about protection of young bucks the conversation is over as far as I'm concerned because that person obviously doesn't know anything about the subject. I'm not entirely sure that even the DEC motivation for yearling buck protection has as much to do with the deer as it does with some other agenda... but regardless.. any protection of yearling bucks gives a leg up to establishing a better buck age structure.. which as far as I'm concerned is a good step towards better deer management in NY.- 320 replies

OMG HAZ HE TAKEN ALLZ UR GUNZ YET?!?!
nyantler replied to Sogaard's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Why does there need to be a separate background check done each time you make a purchase? Once you own a gun and have been checked it should be a no brainer after that... we all know that the information is on record once you have been checked once... so why not give out a card that says you are on the "good guy" list and all you have to do after that is show your card? If you commit a crime after being checked they will check if you are a gun owner anyway so they can revoke your card and you will be on the "bad guy" list... If they're going to start keeping track anyway, why not give the law abiding citizen a break so at least he doesn't have to go through all the BS for each purchase? The answer is because they care just as much about keeping track of the good guys as the bad guys. -

OMG HAZ HE TAKEN ALLZ UR GUNZ YET?!?!
nyantler replied to Sogaard's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I keep hearing about more "sensible" gun laws...How many do we need? 45,000 isn't enough? Or maybe we have to keep trying until they actual work to reduce crime... nothing we do in the way of laws will reduce gun violence by criminals... it's been proven time and time again in the U.S... What is it that some just can't seem to understand? There is nothing sensible about the liberal approach to reducing gun violence... it's a notion that makes some of you feel good, yet does nothing to curb the violence... it makes as much sense as passing out "assault weapons" to drug cartels in Mexico or blaming a YouTube video for the death of 4 Americans in Bengazi... gun owners should take the same approach with new "sensible" gun laws as our current administration took after those two debacles and push them aside as if they didn't happen. -
That's one hell of a good 8-point!!!

nyantler replied to Meat Hunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I understand... I was just making a point about the hunters I know that don't like the idea of AR's because they feel they pay a lot of money for a license and should be able to shoot any deer they like... with the added " I don't care about antlers anyway." Yet, they shell out thousands of dollars to hunt big antlered deer in other states. It's all BS.. we all know it's BS, they know it's BS.. why don't hunters just come out and say that they hate the idea of not being able to tell their buddies "I got a buck this year!" .. like somehow not getting a buck makes you less of a hunter... if getting a buck every year is the criteria for being a hunter... then we have a low number of hunters in NY. I understand that there will always be resistance to AR's.. but I think that the reasons guys give are BS... and they aren't really telling the real reason why they want to kill yearling bucks.. which is because they can't stand the thought of having to tell their buddies that they didn't get a buck. If they say they don't like killing big antlered bucks they are just flat out lying. Usually the ones that can't kill bigger bucks are the ones that say they don't like big antlers. I wish hunters would just be honest. I agree that AR's are the least of our problems!!- 320 replies

Who wants Yearling Buck Protection with ARs in their area?
nyantler replied to Meat Hunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I know a large number of hunters that are against yearling buck protection here in NY... and more that are for it, but have too ichy a trigger finger and have admitted that without an antler restriction they will have a hard time passing on a small buck on their own.. especially as the season gets near the end... many, if not all, of those hunters have spent 1000's of dollars seaking out states that have those restrictions... in hopes of taking that "buck of a lifetime" that they can't seem to find in NY... and their argument against restrictions here is that they pay a lot for a license and should be able to take the deer of their choice... What???- 320 replies

What hunters fail to realize is that it isn't about them it's about the deer... but somehow it always seems to come back to "How does yearling buck protection affect me?"... Never how it affects the deer. It's almost like nobody is paying attention.- 320 replies
