Depends how far I'm driving. Usually go on Friday. Catskills area, 4am gets me thru city before rush hour starts.. Western NY & Adks, I like 2 am starts to burn some highway..

Well, with our weekend warriors, quite a few birds demonstrated excellent flying ability, soaring clear to fields far away.. The handler/dog situation I think is who's there that day.. I think our guy was 'Charlie' I think they'll let you run your own dog, but just call & check.. Melly, you give literal meaning to 'picking up dinner'.. Plus, no pellets to chip teeth.. I hope your husband appreciates your though-fullness.. ;D

Nice Vid! Be cool to run the clip on a dig pic frame under him mounted.. I never saw one in the woods either, but I was 'stalked' by a feral cat, if that counts.. 8)

Yikes! Hide your goats! ;D ;D

I saw 2 chasing each other last year by Peekamoose. Watched them, for 30 minutes.. They're only trapable, no hunting.. DEC has a fisher sighting report ongoing. Send them an email on where & when you see fishers.

Great idea 8) "Fire ants are living creatures with feelings too!"

Slug Guns - What do you shoot? What works best?
NYDeer replied to ELMER J. FUDD's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Nice Shooting!! That second 100 Yard group would be a contender in the monthly ASSA mail in contests.. Check them out here if interested.. http://www.slugshooting.com/ -
Bear Crack--http://www.eastmans.com/cameron/2006/05/bear-crack-the-recipe/ I'd mix this stuff up divide into several soup cans as Culvert suggested, then cover with individual can lids you can get at the grocery. Now you have a seasons supply of bear boils ready.. Good Luck

When DEC relocates problem bears, I believe they get tagged.. Easily explains why it wasn't too effected by your presence..
-
Why wouldnt you get the tree you want? If someones in it, I cant see them letting you sit at the base! Seems like alot to carry for a seat, why not just grab a $10 green sports fold up chair somewhere?? A friend swears by his, covered the legs in camo duct tape..

I wear it on my jacket, until.. I put on a backpack, then I put it high on the pack so anyone behind me can see it. If I'm toting the climbing stand, I use the bungees & strap the backpack with tag onto the climber, so you can still see the backtag from afar.. I think it's ridiculous we should even need it.. I have my hunt lisc in my pocket if there is some issue. It should be required to be left on the hunt vehicle's dashboard if anything.. LEO's will find vehicles way before finding a person in the woods..

Last year, the 'animal nutjobs' showed up opening day by Peekamoose / West Shokan.. Had pots/pans, dogs running though the woods, whole shebang.. Hunters in the area called state police & they rounded then up & started writing summonses.. we were over the mountain top, didn't hear anything. Only found out from another hunter waiting for his partner still in the woods..

LOL.. Wolf, what wolf?? Where's the wolf? AHHHHH!! When you deal with the general public, you will encounter those you don't care for, and carry on.. Same here DP. Stick around, it's a good forum.. Welcome to Huntinny.com

Welcome aboard Glenn. As others have said, THANK YOU and your fellow servicemen for protecting & fighting for the freedoms we so often take for granted back here in the states. Give a shout out, as biggamefish suggested, for anything we could do for you guys over there..
-
Welcome aboard FP.. Keep on hunting! Nobody wants to hear bragging about hitting full board bingo at the senior center.. Putting game on the table makes great stories in my book & hope you'll share some of yours with us.. Have a safe season & many more.

Welcome to the site! Your 'fear' of public land rings loud & clear to me.. A couple years ago, I went up to Urbana Forest in Steuben County for opener.. There is a reason they put so much deer to the dirt! Sounded like WWIII was kicking off!! I posted by a large tree the whole day, and walked out to the truck after dark.. Broke camp & high tailed it back to the Catskills! Hope you can find some 'safer' hunting spots this year..

Welcome George. Congrats of the Buck.

How often do you sight in your slug gun ?
NYDeer replied to fasteddie's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I re-sight it if I take a tumble, or notice some heavy markings on it I don't remember making.. and the other time is, when I change ammo.. There is a device for sale for reloading slug shells for those interested/'thrifty' shooters .. http://www.slugshooting.com/id32.html -
Olin calls workers' bluff: Ammo plant to Mississippi

Printing outfit a bud worked at did this.. When the union forced a vote & got in, they closed that department & moved operations to NJ!! They brought them back to NY a few years ago, but it was enough to can any union votes in the other printing divisions.. I'm union and think in some circumstances they're needed, but in others, can really make life difficult..
