  1. Congratulations! Makes for great memories, even they probably don’t realize it yet. Enjoy the moment.
  2. Good educators are in great demand. I spent 33 years teaching Sciences, mostly Chemistry and Environmental Science here in the Finger Lakes. The best advice I could give would be to commit yourself to at least six years. The first 3-5 can be pretty tough and require a commitment of time unlike most professions. It does get better, remember that. Second bit of advice, be involved in activities outside of the classroom. Coaching, leading clubs or arts programs all help form a better connection with the students and community. You’ll enjoy it as much as they enjoy having you helping them. Last thing, (I could go on a long time here) is to limit your social media connections to students and parents and administrators as much as possible. You’re just opening yourself up to a whole lot of problems if you don’t. I always preferred working in a smaller school/ community as it fits my personality, but that’s just a personal preference. Best of luck in your future . It’s gonna be a great adventure!
  3. Spent Monday out on Lake Ontario with Hooked Up Charters. Rough and windy and cold but still a blast. Spent yesterday smoking the catch (at least most of it) and, wow! Did it turn out great! Lake trout, Browns and Chinook salmon.

    Beer

Happy hour on the deck with The Surge DDH. Citrus hop flavor and smooth. Done with yard work amidst the sprinkles. The sun came out and my wife brought beer out to the deck. Who am I to argue?

Beer and hoops. Ellicotville Pale Ale. A bit hoppy and a bit earthy. Very nice. Go Zags!

Great day! A hike in the hills above Hemlock Lake with my wife, split a face cord of wood and stacked. Now sitting on tha deck with a new NE IPA I picked up last week while visiting friends in Syracuse. Full Boar Brewing. Lots of nice beers and this Frickin Wicked is my favorite.
  7. .......and life goes on. Except it will never be the same for you two. Enjoy the journey!
  8. Posted this in the Chuckle section but I figured it fit well here also.
  9. Just saw this and didn’t see any reply to it so I thought I’d add my two cents. This is an oak gall. A type of wasp lays an egg and a chemical secreted causes the tree to form this. The larva will chew its way out next year and turn into an adult.
  10. Web mans is now vaccinating all 60 and up. Got online at 11:35 and got an appt for tomorrow in Geneseo.
  11. My workshop project today was a burnt wood American flag. Came out pretty nice after I finally gave up on making the star field myself. I tried carving the stars with a dremel tool and I tried carving them with a chisel. Both methods worked but did not turn out as nicely as I wanted. Definitely a lack of skill on my part. Plus, very time intensive. So I took to the interwebs and found a company that machines the star field and it really looks nice. It will be going up on the front of my barn after a poly coating.
  12. I’m getting everything ready for planting. Seeds, seed trays, starter soil and potting soil. I even got a grow light setup as a gift from the in laws this year. I’m about a month away from starting the seeds here in my part of the state. I’m looking at building a small greenhouse for future use and my wife is approving as it will get all the planting out of the sunroom in the house.

Wow! A good day. Spent a couple of hours at Bullzeye Archery out in Bloomfield today shooting crossbows and came home with an Excalibur Assassin 400TD. After dropping a dime on that I jumped across the road and made a stop at Other Half to pick up a few 4-packs. Celebrating the purchase with a DDH Double Mosaic Dream. Great combo. Beer and bows.

Hoppy hour at home. Having a Saranac Brewing IPA and making some venison sausage meatloaf stuffed with mashed potatoes. A good start to an evening at home.
  15. It can be very painful and limiting. I did find that the cortisone shot helped immensely, along with physical therapy. It can take a long time to heal but the good news is that it can be completely healed. Good luck.
  16. My girlfriend Sally loves plopping down in the snow. I think it helps with her painful joints. It was 2 degrees and she stayed there over an hour.

Watching golf from sunny and warm San Diego (the golf, not me) and enjoying a Nocturnal Rainbows Black IPA. Tasty beer! Roasted dark flavor and a hop bite. Perfect for the time of year.
  18. Stick your arm out straight to your side, parallel to the ground. Have someone or something hold out at your hand while you push up. Feel pain? That’s a good indication that it’s the rotator cuff. Go see a PT and they will be able to diagnose and provide a treatment plan that may help put off surgery. I’ve had rotator cuff done on both shoulders along with nerve impingement surgery on one and reattaching the bicep muscle on the other. Yep, a train wreck. But, the PT work pays off and I’m still shooting the compound bow at 63. Can’t pull as much poundage or hold as long as I used to but it still works for me. I did buy a crossbow this past year and had the unfortunate experience of destroying it the first time I shot at a deer but that’s a different story. Good luck with your shoulder. Getting old can be a challenge but, as they say, it beats the alternative.
  19. No one could ask for a better tribute. Loss hurts but faith shows us that we all have the opportunity for love eternal. God bless you and your family. Grief is temporary, love is everlasting. Peace, my friend.

Go Bills! Nothing more to be said. Rising Storm The World is Yours IPA.

    Beer

For today’s football games, a seasonal favorite. Old Man Winter by Southern Tier. After a day of outdoor work I’m wanting something with some real flavor to it. Perfect.

    Beer

My wife made celebratory cookies and I tried a new beer. God awful. Trail Haze by Sixpoint. Supposed to be a hazy IPA at 4.0% ABV and 99 calories. Tastes like hoppy water. Bad hops. Guess I’ll eat some cookies and go see what other beers are in the fridge.
  23. Pulled venison tacos for halftime. Go Bills!
