I will be using the bow this year. Opening day, will be the 12GA, but I plan to mix it up a bit. I would love to get one with the bow and one with the shotgun. That's the goal.

I have had a few misfires, to date, only with .22 ammo. I only one hang fire from a Remington 7400 BDL Deluxe in .30-06 that I got from an auction when I was 21/22 . Bought it, dropped some glass on it and had it bore sighted ( I don't remember what the scope was ), and hit the range. First shot fired. Second "click", lifted my head and "Boom". Took the mag out. Gathered myself, and headed to my local gunsmith. More money to fix then I paid at auction, and actually got more for trade in then I paid at auction. I really wish I had pics, but over 20 years ago we didn't take pics of every thing we did. I just hope people realize there's a big difference from a "Mis-Fire" and a "Hang-Fire".

I just checked my pack. TP - check Bino's - check Ammo - check Head lamp ( fresh batteries ) - check Zip Ties - check Calls - check Pens - check Small length of rope - check Face Mask - check Gloves - check Bug Spray - check Tags - check ( will put my release and arm guard in and swap out ammo for different days depending what I hunt with on given day, but opening morning it will be the 12GA ) Other items: Mini Folding Chair - check ( almost always in the truck anyway ) Blind - no check | opting for a length of camo burlap instead But, I usually don't carry my pack. I fit things into pockets. But with the really warm temps I may have to carry the pack as I loose pocket space not wearing my coat. I have some WEB Gear and a TAC vest I used for hiking years ago, but can't seem to find either. Must be in the shed, I will look on Sunday. It's almost go time!

When I was young, my mom used a milk and mayo recipe, and for crunchiness she used mashed up corn flake cereal in the flour. It was always cooked in a cast iron skillet. We didn't have it very often, and it was always drums. I tell you what, that had some crunch! When she did finally get a deep fryer, is was for making homemade dough nuts. Funny, thinking back, I was about 12 when she got that fryer. Never had fried chicken again after that. Well, not made at home anyway. There are tons of recipes out there for food. I rarely use a recipe! This was something I wanted to try. Next time, I think I will try and remember my moms recipe and give that a whirl.

Bionic, I would hit YouTube with a bushcraft search. Some of them have websites with forums. You could just do a web search, but you may find sites that think back country camping means you have to walk 100 feet from your car to your site and the toilet is an out house, but still have showers. I was rereading this and realized I forgot to mention Smoking Meat Forums. I love that site. Spent some reading through it and learned a lot. Only have a few posts over there, but I only just started using a smoker last Fall.

I am not sure about the hunters up north, downstate, what people consider the SZ, or in WNY, but the first few days in my area are looking to be hot. Opening day, 73, Wednesday 84, and Thursday 79. Who knows though really, weather forecasters haven't been on a roll lately. Hell. even a busted clock gets a time right twice a day. So what's your weather looking like for opening day?

I set the oil at appx 365, same I use for wings and normal deep frying chicken. Like I posted in the other thread, it came out really good. The dark color isn't from over frying, it was the spices I used. The flour itself was really dark reddish in color once it dried onto the chicken. Next time I will try talking the temp down a bit and see how it goes. Though, I don't see me using the fryer much now that it's grilling and smoking season.

Look into Total Wireless, they are a sub if Verizon and use the same towers and signal. I think a single phone prepaid plan starts at $35 a month with unlimited talk and text/pic sending, and something like 5 gigs of data per month. I'll have to check what our plan has for two phones, it's like $63 with taxes and fees per month with 15 gigs of shared data. We have been using them for almost three years and no serious complaints so far. Sent from my SM-S327VL using Tapatalk

Actually. I am bowing out on this topic/thread. The divisions are never going away. Wolc tagged a certain part of my post, but had nothing to say about the rest.

That's all you took away from my post? Seriously? Best of luck to you on "Judgment Day".

I had hopes for this kid. I hope he can stay healthy. Awesome receiver when not in IR list. Seems like every time he breaks a nail he's out for weeks.

You do know I was joking right?

I do not have any alerts to any site that go to my phone if that's what you are referring too. I have alerts set on the site itself to show up, and I certainly didn't get a reply via the PM. It doesn't matter to be honest. There are some awesome people on here, who help each other out. I gave a nice air rifle and scope to a guy for his grand kids, Jeremy K sent me a bow at no cost ( the bow didn't fit me so I passed it on for free to greg54 ), turkeyfeathers sent me a Bills glass as a house warming gift, I even offered to send Bill Schmidt a tent if he covered the shipping. When you ask for advice on here, you generally get help. Many other members have helped each other out as well, by just giving things away, there are honestly too many to list. For all our differences of opinions, we are a brotherhood. If you need help and someone can help you out, they will and do. You talk about God and religion all the time. God teaches us to help those in need, In the almost 4 years I have been on this site, I haven't seen you offer much. What's my point? Not all of us will agree on every aspect of hunting! If we did this site would be more like a book reading then the soap opera it is ( FYI! That's not a crack at the site ). I really don't like the segregation, but I am coming to terms with it. We are all different and have different reasons to why we hunt, what we hunt, and what weapon we choose to hunt with. Without this banter, again, go to a book reading. Final thought: We all like a good debate, but this crap of trashing people because they don't do what you want or how you want it is BS. wolc, you are no different. You have this push for the crossbow that's starting to rival another ex-members agenda about Dove hunting. When you keep stuffing things in peoples faces they turn and just get sick of it. Best of luck with your "Polls". Just remember, they are more fore "personal gratification" then getting the DEC to alter the laws.

I am not a big caller. I will make a call, then wait and listen. If I don't hear anything I don't start hammering on the slate. When I hunt private land I might call a tad more then usual ( a few an hour to locate and try to move closer/cut them off ), but not on public land. I tend to sit still and call maybe every 30 minutes on public land, or longer. Again, the advice is appreciated.

Use the Mathews! You're going to love spring turkey hunting! Hunt the morning, fish or play golf in the afternoon!

That's a salad bowl with some shrimp added, not a taco. LOL.

Skin was crispy, meat was juicy. Stable temp for the oil in a deep fryer for this type of chicken is 350-375 for 17 minutes. The skin looks dark due to the spices I used. A lot of paprika, chili powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and some sriracha seasoning, all red, making the coating dark. Then the light, garlic, onion powder, cracked black pepper, and sea salt.
-
Posted the finished results in the what's for dinner thread. It was a bit crispier, but had no better flavor then my normal coating. was fun to test this out, and I may try some variations.

Now that right there is funny!

I guess my dream of buying a white panel van and turn it into a mini camper for hunting is out. I guess adding some camo accents would really be over the top.

Good point, perhaps you didn't even release the arrow? Who knows, still loved that pic! As for the nock, wow! If that's not lighted please tell me what brand you use. If not lighted that sure is bright. I would like to see if I can get them for my arrows.

Another poll? [emoji19] Wolc, I sent you a pm on how create polls here. After three days of crickets I deleted the pm as I figured you ignored it. Or worse, you read it and didn't have the common courtesy to say thank you. I am not sure where your extreme fascination with polls comes from, but all they do is cause issues and resolve nothing! If you like, I will send you the PM again, and you can become a poll creating mad man. If I send it this time don't ignore it. Sent from my SM-S327VL using Tapatalk

Not giving up, my plan B isn't so good though. Will try the calls mentioned, and hope a tom gets curious and brave. Thank you all for the insight, it's appreciated very much. Sent from my SM-S327VL using Tapatalk
