Um, so about that last pic. How do you stay in that stand? It's upside down. Nice find on the skull.

I honestly never paid much attention to thermals. "Keep the wind in my face" and "know wind direction- set up accordingly" was my way of thinking. Not just me, I think many people still go by those two theories. But, after reading so much about thermals on here, I decided to do some reading up on the topic. From what I read it started making more and more sense, and decided to play the thermals a bit more this season to try and increase my odds a little. If you look around you can find a ton of information. From the basic, to some more highly scientific data. Here's where I started my reading from last Spring, you can use this or take things as far as you feel the need to in your researching ( make sure to read his follow up article as well ): https://www.qdma.com/beat-bucks-nose-remember-thermals/

I want my tent-deer-camping trip, to work out. But, having a two-season single wall dome tent with the roof all screen is making it hard to figure out how to deal with temps in the low 40's at night. Condensation will make things difficult. You get damp in those temps, you will stay damp and cold at night.

Thank you for the feedback. Not shooting 125's myself anymore. I did for the hell of it, assemble one of my XLL 125's and took a shot at appx 20 yds. I was almost 6 inches low. But, I am getting off topic... I see people talking about "knock-off's", and the brands the TV shows use, so I was just curious if people still use Wasp ( you don't hear about them much anymore ), and in particular, one specific broadhead. Looking for info on the Sharpshooter in 100gr.
-
Anyone on here use Wasp broadheads? I still have a 6-pack of old Hi-Tech XLL 125's I bought around 1991, or close there of. I think these are now the Hammers, similar design. Wondering if anyone has used the Sharpshooter cut-on-contact broadheads in 100gr, and how they performed?

I don't think I did any web or cook book based method. I was up until around 5AM looking how to season the smoker, and then smoke the ribs. When you look at the WWW about this stuff, it can become mind boggling. Most of the smoker techniques are for bucket/grill smokers using indirect heat, or offset smokers. Most of the information for in-line water smokers was all over the place. One would say do this, another would say do that. I just used my knowledge of cooking low and slow over campfire coals. If I had followed the webs instructions, I would have burnt the ribs. I will be 100% honest, I expected to f^%$ this up. I didn't.

Been having issues with TT and the web based site for about a week now. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk

So, for dinner is smoked St.ouis style ribs. First time using a smoker. Came out awesome! Not quite fall off the bone, but tender as all hell, and just enough crust. Nice smoke ring to boot. Have some bacon and onion baked beans to heat up on the side in a minute here. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk

Learned quite a bit today as a rookie smoker. Learned the www isn't your best friend when it comes to smoking. Great info, but not all smokers are created equal. See what's for dinner thread. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk

Picked this up at Walmart earlier today on clearance for$50. Charcoal water smoker. Got some hickory, apple, cherry, and mesquite chips. Will season it in the morning and then smoke 2 racks of St. Louis ribs. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk

I'm ready. The camp might not work out for the NZ. But...... I have alternatives! Weather for close to home looks promising temps will drop out form those 80's/90's to mid 60's. for opening day. Humidity level will drop. The heat we have going on is the long distance effects of Hurricane Jose. He will be out of the picture starting Tuesday night. Humidity here has already started dropping. OK. I will try to explain. When I read the term "Buck State", I think of states like MN ( just as an example ) where you can't kill a female of the species, and has antler restrictions for the males. So, the thought that springs to mind for me is, if NY became a "buck state", you could only shoot male whitetails, and no spikes or button bucks. So, without keeping the female numbers in check, they could get over populated, and some areas where there is already a dense population of does, especially urban areas, there could be issues. I don't recall saying "over-run". I said "Over Populated". Not the exact same thing.

DING-DING-DING on the first sentence. Agree about the deer only hunters who drop the whopping $22 ( maybe $32 with DMP's ). The last part, not sure about that. I can see NYS trying to pull that off for a season or two. Buck only min-6 pnts on one side........ After a season or two, the does would be so over populated they would be giving DPM's away by the truck load. JMO. But looking at the way does are managed I can see it. As you said, no pleasing everyone.

But....But....Some don't like how long the bow season is now. How would that resolve anything. LOL Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk

I can understand this somewhat. But, if you work in a factory or have a job with shift work, you would have guys fighting for vacation time, as the company isn't shutting down so employees can hunt.I changed the way I hunt last year. If I have a doe in the freezer, I wouldn't kill any buck less then a 6pt. If not, and a decent 4pt gives me a shot in range, he's not getting a pass. But no spikes, and I would never kill a button buck just to have meat. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk

I'm in, will wear cargo shorts on the front 9 and jorts on the back 9. But, I am not wearing any Yankee's crap!!!!!!!! I have 4 pairs of shorts, 3 cargo ( woodland camo-urban camo-black ), and a pair of painters style jorts. The fashion police mean nothing me. Here Biz, new hunting clothes for ya. Because anything less would be uncivilized; https://www.tuxedosonline.com/camouflage-mossy-oak-prom-or-wedding-tuxedo.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsazd5Ye51gIVxV6GCh1fMAY9EAQYBCABEgLA7fD_BwE#92=622&133=81

I thought Middle Grove was smaller then 500, I was wrong. I know there are a few patches of state land scattered here and there with no names so to speak, that aren't very big. Anyway......... My actual point is, there are people now who say the public land they hunt is crowded. Make the gun season three days and it will get worse, because those hunters who wait to hunt until the "unload at will" hunters are gone, will now be hunting the only three days they have to hunt. This is just MPO, but I think the hunting accident rate might rise a little as well, it would seem inevitable. There's a lot more to debating how long or short the seasons should be then just deer management.

Yes, I also have about 200 acres of private land to hunt in the lower Dacks. That's now an hour and 1/2 away. I wasn't referring to myself as an example. But, Louise Kier is less then 100 acres, and has two very small parking areas, one is for maybe two vehicles, the other maybe 4. When you see 10-15 vehicles crammed into those two areas that's a little more people hunting during the gun season in 100 acres then I feel comfortable with. As I am sure a few others feel the same way. There are also a couple smaller areas ( will look up the names ) that I am aware of. Those areas get hit pretty hard as well.

What's wrong with cargo shorts? I wear them. Especially hiking or camping. Extra pockets are always good. I'll stop wearing cargo shorts when I stop seeing people my age ( 46 ) wearing their pants/shorts hanging off their a$$! If you want to really be cool and show people your undies, just wear them on the outside!

My Dream gun.......
DirtTime replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Beautiful rifle and great chambering round. Should kill many deer for many many years. Browning fan myself. My "DREAM" guns.......... I have one, but want it's big sister. Actually I have three I would love to put in the safe. Smith & Wesson M&P 10 Chambered in .308 Browning X-Bolt Medallion Chambered in .270 Browning BPS Deer Hunter ( wish they made it in 20GA though ) -
3 day gun season might work for hunters with private land, but those who have only public land might suffer. Wouldn't be able to wait out the 40 people who show up to that tiny 100 acre area. Agree with Buckmaster on this, leave things the way they are. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
