  1. Been sick since early Monday morning, started to feel a little better today, but didn't go out. I should have! The next few days weather is looking like crap. People saying snow, but, weather here is saying sleet and rain. Would love a little snow, but they can keep the sleet!
  2. Congrats on the bird TF. Just goes to show, anything can happen while hunting.
  3. Sad to read this, I thank him for his service and thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.
  4. First day felt like actually cooking this week. Fried smoked sausage, fried potatoes+green onions+mushrooms, topped with the green onion tops, homemade honey mustard sauce, steamed corn, and brussels sprouts fried in EVO with cracked black pepper and garlic powder.
  5. I agree somewhat that access to private land is harder to come by, but, there are thousands and thousands of acres of public land very accessible to hunters. I think the decrease in hunters depends on what part of the state you are in. The other is loss of interest in the outdoors over all. Fewer and fewer people camp. hunt, or fish. Hiking is huge these days, as well as mountain biking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. I also put a blame on social media. Sorry, I have said this before, it's very hard to get the younger generations involved in anything that might take their attention away from cell phones and other devices.
  6. Wish I had known, I would have gone and brought the old lady with me. As a brand new hunter, this would have been good for her to attend. Glad it was a success, if you do one at RC please let us know.
  7. I get that. But, many don't get what hunting is really about. You should still stay true to the heritage. I am not trying to argue, but as a hunter, I still try to hold true to the reason I hunt. For food, not a rack.
  8. Ya know, the problem with threads like this, and the dumb ass that spewed his BS in another thread, is people forget the true heritage of hunting and being a hunter. It wasn't about the biggest rack or the score. It was about feeding your family! You killed game to put food on the table. What would you do if there were no grocery stores? To pass judgment on someone who kills wild game for food and not the score the animal gets is kind of....Well,,,,Stupid!
  9. I do not go on private land, posted or not, unless I have permission. No worries there.
  10. Biz, you just ruined yours, mine, and turkeyfeathers chances of hunting growies land. Thanks 'bro'. Don't you have a vacation to some beach you could be on. LOL You got that right growie. I saw three sasquatch, a werewolf, a three tongued dragon and no deer hunting this morning. Even if I did have pics, no one would believe me.
  11. Tape measure and surveyors tape to mark the yardage.
  12. Site is acting wonky again. But, remember, the owner is actually a hunter and hunting. So it might take some time before all the little tech issues are dealt with.
  13. This is why I rarely use my phone to surf the web while hunting. You never know when a deer will show up. Also, not sure if I was on my phone, I would take the time to type "hearing twigs snap gotta go". LOL
  14. Just wanted to let folks know that just because it's yote, turkey and other seasons, if you are bow hunting for deer, you cannot possess a firearm.
  15. I have heard some duesies around here since moving. The best one to date was someone telling me they didn't own their own land. LOL I am always polite and thank them for their time.
  16. Left over pizza and jalapeño poppers, and I made a batch of hot wings.
  17. I go dressed in my Sunday best they might think I am a Democrat and beat me senseless. LOL Started noticing deer movement right down the road from me recently, figure it can't hurt to ask. Really trying to find that spot I can walk to from my front door.
  18. That's not 100% correct. If you are bow hunting you are not allowed to possess a firearm of any sort. According to the DEC that is.
  19. Just wandering what peoples thoughts are on asking permission to hunt private land this far into the season.
  20. Only as old as you feel growie. You do more in a day then most people in their 20's. Hell, more then most people in mid 40's like myself.
  21. I prefer a good book, chess or poker, but to each their own I guess.
  22. If I have a tag for it, and it walks in front of me in range, it's going to the processor. I am not aiming my hunting at a fawn, but, I am getting to the point where not much will get a pass anymore. I have let does pass this season because they had fawns with them. I am not a rack hunter, I can't eat the rack. I hunt for the meat. Last season I let a pretty nice spike get a pass early in the NZ regular season, I regretted it ever since as I didn't see another buck that gave me a safe shot Hunt the way you want, shoot what you want, and enjoy the sport as long as it's legal and you keep it safe.
