  1. Why are people starting to wig out? It's only been three weeks. The full blown rut is still on the horizon. Patience is a hunters best friend. Just keep hunting and get out as often as you can. But, if you really want the number of a witch doctor, I can hook you up. The down side is, they ask for a sacrifice of three hundred chickens to Charon per deer. Might be cheaper to book a guided hunt.
  2. Lets see some factual stats in the states where 'people' "claim" full inclusion of the crossbow ruined the archery season. Opinions are like butt holes, everyone has one, doesn't mean one smells any better then the next.
  3. We have a lot of time left. Never over until it's over. Don't start looking up recipes for tag soup just yet. You guys will drop a deer or two before it's all said and done.
  4. Thank you for bringing us along on your adventure Robin. It's not always about the kill, it can be about just being in the woods and enjoying nature.
  5. Yeah, pretty sure last year didn't have any for any part of 4 either. I do not believe you have to pay. I thinks it's inclusive in the lifetime you already paid for.
  6. No sense in me trying, my WMU's aren't on the list.
  7. Rifle, bolt all the way. Shotgun, flat out tie between semi-auto and pump. Been toying with the idea of a single barrel shotgun for deer, or maybe even a bolt.
  8. Glassware was due to it was our annual Halloween horror movie party. Not breaking out the good stuff for people to break. Not to mention, if I used my Bills glass, with two Giants fans here, and a Cowboys fan....... Might have gotten ugly.
  9. No deer seen this morning. Hit another state land to check it out for the gun season with the g/f. No scrapes, and only a few rubs, and the rubs are old. As for the owls, I think they will eat anything they feel they can kill. As for candy, no kids, but we bought a huge bag to pass out, and only had about 20 kids knock on the door, so I have well over 100 mini candy bars left.
  10. I was thinking the other night, about all the guns I have shot, it's a pale comparison to most people on here. I now you can get books, the web helps a lot also. Tries to recall the different guns I have owned or shot. Shot guns; 10 12 16 20 410 Rifles; 22 short and long .222 .223 22-250 .308 30-30 7mm mag .30-06 .270 35 Rem 44mag 300WinMag 7mm-08 .25-06 It's pretty cool reading about all the other ( and there are tons ) calibers people on here shoot.
  11. Last nights beer. Buddy started brewing his own, this was the first batch. A German Octoberfest. It was actually pretty dang good, hoppy and malty without any silly pumpkin flavor.
  12. I picked a bad spot. The pic is the right side of where I was sitting this afternoon. Fork horn walked right past me at about 10 feet. No way to get a shot, even if I could have drawn the bow, no way to shoot through the branches.
  13. Here's a question. How is it that so many people on here know so much about every caliber/round ever created? No, this isn't trolling. I am curious how so many people have shot every caliber/round ever made. If you own all those guns in every caliber, you would need a safe almost the size of a football field. Or, if you have just shot them because friends have them you would have to have appx 2000 friends owning varying calibers.
  14. There are other ways to cure 'deer fever'. Use a single shot, or only load one round in the chamber and keep the mag/tube empty.
  15. I did do a little research, and I already knew if I want one, it will be used. I wish I knew why that round popped into my head so fast. It may end up being one of those "I want it, I will wait until I find a good one" things. But, nothing wrong with asking questions and getting info.
  16. I guess there is a reason to the question. The other day I was looking at my guns and thought, my shotgun has a synth stock, both of my deer rifles have a synth stock, and of course the M&P has a synth stock. I want to put something with a wood stock in there. For some reason, first thing that popped into my head was a bolt action 35 Whelen.
  17. To the original question, not even a thought, even hypothetically. Heart lung area for me.
  18. Was just curious how much difference there is. Basically comparing a macintosh to a golden delicious?
  19. OK. So how would this be calculated? Seeing not everyone actually reports the deer they kill ( some don't even bother buying tags ). I think perhaps breaking it down into what areas of the state seem to produce bigger bucks, not by county. Areas with agriculture, corn, soy beans, alfalfa, etc. will produce larger deer as opposed to the smack dab middle of the ADK mountains where they feed on berries, scrub brush and tree bark. So, if you really break it down by county, look at the counties with a good agricultural areas. Those should, for all piratical purposes, produce the bigger dear.
  20. OK hot shot! Hows your season going? Been out? Trying to make a point that all the arguments that people keep bringing up in here don't belong. Sorry you don't feel the same way.
  21. I asked something like this a few months ago. I will not buy an electric, to many reviews of ( as said ) not getting a true 'smoked' flavor. I have used my propane grill to smoke a few things, a beef roast, some chicken, and even some pork chops. It was a process, but, worth it as I did get to maintain the true flavor. I used a couple tin pans from the dollar store to cook the meat and to hold the wood. Don't even remember what wood chips I bought. I did learn one thing, make sure you turn off the grill when you are done. When I did the beef roast, I forgot to turn off the grill. 4 hours later, the g/f took the dog out and notices a blue flame coming from the grill. She turned it off. She still busts my chops about that one. I have not tried ribs yet to smoke on propane. But, seeing when I do ribs fully on even the propane, they are done low and slow on the indirect heat side of the grill. Next Spring/Summer I am going to try using a tin pan with some cherry wood chips over the low burning side of the grill.
  22. Not to be a jerk, but not a conversation for live from the woods. It's bow season and gun/ML in the NZ. Go hunt!
  23. Best wishes on the surgery and a speedy recovery.
  24. Turns out my best friends brother who is also a NYST knew him. Sent along my condolences.
