  1. Back home, after rain started around 11. Saw a 2 year old 8pt on opposite side of the brush below me, head into the bedding area, around 9:30. He wasn't in there long until he pushed out three doe's. They ran out where he came in. He followed shortly after, slightly higher. All headed back in the original direction the buck came from. I tried grunting to him, and also the bleat can. To no avail. He never even looked my way. Back out again tomorrow!
  2. Wind is howling above me on this ridge. Bedding area beyond the fallen trees. This is where they "should" be? I'm in till the rain comes.
  3. Wishing your daughter and her team good luck!!! I love an underdog! Go get em girls!!!! Have fun with the SENY GTG!! Some great guys down there!
  4. I'm getting ready to head up to the farm. Rain, and some flurries coming in later this morning. But I hope to catch one near bedding, on a south facing oak ridge, before that arrives. Some nice bucks have been seen cruising the last few days. Hopefully I can get one in close enough? We'll see? Monday will be the end of my bow season. Trying hard to make something happen! Good luck to all hunting today! Congratulations to all the successful hunters!
  5. On the 10th I saw two different mature bucks roaming during mid day in 4-H. My hunting partner and his daughter saw three different bucks chasing doe last evening. Seems as of last evening, the chasing phase of the rut is going full swing in the hilltowns of Albany county. Been a very different year as far as deer movement for us. They are not anywhere near the places we have traditionally seen them, this time of year. But are mostly staying very close to thick cover. I have cameras out that have barely gotten a deer picture in weeks. Very interesting hunting season so far for us. We are rolling with the changes, and trying to get close to the deer where they are, not where they've been. We ARE getting closer.
  6. Great buck! Congratulations to your brother!
  7. Happy Veterans Day to all my brothers and sisters in arms. God bless all who gave the ultimate sacrifice, throughout our history. So that we can live in the greatest country the world has ever known. Thank a vet for that America.
  8. Honestly my friend, I never really pay any attention to what other hunters are hunting with? Makes no difference to me at all. I like to switch back and forth, between my compound and crossgun....er....I mean crossbow. Crossgun...... I still laugh when I hear that! It's sorta like when someone says... "did ya catch a deer"?
  9. Some complications from her surgery last spring. Nothing major. But painful. Thanks for asking buddy. Will forgo hunting today to be with her, and do some things around the house for her. She is my everything.
  10. So sorry. I know you'll miss her dearly. But you gave her a great life, with all the love she needed and deserved. Right up to the very end. No doubt she's now bright eyed, and tail wagging over the rainbow bridge. You'll see her there someday. She'll be waiting for ya.
  11. Sitting in Dr's. office with Mrs grampy for a scheduled appointment. Hopefully I'll be hunting later on today. But there is a yard full of leaves to be blown and bagged. So IDK??? Back to work tomorrow, then off Monday, for a three day weekend. That will be the wrap on my 2021 bow season. Went the last five days doing dark to dark sits, in great set up's close to bedding. Got nothing to show for it but a sore back. But that's hunting for ya. I've been giving it my best shot. Still not over till it's over.
  12. I'm hoping you just being out there, helps you feel a little bit better my friend. Good luck!
  13. I tend to agree with you guys saying tending grunts. I have heard tending grunts in the past. Almost sounds like a rhythmic 'tic-toc' over and over. But this one was more of a 'bahh' of varying durations. Never heard anything like that before! But tending a doe is the only thing that makes sense. So cool to go out and see, or hear something new from deer, after about 50 years hunting them! Thanks for you're comments guy's.
  14. Saw two different mature bucks cruising at mid day. One above where I was set up, one below. Way too far for a shot. Both hugging thick cover. Had something happen late this afternoon, that I have never heard before in the deer woods. I was in a hub blind close to thick cover, (notice a pattern here?) when a buck started grunting. And grunting. And grunting! Non stop! For almost 20 minutes! I couldn't see him. But I don't think he was moving, pretty much stationary? No sticks breaking or anything like that. Just non stop grunting! Have no idea whether it was an old or young buck. I've heard tons of bucks grunting over the years. But never like this. For so long. Non stop! And yes, I'm positive it was a buck grunting. Anyone else ever have this happen? Three doe's out front on edge of thick stuff, before the buck grunting began. Towards the end I got laughing, thinking this buck will grunt himself hoarse! It ended as abruptly as it started. I estimate he grunted a minimum of 200 times!! Non stop! Whatayathink????
  15. Let me start off by saying Chef is definitely one of a few downstate members on my bucket list, to meet up with! Thats a solid group of guys down there. I know I'd have a blast at one of their GTG's!!! 2nd....I am by no means, in any way, a prude. I appreciate a raunchy joke now and then, like most all of us do. But....this is supposed to be a family forum too. I know for a fact that young people come here! My grandsons have since they were around 11 years old. I know too they hear much worse at school, than anything posted here. But my point is, we have to have a baseline of rules, followed by ALL of us to keep the integrity of this forum on the upside. And at times some just push the envelope a touch too far. In any number of different ways. A warning from a moderator should be more than enough to know that ok....this is a bit over the top, I'll have to not do "this" HERE??? Then just go about your business. What is shared outside the general forum, in PMs and texts, is fair game! Have at it! Common sense should tell you, if what we are posting, is appropriate for "everyone" who may read what you post. I know everyone won't agree with what I just said. But it is my honest opinion. We are all entitled to that. Every one of us here, that makes up the bulk of this place, has, and should have, that entitlement! It's all of us as individuals, that make or break a good thing. I also hope to see Chef back soon! He contributes so much more, than he ever took away from this forum.
  16. November 10th has arrived! Seeking at it's peak! I'm going in for another all day sit. Came really close to getting one yesterday. TWICE! One I couldn't get stopped. The other just never gave me the shot I needed. In heavy brush. To all heading out, have a magical day! Since the 80s when I started bowhunting, on November 10th, I have killed 12 bucks. More than any other single day by far. And on the days I didn't kill one, I almost always have a day like yesterday. It's the time of year when bucks get crazy. November 10th. And the five days before and after, are in my experience, the best days of the year to be in the deer woods. Regardless of moon phase, weather, or most anything else. Someday, I need to make a dedicated thread to November 10th deer activity.
  17. Long story short. I'm beat. But had close encounters with two really nice bucks. One early and one late today. Passed up a chip shot on a smaller buck in between. Does are coming in. Bucks are chasing them. Right on time for Nov 10th magical day! This was by far the best day hunting so far this year.
  18. Up and at em again all day! Good luck to all heading out!
  19. No shots, but saw two shooters on the way out about 100 yards from where I was sitting. Getting closer! I think it's finally picking up. Just in time for the magical day of Nov 10th ! Buck up in that area again in the AM.
  20. First time this blind has been hunted. Been here 6 weeks now. 30 yard shot to the huge buckthorn bedding area, that borders a swamp. Major deer trail just to the left of center window. Saw 5 bucks come out that trail last year from another stand. With the lack of deer sightings,, just gotta move closer to where they are bedding. Wind is perfect. If a buck cruises the outside edge scent checking for does, I'll have a shot too. Continuing to grind it out and keep trying to come up with a plan that works?? Maybe this will? Maybe it won't? But I'll continue to throw everything at em that I can! Eventually something will stick!!!
