Up, showered, having coffee with a sausage biscuit. Looking to shoot a buck today. That's the plan! Both bow and CB are loaded in the truck. Bow gets first dibs. This is the day a bunch of deer get hung up!!! Good luck to all heading out! Keep safe. Shoot straight.

My first crossbow was a Barnett Raptor. It was just ok. I bought a CP 370 from a member here three years ago, and love it!! You can't find a better crossbow for the money. I think once you measure tip to tip on yours, you will see it measures just a tic past 17 inches.

Anytime you can be in the deer woods is a "good" time to be there! Over about 50 hunting seasons, and a whole bunch of deer, I'd say a very slight edge go's to morning hunts for me. But have killed them at all hours, including mid day. First and last three hours being the majority.

Same thing here! I know the deer are still here, just don't seem to be following traditional travel patterns? Food preferences are the biggest difference, with a low crop of acorns this year locally. Got six days to hunt, starting tomorrow, and a plan to hunt set up's we haven't hunted in awhile. This is the best week of all to be in the deer woods. I plan to make something happen!!! Keep positive and grind it out!

Seeing blood pumping, bubbles in it, and hearing crashing, usually will add up to smiles and high fives!!

As you well know, that can change in seconds!! He's in there, just have to wait for him to make the next move. Sending good mojo, and a prayer too!

Are you hunting my hunting area ??? Sounds familiar!!! Deer are there somewhere. Just not where we are used to seeing them so far this year.

Hands down........SMELL ! A deer may just stick around, if it see's, or hears, something a bit out of the ordinary. Even movement. It will stomp and head bob, trying to get you to move again. It even sometimes will try to circle downwind, to confirm whatever it is seeing or hearing. But once it detects danger from it's nose, the vast majority of the time, that deer is gone!!!

I will randomly switch between my compound and CB, depending on how my right shoulder feels that particular morning. I prefer to carry my bow. But have no issues at all taking the crossbow either. Once full inclusion is passed, it will likely be my #1 choice.

Everything is washed in scent free soap. Kept in individual totes, down in my hunting area of the basement, with a couple handfuls of dried leaves stuffed into a few small cloth bags tossed into each tote. (More natural smell than the scent wafers I think. And more for my own benefit than scent control.) I have seven very large totes, holding different things, based on how warm or cold it is, and for various gear too. While hunting, everything I'm wearing is in the back seat of my truck, or in the covered bed. In between hunts, stuff is put back in the totes, or hung up to dry in my shed or basement. Wash when I think it needs it. I do try to keep my hunting stuff free from the most obnoxious smells like gasoline, and other strong odors. But I'm not overly protective on scent control. As I think paying strict attention to wind direction while on stand, is much more important.

Full moon...........10 to 2 or mid day. New moon......... first and last two hours, or early and late in the day. Of course these are just generalisations. Hunt every hour you can be out there.

We have a similar looking 4 point on the property this year! If I get a chance at him, I think I'll take it! Never shot one like that before. And I think he's so cool looking!

I certainly would if I were out there! I'm stuck in the office too! But I'm off next week. Had a tough last three days, with little or no deer seen. But....the farm has been noted for this on again, off again stuff for the 55 years I've been hunting it! 750 acres available to us. With more than half of it so thick and nasty, you can't get in there! But the deer do! A state park safety zone on one side, and public land on the other. Adds up to the deer could be anywhere, at any given time! It's a blessing and a curse, but I love it....lol We always have some decent bucks here. And it's like a chess game trying to be in the right spot, at the right time! But a chess game that we usually win by the end of the season. And the challenge of it is what builds my love of this property more each year! I do have other properties to hunt. But a deer from the farm is always more special to my hunting partner and myself. If this was a place where we could consistently just go out, sit a few times, and score a wall hanger, I don't think we would love it as much??? IDK??? That all said.....we have some great bucks on the property this year!! I hope to meet up with one soon! And I know I'm truly blessed to have the hunting opportunities I have!! Can't wait to get back out!!!

Sat from dark to 3:30pm. Saw two yearling bucks around 8am. That's it!! Saw nothing yesterday! Checked cams. Nothing but a couple of doe and fawns. Not sure what is going on at the farm? No deer activity at all to speak of. Be back at em again this weekend. And off next week. Will give the lake property, and the Pine Bush a go too at some point. I'm sure at any time, the bucks at the farm will go nuts. I'm not sweating it. I'll get my chance soon. I know the deer are here! Just not moving much or very far apparently. I'll "endeavor to persevere" !!! Sorry crappyice, I gave it my best shot today, just came up short. I think by Saturday, things will be smoking hot on one of the hunting properties.

Had two little bucks cruise by so far? Anything with a rack will get an introduction to Mr Muzzy!
