  1. Before I started handloading my own recipes, Remington ammo shot the worst of any other brand of ammo I tried. I only hunt deer with a 270 and a 7mm-08. With handloaded Nosler 140 grain for both. Love the performance and accuracy of those bullets.
  2. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family. My prayers are with you.
  3. When getting your first bow, it's all about feel. Forget brand names, and choose the one that feels best to you! Sounds like you have a line on a good bow shop and tech. That's more than half the battle. They should get you all squared away. Once you have your new bow, learning proper form from the start, will be imperative to shortening the learning curve. Plenty of YouTube and other sources to learn from. Then once you have that, each shot will be a check down, done exactly the same each shot. Proper grip. Draw smooth. Push-Pull the bow. Hit your anchor. Let the pin float over the target. Smooth release. Follow through.....Don't move that bow arm, till the arrow hits the target. Repeat over and over.
  4. Cynthia, sending thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
  5. Congratulations my friend! You have had a great year! Way to go!!
  6. This is really close to me! I might have to enter! I grew up fishing Thompsons Lake.
  7. Congratulations!! Beautiful late season buck! Way to stick it out!
  8. Congratulations Bob!! Well earned my friend!! So happy for you!!!
  9. You are way overdue Bob!!! Get out there and git em too!! If you score a buck this week, I have a spot picked out in my man cave for the forum plaque!!! Sending you good luck !!! You got this!! Can't think of too many, who deserves a late season buck more than you and turkeyfeathers!
  10. Great article!!! I am the worlds worst fly fisherman! Have all the stuff, but just have not put in enough time. I hope when my retirement comes, I will have more time to devote to it.
  11. Get out there and git em!!! Sending you good luck my friend!!!
  12. Sunday the 5th. Alarm went off at 4am, but my body wasn't having anything to do with that! So got to the farm about 9. Asked my partner to take a ride to the east side of the property, to scope out a spot I could sit close to where I'd park my truck. After just a little searching I found a spot on a bluff, overlooking the back side of a woodlot. Good enough. Not even 100 yards from where I'd park, and all I needed was to bring a milk crate to sit on! Will be perfect for a sit sometime. After leaving that spot and getting my wheeler I was going to a short ladderstand to watch the brushy end of a pasture where we had seen a nice buck a couple times. Not far from the stand I see someone sitting in the stand. A trespasser. I posted about this part of the day in another thread. By the time that issue was worked out it was almost 3:00. I thought about just heading home early. But remembered the spot I found earlier. So grabbed a milk crate and off I go for the last hour or so. Walk the 75 yards or so, put down the milk crate, look around and 10 minutes later I see something moving! I'm watching as a big bodied buck stepped out from a tangle of brush! His rack doesn't fit his body, and he looked like one we'd had on camera a couple times? So I decide I really want him!!! Had to wait for him to slowly work his way to an opening for a clear 50 yard shot. My 270 Sako barked, he made a run of 20 yards before lying still. A solid 3 year old that dressed in the 190s!!! I can't begin to say how happy I was!!! I almost fell off the darned bluff jumping for joy! Been a tough season for me. But this was a great feeling.
  13. I don't follow ANY of the so called expert hunters. They are only trying to sell you something. "Look what I just shot! You can shoot one too if you use........" No thanks. Let them come to my property! They probably wouldn't even do as well as I do! There is no "magic" anything, to get more game. You need only two things for successful hunting.......experience, persistence. Lots of ordinary hunters on youtube just filming their hunts, that I find much more enjoyable to watch.
  14. Not to mention the sheer joy of opening the tax bill!!! Thing is, there are just about as many deer on that state land as what we have! Perhaps more! Nowhere near as many hunting it now than it used to be! But to poachers, apparently the posted signs mean the bucks are stacked behind every tree! That idiot yesterday, sat looking into a pasture. with well over 700 acres of prime hunting land at his back. So stupid!
  15. Gotta give a BIG thanks to Robhuntandfish for setting this up, and all the work involved keeping it all straight. It has been really fun following along week after week!!
  16. You're right Paul. Someone else will find him in their stand at another property. That's what these dirtbags do! And rarely do they get caught, much less have a citation written. This guy got two citations, because he was so arrogant, and not the brightest bulb in the pack.. Seems like most every year we have to go through this.
  17. Happy Birthday Zeek!!! All the best to ya today!!
  18. Looks as if I boosted BowmanMike to the lead! Cool! Sorry Rob, I originally put down doebuck1234 as my pick. But after thinking it out, changed it to CabinFever. That man has put in so much time he just has to score!!!!
  19. No offense to doebuck1234, he's a great hunter! I was just thinking..... If I can do it, so can Cabin Fever!! C'mon Bob! You will finish strong! Not many have hunted harder! I pick you to get it done this week!!
