  1. Great article!!! I am the worlds worst fly fisherman! Have all the stuff, but just have not put in enough time. I hope when my retirement comes, I will have more time to devote to it.
  2. Get out there and git em!!! Sending you good luck my friend!!!
  3. Sunday the 5th. Alarm went off at 4am, but my body wasn't having anything to do with that! So got to the farm about 9. Asked my partner to take a ride to the east side of the property, to scope out a spot I could sit close to where I'd park my truck. After just a little searching I found a spot on a bluff, overlooking the back side of a woodlot. Good enough. Not even 100 yards from where I'd park, and all I needed was to bring a milk crate to sit on! Will be perfect for a sit sometime. After leaving that spot and getting my wheeler I was going to a short ladderstand to watch the brushy end of a pasture where we had seen a nice buck a couple times. Not far from the stand I see someone sitting in the stand. A trespasser. I posted about this part of the day in another thread. By the time that issue was worked out it was almost 3:00. I thought about just heading home early. But remembered the spot I found earlier. So grabbed a milk crate and off I go for the last hour or so. Walk the 75 yards or so, put down the milk crate, look around and 10 minutes later I see something moving! I'm watching as a big bodied buck stepped out from a tangle of brush! His rack doesn't fit his body, and he looked like one we'd had on camera a couple times? So I decide I really want him!!! Had to wait for him to slowly work his way to an opening for a clear 50 yard shot. My 270 Sako barked, he made a run of 20 yards before lying still. A solid 3 year old that dressed in the 190s!!! I can't begin to say how happy I was!!! I almost fell off the darned bluff jumping for joy! Been a tough season for me. But this was a great feeling.
  4. I don't follow ANY of the so called expert hunters. They are only trying to sell you something. "Look what I just shot! You can shoot one too if you use........" No thanks. Let them come to my property! They probably wouldn't even do as well as I do! There is no "magic" anything, to get more game. You need only two things for successful hunting.......experience, persistence. Lots of ordinary hunters on youtube just filming their hunts, that I find much more enjoyable to watch.
  5. Not to mention the sheer joy of opening the tax bill!!! Thing is, there are just about as many deer on that state land as what we have! Perhaps more! Nowhere near as many hunting it now than it used to be! But to poachers, apparently the posted signs mean the bucks are stacked behind every tree! That idiot yesterday, sat looking into a pasture. with well over 700 acres of prime hunting land at his back. So stupid!
  6. Gotta give a BIG thanks to Robhuntandfish for setting this up, and all the work involved keeping it all straight. It has been really fun following along week after week!!
  7. You're right Paul. Someone else will find him in their stand at another property. That's what these dirtbags do! And rarely do they get caught, much less have a citation written. This guy got two citations, because he was so arrogant, and not the brightest bulb in the pack.. Seems like most every year we have to go through this.
  8. Happy Birthday Zeek!!! All the best to ya today!!
  9. Looks as if I boosted BowmanMike to the lead! Cool! Sorry Rob, I originally put down doebuck1234 as my pick. But after thinking it out, changed it to CabinFever. That man has put in so much time he just has to score!!!!
  10. No offense to doebuck1234, he's a great hunter! I was just thinking..... If I can do it, so can Cabin Fever!! C'mon Bob! You will finish strong! Not many have hunted harder! I pick you to get it done this week!!
  11. Thanks everyone! Heck of a day today! Will post the buck story tomorrow.
  12. Whew....what a day! Just now settling in to my recliner in the man cave! First things first. As most of you know, I've been dealing with a health issue lately. NBD......not my first rodeo with this kinda stuff. Doc told me last week to just lay low, don't stress yourself. No hunting! OK I says..... I was out all day yesterday. Close to where I could park my truck, from a ground blind. No climbing! So I was following the doc's orders, kinda. I just couldn't get going this morning, and didn't make it up to the farm until 9am. Decided to go to a spot with a short ladder stand, in the field behind the barn, and just drive my wheeler to it. Climb 4 rungs and sit for awhile. As I'm coming across the field I see the stand and someone is sitting in it! So I drive up to the base of the stand, and here sits a guy with no orange on at all on. A black coat, holding a rifle. Knowing he probably came from the state land that borders ours, which is shotgun only!!! So I ask him, do you mind if I hunt my stand? You are on private property, and I'm asking you to leave. He tells me to F off, it's not my property it's state land! Now, I'm done being nice! I threw a few F bombs back, and told him the state didn't put up the stand his dumb azz was sitting in, and he had to pass at least 3 F'n posted signs to get there! I know that, because I hung them myself! He tells me to F off again, and to find somewhere else to go, cause he's hunting there! And to stop harassing him! OK I says. Get back on my wheeler go a little ways, call my hunting partner, tell him what's up and to call DEC. We drive to the State land parking area, and there is only one vehicle there. We have the DEC officer meet us there. It's gotta be him? So after quite awhile, the officer shows up. Understandably, there are only 3 of them to cover the whole county. He was an awesome guy! Told him the story again, and he asked us to show him where the stand was on his phone app. He told us to wait where we were. After some time the officer comes over the hill with the dirt bag, and the DEC officer is carrying his rifle. The dirt bag says that's the guy on the four wheeler! Damn Skippy it is! When the officer found him he wasn't in the stand and was on the border of our land. So trespassing at that point was borderline. But he still wrote citations for hunting with a rifle in a shotgun only zone, and not wearing hunter orange. The guy says before he left, that he thought he was on state land and he wouldn't be back hunting here again! My partner and I looked at each other and said cool! We thanked the officer, and left at about 2:45. I didn't know it then. But my day was about to get much better!
  13. First off.. There are two guys I'd like to thank. Both know who they are. One is a member here. The other a lifelong friend. I couldn't do the gutting, due to some issues I'm dealing with. Doc said to lay off hunting until we get things straightened out. And thank God and Savior for bringing them to me. And watching over me. This isn't the biggest buck on the property. But I am so proud of him. In my mind, he's my best buck ever! For so many reasons.
  14. Dealing with a trespasser with DEC. Guy sitting in my stand and became belligerent. Man does this suck!
  15. My Native American teachings when I was a boy, say the owl is a spirit bird. The spirit of a loved one who has passed, will ride the owls wings to visit us.
  16. I couldn't get up at 4am when the alarm went off. But I'm getting ready now. This guy is my main motivation! Good luck to all heading out!
  17. I'm heading in. Against Dr's orders and good judgment. I can't just not go! Spot I'm headed to, is only a couple hundred yards from where I'll park. My hunting partner and family, are only a text away, should I need help. I've hunted six days so far in gun season. Seen deer in every sit. Very unusual for here! Not going to be very selective at this point! Best of luck to all going out today!
