  1. Don't know why it posted sideways.
  2. Doesn't get much better than this for me. Voodoo Ranger IPA.
  3. Yeah I eat the greens as well. Very tasty sauteed with some mushrooms and salt!
  4. I hear morels are hard to cultivate but there are plenty of other types that work well. BTW- Has anyone seen ramps popping up? Going to check my spot tomorrow.
  5. I'll go take a few casts for the sake of it.
  6. Gun laws have 0 effect on my life. Doesn't even enter into my head. Can't say I'll stay in NY forever just due to cost.
  7. I stick to what I know and usually add a mushroom every year or two to my pick list. Started with morels, then went to dryads saddle, then to oysters, chicken of the woods, chanterelles, boletes, and last year started picking puffballs. Found a bunch of puffballs and about 8lbs of chicken of the woods last hunting season. They were great. Always wanted to pick fiddleheads. I've seen a lot of them when picking ramps but never bothered to pick them up. Anyone like these?
  8. Who is excited for morels? Just about 7 or 8 weeks from now. When the snow melts in a few weeks hopefully, I'll be out looking for ramps, they shoud be popping up soon. Love this time of the year.
  9. Not pass on so many bucks and end up up with none.
  10. I'm getting it without a second thought.
  11. I bought a $50 electric meat grinder from Tractor Supply 6 or 7 years ago and it's still going strong. I also use it only about 6 times a year.
  12. Happened to me twice this year. Was out with my CVA Optima last Saturday and stalked around a big bedding area without seeing much and then across a field and to another bedding area. Saw a deer bedded downhill about 100 yds away. Wind blowing in my face. Snow was a bit crunchy in some area but I figured I had nothing to lose at this point so I thought I'd stalk up to the deer and get nice and close. I stalked to the deer for about 45 minutes and when I popped up (deer was over a small knoll so I couldn't see it for 20 minutes of the stalk) the deer was still laying there facing downhill, never once looking back. I realized now that it was a buck. It was a pretty decent 8pt outside it's ears. I was so pumped and my heart was beating. I was at 25 yds at this point and I walked a few more yds downhill to rest on a tree (didn't want to mess this up). I got all settled, took my time, set the scope behind his shoulder as he was bedded and looking the other way and squeezed the trigger. There was a pop and a sizzle and a bunch of smoke came out of the barrel. The buck jumped up as I was cursing to myself and looked around. I see his front shoulder was broken. He looked around and all I could do was watch him hobble away. The weird thing is that the bullet was gone as well. 100% sure I loaded it the day before. So the powder sort of lit enough for the bullet to come out of the barrel but it didn't shoot. Got home and cleaned the barrel. Could not get the breech plug open to clean, maybe that's the problem. Well, on Monday. I left work early and went out for my last time of the season. Made a big loop around the property and saw a small 6pt. Figured I didn't have enough time to still hunt anywhere else so I sat in a stand on the edge of a huge field. Haven't hunted this stand in years and didn't have much hope. 15 minutes before sunset, I see a doe 250 yds across the field. Then two more came out, and then two more. I figured the chances were low that they'd come my way but after a few minutes, two of the deer broke off from the rest and walked the 250 yds right under my stand, a doe and a button buck. They came within 10 yds and I set on the doe and squeezed the trigger. Same horrifying pop and sizzle and puff of smoke and the deer ran back the whole length of the field to the others. Same thing, the bullet came out of the gun but no bang. So, I ate tag soup this year. Will bring to gunsmith to figure out. I'm thinking the breech plug is gunked up or the powder is old or something.
  13. You doing this near me?
  14. Haven't stopped at Equilibrium yet. I have a friend that works there, he says the beer is legit.

    The Drag

I believe you hunt near me in the Dover/Millbrook area. I live around so I'd lend a hand if needed.
  16. 3G- Sat all day yesterday. Saw a small 8 and grunted him in. He grunted back. Didn't have his nose to the ground. Didn't see anything else until right before dark when a doe came by by herself. Nothing followed. Sat this evening and had a 4pt run a doe and doe fawn from about 300 yds away in to 35 yds. They all stopped at a scrape along the way and all sniffed and peed in it. He was grunting a lot and was right on their ass. It's heating up!
  17. I feel stupider for having read this thread.
  18. Kudos to you. That would not be worth it for me though.
  19. It's a beautiful city. Nice mix of city and country.
  20. If you like beer, you must go to Asheville NC. Awesome city and incredible beer culture! Went to 11 breweries in 2 days. Went to: New Belgium, Wedge Brewing, Wicked Weed, Funkatorium, Bhamari, Hi-Wire Brewing, Twin Leaf Brewing, Green Man Brewing to name a few and the best I went to was Burial Brewing. I Had an IPA or two at every place and the best IPA i had that day (and maybe ever) was the Hawk Bill IPA. I brought some home and also found a local place that sells it and it is an amazing IPA. This would be my go-to if t wasn't $16 for a 6-pack.
  21. Fiddleheads were a month ago here. They are all unfurled into ferns now.
  22. Had some luck the other day. Has anyone seen such a big morel? Weighed more than 1/4LB. Ate it for breakfast this AM.
  23. I've been looking hard the past week, probably put in 6 hours total. Didn't find any in the woods but walked out my house to go t work yesterday and found 4 morels in my yard. Weird spot. It was in the roof drip line in some gravel and only 1 pine tree around. Weird.
