  1. What type of trees/terrain did you find them near?
  2. I looked for a few hours the past few days and haven't found any in the usual spots i find them. On the same property I was looking, my buddy found a bunch. I did find some young dryad's saddle the other day. Cooked them up with some eggs, ramps and scallions and they were pretty damn good. I'll pick some more if I find them young.
  3. Hey guys! Anyone finding any morels yet?
  4. Knob Creek kentucky bourbon on ice is the best. I like Jameson and Tullamore on ice too. Bullet is another I like bit it's sometimes a little too sweet.
  5. Yup, first 2 weeks of November is always the most active time in the woods I've noticed.
  6. I have all mine out still. I'll get them on my last hunt or shortly after.
  7. Sucks to lose a place you have been using forever and have a ton of memories on. Happened to me a few seasons ago.
  8. No because I wouldn't be able to hunt. I don't take any days off to hunt.
  9. Usually I am in stand about 30 minutes before legal shooting. For opening day this Saturday, I'll try to be in stand by 5:30 and let the neighbors on their quads push the deer to me.
  10. Shoot em all. Can't bust you if they're dead namsayin?
  11. Rut is starting here I think. Awesome morning. Had a doe come in, look around and then ran back out in the field with 11 other does. Had a 4 pt hang out under my stand and as this is happening there is crashing in the thick bedding area and a big 8 comes out but turns and heads a different way the last second. Me and the 4 pt watched silently. LOL. My buddy was sitting a 5 minute walk away and saw a monster 140" 10pt running some does and 3 other shooter 8's. Awesome morning. Can't wait for tomorrow.

  13. Wash everything beginning of season in scent free detergent. Keep in black garbage back the whole season. Spray down before hunt when I remember. Play the wind.
  14. After passing on many doe that had fawns in tow, I finally decided last year that I was going to fill my tag on the first good sized doe that I had a shot on, regardless if it had a fawn or not. Both doe I shot last year had a fawn with them. The first time the fawn ran away and that was it. The second one stuck around after the shot and stared right at me for 5 minutes and then followed the blood trail into the thicket after her mom. Then she followed the blood trail back to the shot site and started bleating. Then she followed the trail back to her mom and at this time a group of 4 or 5 doe strolled through and the little one connected with them and left the area. I did feel bad about it but I would probably go it again. It just depends what mood I am in in that particular moment.
  15. I've grunted, rattled and bleated in bucks but I've found that it doesn't work that often, but when it does work, the buck throws most caution to the wind and runs right to the sound. Grunted in my first buck a few years ago. He was all rutted up, I saw him across the field and I grunted and he raised his head and walked right to me and I shot him. This was my best experience in the wood. Thrilling hunt. The year after it was at last light and I did the hail mary doe bleat before I got down and I hear something coming fast out of the swamp. It was a nice buck breathing really hard and he stopped at 40yds and looked around for 5 minutes. I didn't decide he was a shooter until he ran back into the swamp and I saw his big rack from the back. I rattled twice yesterday and 5 minutes after the second time a small 4pt came out of the bedding area to the base of my tree and was looking around and then wandered off. So, I find calling to be just another part of hunting but I don't rely on it too heavily.
  16. For you beer nerds- Go to Portland. I repeat-Go to Portland. I've always loved beer but going to Portland in September reignited my love for beer. Went there at the tail end of a trip out west and it was incredible. Was only there for 1.5 days but spent 1 day going to 7 breweries. Got to hotel, typed in "breweries" on maps and there was a bunch within walking distance. Des chutes brewery was one of the best beer experiences I've ever had. This city really knows its beer.
  17. I'm going salmon fishing this weekend so I won't be out until the following weekend. Killer.
  18. Well, I'll upload some more pics when I get a chance. Bad News- The homeowner said no hunting on his property (property across the street from where this pic was taken. See the deer and other big bucks there every time I drive by). But, still haven't heard back from the property owner where I took this pic so there is a chance still.
  19. Saw this buck in a field across the street from where this pic was taken the past 2 nights. He's with 5 other bucks, 1 small 6 and the other 4 are monsters too. There's an 8 that's just as big, maybe a little bigger than him and another atypical with a ton of junk. Wrote to both properties asking permission. Doubtful but it's worth a shot. Buck fever!
  20. Not kidding. It's in a case, but I put it in there Sunday to shoot with a friend and never took it out. I need a new string anyway.
  21. Mine has been in my trunk for the past week throughout this heat wave. Oops.
  22. Thanks Wooly. Love your shots! Shot this with my Canon T3 with an old M42 Pentax 200m F3.5 lens. Shot handheld at F3.5/ ISO 6400. Really just getting into shooting low light shots like this. Tough to focus and get the show without blur. Just bought a window tripod. That would have come in handy last night.
