Stubby, I'm sure you've been asked this before but it still confuses me.... For a guy that gets zero emotion out of hunting, isn't excited by it, sees it as a chore to gather meat, doesn't aspire to target a specific age class or any other form of selection when it comes to deer, can't grasp why people show respect by hanging their racks to be admired or their pictures to stir memories... I'm struggling to understand why you are so avid on a public hunting forum. I know people who are non chalant about hunting, aren't thinking about it every day like most of us do, and I can tell you for certainty they wouldn't have any desire to join a hunting forum. And you seem to keep pictures of the bucks you kill, have shoulder mounts (that your dad did), remember aging specific bucks etc.... All of which adds up to even more inconsistencies in what you post? If they truly are "food, nothing more" then would you keep pictures of the farm raised cattle you eat? Or the chicken you raise and butcher (if you do or did?). Those things are truly "just food." Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

I can't stand McGregors mouth, both are talkers for sure but I hope McGregor gets humbled a bit. I think it's a genius move by McGregor though, he can make more in this fight than any MMA bout and walk away a rich man if he chose to do so. For the sake of boxing's future I hope Mayweather flattens him. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

I absolutely love it, 3 guys at work bought them after looking at mine. If you're in the market for a single pin I'd highly recommend it. No clutter, 11 rheostat settings, simple adjustments. Couldn't be happier. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program
chrisw replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Deer Hunting
You're self diluted reasoning is always amazing me, just when I think you can't get crazier, there you go, upping yourself. If you're getting fat in your mouth then you obviously don't know how to process a deer properly. Perhaps the bucks only take you half as long is that they're half the size?? You clearly keep all of those deer racks on your wall as memories/trophies (same as most) but you denote any recognition of what a trophy is to "me." Could I fill a wall with spikehorns year after year? Absolutely. But that's not "my" trophy. I would rather look up at my wall of "trophies" and remember the hard work that went into finding "the" buck, not "A" buck. Every topic that comes up you either muddle up with a bunch of Jesus justification for your actions or act like your way of doing things is better than anyone else's. Also your constant "my family NEEDS "this many" deer to make it through the winter is about as realistic as watching mountain men on TV. You're just a guy who likes to shoot deer and basically every deer you can scrounge up a tag for regardless of size. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk -
If you're interested in an Axcel Armortech Pro 5 pin with the dovetail slide let me know, I replaced mine with the Apex Covert Pro and wish I had went back to a single dot sooner. The covert pro isn't really a "pin" as it's an LED inside a lens that adjusts the same way single pins do but you get a completely free of clutter sight picture. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

You've never seen a brown woodchuck? Fishers have longer tails, and that would be a seriously obese Marten or mink... I'd put $ on woodchuck... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Slightly unrelated but anyone ever see natural mineral licks? We used to have 2 spots on the property growing up and for whatever reason the deer would dig up the dirt and eat it. (No it wasn't a man made mineral lick and they certainly weren't scrapes). I used to put cameras over them and every year they'd come back in the spring and dig in it again. Kinda neat. I took photo in high school, but didn't pursue it much afterwards, in March I broke down and bought a nice DSLR and I've been researching and playing with it ever since. I've been bitten by the bug that's for sure! I enjoy it, it's like hunting for "the" shot... I'm far from where I want to be but that'll come with more experience! Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Went out kayaking this morning hoping to get a few shots of birds with my DSLR. Wasn't in the water 5 minutes and an eagle came by. Here's a few shots I got today, enjoy! Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

I only buy bare shafts because the first thing I do is wrap them. Wraps are simple to put on (use a computer mousepad), look great and make finding arrows easier. If you're setup has enough weight forward already I don't think you'll see an effect from the wrap. With that said, if you put a wrap, heavy vanes and a lighted nock on the arrow you'll most likely notice a difference. Everyone's setup is different though. I'm all for wraps, never had a complaint about them. Installation, removal etc... I've done thousands of arrows in the past. What most people do a crappy job of is fletching the arrow afterwards is mostly what I've seen. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Fished from my kayak this morning in the Oneida river, did well on panfish, I kept about half of what I caught, a few largies mixed in as well, the bass all went back in the water. I much prefer eating sunfish and bluegill to any bass. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk -
I shot a buck a few years ago during archery that I noticed had a slight limp but nothing too crazy, after I shot him I noticed his right rear leg was all busted up and completely healed up, his hooves were about 6" long on that foot because it never touched the ground for who knows how long. They are remarkable little critters. Here's a few fawn facts that I admittedly looked up today because I wanted to know more about them. They can typically stand and nurse 30 minutes after birth, have 294-306 spots on average, weigh 6-8lbs at birth, can feed on vegetation around 2 weeks old, typically can outrun predators at 3 weeks, twin fawns are separated and typically reunited at 3-4 weeks old, fawns feed 4-6 times a day, the mother doe is typically always within 100 yds of her fawns, the does bed away from their fawns as not to attract predators to the fawns location. I scouted today down in 7M and decided to toss out a few trail cams earlier than usual. On the way in I saw a buck sporting about 3" of velvet, first of the year for me. Among my travels (in a real thick evergreen growth) I stumbled across my first fawn of the year also, I saw it about 8' from me tucked under a tree. I snapped a few pics and let it be. I would've loved to spend an hour getting shots of it but I didn't want to spook it or make it too uneasy. No matter how many times you find them they're always just as cool. About an hour later I was sitting on a log in the sun taking a break and a coyote came by, hopefully he doesn't find what I did. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

I'm going to try ceviche with walleye or perch fillets, anyone done it before? Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

My favorite part of the eating had to be the ceviche the first mate made out of the first mahi mahi out on the water. I'm not a big ceviche fan but it was awesome! Just sliced it thin, added lime juice, onion, garlic, tomatoes and cilantro, let the lime juice cook the fish for a bit and it was phenomenal. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
