  1. Please vote. No need for a discussion about it here. There's another thread to do that in by First Light at the moment. Edit: Bubba, you can expand the list to 10, not 5.
  2. I'll have to dig up the info, but a recent article in Quality Whitetails just showed that mechs have a slightly higher recovery rate than fixed in one large study. Interesting. It wasn't much, but still.
  3. The obvious just went over your head, Doc. The message board has made a decision to allow political threads to populate the recent/hot topics list. That is a site decision. Most other hunting boards remove that political/off-topic sub-forum from feeding to that most commonly used part of a forum - the recent/hot topics list. ArcheryTalk, QDMA, Hunting Beast, you name it, and the hunting forum blocks political posts from hitting that list. I don't think anyone would give a single hoot if there were a billion political posts in that subforum as long as it didn't feed into the recent/hot topics list. At the same time, they know where to find them if they are looking for them, the one sub-forum. Basically, the site is allowing one sub-forum to dominate the entire 41+ sub-forum site through that decision. Again, a site decision. One that goes against the common site management practices for most hunting sites. Plenty of people are agreeing with me, and those are long-time members. So, let's not blame members for a pee poor decision by the site's staff.
  4. My time here has been limited due to this trend. This forum seemed to have alot more value when the political posts were not overtaking the board and the recent posts list. I still try to chime in from time to time, but its no longer a great resource imo. I dont see the value in me contributing as much to the board as I tried to. Other than the occasional jab at Papist, I stick to basic posts and dont delve into too many topics. I know I am not alone as other people ha e done the same. Problem is, usually that gap is backfilled with new members. I dont see that happening here.
  5. Loreal fired her and said they dont test on animals. Not that they didnt hunt americans. It was also the us/belgium game I believe as she is belgium.
  6. Here's another one that bit the dust. Shame...short lived. Getting a contract like that was life changing for her I bet. Now, ripped away because of a trophy photo online. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2124811-belgium-fan-lands-modeling-gig-after-world-cup-image-takes-off?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial&hpt=hp_c3
  7. Whre you moving to Bill? I met you a time or two at a few NYSTA meetings. Was curious what you were up to these days as I hadn't heard much from/about you since. Good luck with the move/sale!
  8. When I stopped worrying about what bow I was shooting and buying or getting a new one for work each year, and started focusing more on hunting and being able to shoot the bow I have in my hands as efficiently as possible...my hunting success went up. Some people like to shoot bows and hunt as a means to exercise that desire. I have gravitated toward bows (and guns) as being a tool or a means to an end to put down my game. The good thing is hunting can be what you want it to be...casual, serious, etc.
  9. Thanks all. It was a good day even though I didn't take work off.
  10. Dandy buck. Hope you see him again.
  11. No worries. I have to do all of the heavy treestand lifting anyway, lol.

    Scouting

Scouting seems to be interchangeable with cams now.
  13. Fixed vs. mechanical is a debate that will never be won, lost or decided in large. I use both. Slick Tricks and then the G5 Striker/BPS Blackout variants in preference of fixed. I do however, use Grim Reaper Razortips. I've been using them since 2010 and am just impressed with them. I still use the slick tricks and keep one in my quiver or when blind hunting, but the Grim Reapers have proven to me to be very reliable. I shot rages for parts of two seasons and loathed them and pretty much all mechanicals before the Razortips. It's just a well designed head all the way around. I have practice BH that I use on my targets. From a cost perspective, I believe the mechanical practice heads are better because they tear up my 3d/Rhineharts much less than actual blades on a fixed. I haven't shot a field point in 4 years now on my hunting bow with the exception of initial changes to a tune/setup. There are pros and cons with both and people shouldn't overthink it. If you get a setup that works for you, have confidence in it. Some people fear a mechanical breaking down. Some people fear the limited cutting diamater/area of a fixed. It's a personal decision. I forget the number of does I have taken with that setup, but the bucks since 2010 have been at 35 yds, 55 yds, 35 yds, 20 yds, and 12 yds. Bottom line is you have to have confidence. Admittedly, the 12 yd shot was the worst of the bunch, being a high double lung hit, and I believe the extra cutting diameter of the BH helped keep that buck from going far. There was little/no blood going to be available for tracking, and he made it about 20 yards before bedding down and being resigned to his fate.
  14. Where'd you pick them up for that price? That's a good price. The MPE5 is a good cam, but it is their intro cam with very limited options. I think it is a great cam for someone who uses mineral licks or corn feeders (obviously not here in NY). I forget whether the sensitivity option is on it, but if you can adjust it, set it to low in the summer months and bump it back to normal in Sept/Oct. It has good battery life. I would also suggest setting it so there is a backdrop for the flash to bounce off of. While the flash is decent and comparable to most $100 cams, it isn't as great as say, the Red 40.
  15. I had one of those before. Ultimately, the only thing thay stopped it was a divorce.
  16. Dell outlet has inspiron 15s for low to mid 300s.
  17. Dell outlet is good. I bought my XPS computer through it and im on year 7 with it. If you grab a comp and you dont have a full windows suite, I get a deal through work for it and I have a key you can use to download it for free since I already bought it years ago. I also get a dell discount but it doesnt apply to the outlet. A basic inspiron will work. Look at newegg.com too for deals or walmart as they sell some computers cheap on sale.
  18. Take the camera, put it in the freezer for a few days. Use compressed air to blow out the ants after opening up the cam internals cover.
  19. Whats that optic store online thats based in NYC? I been to the store and they have trail cams in stock. Good prices too.
  20. I already got pics of the buck you killed. Heck I was dancing in the stand at the poor thing waving my cell phone around at it.
  21. Sheesh. I can just see it now this November...missing a buck because the cam needed to be turned on.
  22. Dont use the gauge for lithium. Keep track of your pic count instead.
  23. Bps commonly puts stores close by. The ones in hampton and richmond va are similarly close.
