I have a washer and dryer just for my hunting clothes...having a back up really wasn't a difficult issue. I get more greif over the lower cost items...like a cheap game cam or cheap stand, etc....things I have several of.
-
Some Primos have issues in heavy canpoy. Heard about it mostly with the 35...not much of it with the 60.
-
It's also the best ammo for having a back up bow. Years ago, I sheared the pins off my sight one hunt (a branch somehow found it's way in when walking to the stand). I was out of commission for a couple days before I had a chance to fix it and resight....never again. Having two bows isn't that big of a deal cost-wise - it doesn't have to be expensive at all.
-
FYI - Center Point is a Crossman brand...that's right...as in Bloomfield, NY. The scopes are not made at the Bloomfield plant; however, the CP crossbows are made there.

QAD has done well for me on my backup bow. Have a Limbdriver on my primary it shoots the best in my opinion (on my bow setups) but it's not the friendliest for hunting purposes (containment issues at times when in a stand). For a good cost effective rest...I've not heard much in the way of complaints about the NAP apache rests.

Great bow company. The hold at full draw is downright pleasant on their bows.

Early archery - Projecting 22 days to hunt full days (as in no work requirements) and then whenever I can sneak out for a morning or evening short hunt. Gun - All weekend days except for one and then the long T-day weekend. MZ - four days scheduled. I took a day off work during MZ last year and liked it...weather was a little brutal but much less pressure and less stressful than the opening week of gun. I guess that puts me around 36 days of uninterrupted hunting this season. I almost always pick a day during my two week vaca to sleep in for a recharge. That helps me with burnout.

BPS can't even open in Buffalo...they won't in Rochester, that's for sure.

I don't see many people shooting the 3" 20 ga. myself. I don't think it's a Henrietta problem...it's more likely a supply/demand thing for the industry.

I suppose I should clarify my comment based on reading this. A hit deer needs to get down...and that means getting arrows or bullets in the animal. You're beyond the realm of judgement and into the "finishing of the action." I think most people would agree in that situation.
-
I certainly wouldn't take that shot with a bow. With a gun, if I felt inclined, I would...I just don't see that happening very often. I don't think we need to get into the differences between how each kills, etc. Other do as they see fit...but I don't consider that a high percentage shot with the bow. The margin for error is too high based on my shooting abilities and the typical conditions of the animal and environment.

If you freeze it...put in just a bit of water, like a teaspoon or so. When it melts, this can be used as spray scent or in a scent canister. Same premise as the gland, just a bit easier for some people if they don't want to tote the gland around.

I think like most things, people overreact (not the bating stuff...but GMs product selections and pricing). My Mossberg 500 smoothbore seems to LOVE the federal truballs...normally $5-$6 a box. Gm had them for $3.49 on sale...and then a mail-in rebate bringing them down to $1.49. I thought that was a good deal. Now, their regular prices are usually high on most things. But, even like Dick's...you just have to scope the deals.

The eberhart books are great if you bowhunt. Brad Herndon's Mapping Trophy Whitetails is also good. Although I probably make more use out of the Eberhart books, the Herdon book is almost always out because there's so much info in it and good to refer to. It's a great book on understanding how deer relate to cover/elevation changes, etc.

You are certainly right about seat time. When it's limited, there's a bigger need for anything that can help turn the odds in the favor of the hunter a little more. This is one of those examples, if you believe the theory. It's always going to be hit or miss...weather being a big impact, even on the days projected to be good hunting days. It's a roll of the dice, but these theories, if you believe in them, cut down the days to really consider for the vast majority of hunters.

Not that many hunters have the ability to hunt the entire month of November. Most don't even have two weeks to do so. So, there is a need for the majority of hunters to be able to identify the best times for them to be in the woods on a much narrower scale. This is most often influenced by work/family commitments and hunting styles (wanting to hunt the rut rather than an early season patterned buck, etc.). When you have 1,2,3, or X amount days of vacation time to schedule well in advance of that time...it's becomes critical. I don't think anyone wants to waste that time (figuratively) when they could have chosen a better time based on research available today. Sure, the potential is there for being wrong or taking time when a warm front comes in, but that's part of the bigger picture, and the research (in theory) helps to eliminate or reduce the window of opportunity for most to take off. Now, the information is debatable, but it's meeting a demand assuming that hunters support a particular theory. Basic business sense if you really think about it. It's just another tool to consider in the hunting process.

I once went into a dick's to buy a bow for my girlfriend...a razor edge. The 15% coupon off one item was usable on that. I went there and they had a big selection of clearance items. I wasn't planning on buying this stuff...but for $611, I got; The Diamond Razor Edge package including sight, quiver, rest, etc. LW Alpha (American made) LW Climbing Sticks (American made) 2 sets of Ameristep rapid rails 1 16' climbing stick The manager wanted that stuff gone..all I did was ask him about the items. I should have bought the remaining stock out.

Biggest I've seen in person and been able to wrap my hands around...I've not come close to this. The guy knew it was a big deer...but didn't know it was THAT big.

One piece of ground is a transition between mutiple food and bedding sources and it gets heavy traffic. We keep it clean until Halloween weekend.
-
Try hanging the cam off the ground 8-10 feet and angle accordingly. Trying it this year and having great results. One cam had 160 deer visits this past month. One.....one! Deer looked up at it. Cant believe i didnt do this years ago after a few suggestions to do so.

Works great for the schmucks with three weeks of vacation to use then. Those who have less have to make a choice.

Just wondering who is hunting out of state this year?

Sounds like a great upcoming season...Iowa is on the list to do in 3 years. -
new to forum desperate for landowner permission!
phade replied to orvisman25's topic in Introductions
At the very least you can get on waterhsed land...I imagine they still require the basic permit (since they changed ownership). It's not private ground...but at least its something and not too far from you. -
Sounds like you ahave the first year model. The current year is not supposed to have the clunk. The green light is annoying. Where did you get info that deer see green light best? As far as i know they see in the blue spectrum which would make me think a blue light would be most easily seen.
