Glad I haven't got a bunch on the cams this year. Maybe our coyote management plan is working? . That one looking right at the camera needs a shot in the face! > ;D

I have never used any attractants for anything in three years with trail cams. For one it is illegal. And another thing attracting deer off their normal routine or travel is not doing me a damn bit of good as far as hunting them. Because well its illegal to use edible attractants to hunt deer in ny. So therefore if I want a chance at taking one of those good bucks during the season. Its best to know his potential travel corridors. But it is being done quite a bit in ny and pa,can tell ya that much. And to be honest could care less. If someone gets self satisfaction on taking deer that way ,all to em. Now if baiting were legal, I would be in the same boat. Could care less. I have friends and relatives who live in states where it is legal to bait deer, hogs, and bear. Hogs and bear I see the need to bait them in some areas. Deer in canada and some remote wildernesses have to be baited or you will never see or get them. But in most states there are plenty of food sources to pattern deer. Food plots always pop into baiting no matter what. But what benefits deer more? A constant food source or a bag of acorn rage or c'mere deer. That debate will go on forever. In my opinion if your foodplots are perennial or are to be maintained every year to help wildlife. There's a big difference. How many guys are gonna spend thousands of dollars on bags of attractants in the off season or throughout the year to help their deer? And how many other animals truly benefit from deer attractants. One you are changing the landscape or beautifying it. The other you are dumping it in a pile and it is a short term fix for deer. The question on how to draw deer into a camera. Good ol fashion scouting. The cameras are there to see what you are scouting. I find areas in open hardwoods where there are tracks, acorns, browse. The reason why the deer are there is the key. I clear spots on trails come back a day or so later and look for tracks. If I find fresh tracks a camera goes up. Trails leading to a food source(agriculture),the trails that are most worn or have tracks goin both ways. This year has actually been the worst out of 3 as far as pics go. The deer have been on random patterns in some areas. The neighbors are logging their property and has the deer travel mixed up to say the least. And many of the corn fields are still standing near us. The deer are using them for cover too. Last year I got some very nice bucks on trail cam. This year some are still there just no pics. No biggie though. Nice to share pics with everyone. But I'm hunting them and not concerned over lack of pics. Good luck with your cameras. Look for rublines now and scrapes getting hit now ,they should show up at some point.??

I have seen the results. Does it make a difference absolutely. We have had restrictions, by choice though, and have done it for quite a few years. Do the neighbors benefit from it? Sure they do. Will we ever see Iowa, kansas type whitetails? I don't know. But if I'm correct some of those big buck states never implimented antler restrictions. It became more of a if my neighbor is doing it,maybe I should. Cause some of the bucks they took were larger than the ones i took. I can see the state implimenting antler restrictions. Because some of those states are making some big green on nonresident hunters. I think it should be in slow moderation so the hunters or people can see results. Then it may settle somewhat better. 3 points to one side is not a hard thing to comply with. There are a lot of 6's and 5's every year. But again it should be in moderation.Either parts of counties or counties as a whole. I don't have the best of property food wise for deer. But it is nice to see more than a couple good bucks each season. I also have no problem with meat hunters. I don't buy their license. If it's good for them it's good for me. Not hypocritical. I just don't push my views or opinions. If folks want larger or mature bucks to have a crack at. The more there are the better the odds. if not thats ok too. As long as they enjoy hunting. And like I said i believe the state is gonna impliment ar's at some point anyhow.

The funny thing is ,I've heard guys say it would be great to have a tastey animal you could hunt all year. And at any time. The thing is they don't breed like deer. They breed like rats. I wish i still had the video on the damage they do. It is unreal. And they also become another predator for deer. They have been known to kill and eat fawns, turkey nests, grouse nests Any thing that lays eggs on the ground basically. Imagine their sniffer. They rout into the ground to a foot or more to get food. All the native animals we enjoy to hunt. Would be moved out of the way for these things. I will kill them by any means if you ask me.Piglets, sows, boars wouldn't care. On my buddies land in south carolina, they tried a foodplot once. Luckily their deer don't have to endure a winter like ours do. And the deer down there are mainly browsers he said.Anything over 3 feet up. Just imagine those nice acorn covered ridges gone! fruit orchards gone! And having to worry about going to or leaving your stand in the dark. It certainly is a reality. And as it what stated. They are in few numbers now. They are eating machines and would be harder to keep track of with less numbers. But for anyone that does see them I'd shoot as many as you can. Our agriculture will go down the crapper. And we will lose even more farms in the state. Their population can triple in a year.

I was hunting a friends property he had just purchased. I'd never been there he pointed me in the direction. And said, take your climber and set up shop anywhere you want.It was quite a haul back in there. I came to the edge of a swamp. So in the early light I set up in what looked pretty darn good . I found a tree and climbed. It was more or less a scouting/hunt. As it got lighter I noticed something white out in the swamp and pretty good sized. Couldn't tell what the heck it was? After hunting i decided to investigate. I sloshed through the swamp mud. As i got closer I thought what in the ? Here sits one of those big old 500 lb bath tubs!!?? Who in the heck would go to the effort and how did they get this thing out here? He had no clue either. -
Yeah whats with the clothing anyway? She better climb right up that tree! ;D ;D

No shooters but still. I couldn't decide what stand to hunt that morning. Every morning has become a decision making process. Don't wanna burn any stands out so its musical chairs.LOL! looks like they hung out in the area for a couple hours. Here's what happens when ya forget where one of your cams is exactly. Had to stand there for several minutes for the spots to go away! : :D

Well the wind blew again today, something new : . I got down out of the stand and decided to take a stroll quartering into the wind. I was slippin through a patch of thick pines, when I caught movement on the outside edge. It was a deer milling along had no clue i was there. I couldn't tell at that range whether it was an adult doe or button buck/ I got to 60 yds and looked at it through the binos. Two tufts on his noggin. I decided to see how close I could get to him. Went from 60 to 36 yds. He'd raise his head I'd stop. Put his head down and I'd resume. I drew on him once. Saying come on mature in 5 minutes and get some bone on that noggin! . Then he wheeled around and started my way. He walked by me at 20 yds got down wind and never caught me just kept on walkin. I snapped off some pics of the monster. If he stays on our property he'll be on some new turf next year and on his way up the ladder. He wasn't on to me ,he was takin a dump.

When the rush is gone time to quit. Glad you are getting a different perspective of deer hunting welcome to bowhunting.

Every year I just have to go to the range with the gun or line up the 3d's and shoot especially the last week before the seasons open. But i also shoot during the archery season. And here and there with the gun. For me personally it is more for confidence than anything. I did have one year i didn't get to the range a whole lot during the summer and took it for granted. But when I had a deer in my scope and began second guessing myself on the shot. I didn't like that feeling at all. Good thread.

Nice buck! And huge body! He must have rubbed telephone poles. congrats!
