Lousy Meal At The ..........................................
robw replied to Lawdwaz's topic in General Chit Chat
leave a review at Yelp http://www.yelp.com/biz/ship-n-shore-lockport Not sure if this is the restaurant you were at, but yelp is pretty easy to use. I check every restaurant out there before we go, just to see what people think, and haven't been steered wrong yet. -
nice!

Flat bottom boat with a pull rope would do the trick, regardless of depth. Used that set up before. BTW, was under the assumption that the DEC (or other state agency) had some regs around putting bridges over flowing waterways. Might check before you build anything, just in case...

Montana, so I could hunt Mulies, Whitetail, and Elk...to dream the impossible dream...

I eat whatever I get, and agree that they vary in taste, but most are pretty good. The biggest problem I find with duck and goose is that too many people overcook it. Wild fowl should be cooked rare, and cooking it well done changes the texture and makes it taste like liver. I've had chowder made that simmered too long and ruined the duck that was in it. A little pink in the goose fingers I make leaves them delicious, cook a few minutes too long, they go downhill fast

Nice That seems like a pretty big cat. Could make a whole tablecloth out of him

The 2 bucks I got pics of a few weeks ago still have their head gear! Got them on video at the scrap pile I set for coyotes. Don't seem to be bothered by the dead deer, and give a very nice view of the racks! this one is a very nice 8 point, not real heavy, but will be a bruiser next year! big 8 point.AVI This other one is a 9 point, with small stickers on the G1s Good mass, love it's shape, will be the boss next year! Will look awesome on the dining room wall..... huge 9 with sticker pts.AVI

So, is anyone going? Looks like it could be interesting. http://www.niagarafishingexpo.com/

guess those Lithuanian deer don't take no crap! Just like their women!

The one thing the wildview does have going for it, is the flash for night shots. These buck pics look pretty good, but if they had gone by my Bushnell, you'd have the date, time, moon, and temp all correct, with a black and white photo. The wildview also have issues with the power switch, doesn't always want to turn on, and uses 4 c batteries that only last ~ 3 weeks. Won't buy another one, but will run this one till it give up the ghost!

They got Navy Island Lawdwaz, damn them!!! Hey Woodjr55, which water intakes are you referring to? Niagara falls?
-
Hadn't thought of that Doc, Just thought he didn't like the red lights on the camera, but trap shy makes sense. One of these nights when it's not 0 degrees out, may have to walk back and "cure" him of that issue

?????? is asking what fast eddie?

Thought this was kinda cool... hawk on carcass.AVI
-
Put the cam on the carcass from my muzzle loader doe to see what's out there. Tied it to a grape post so they couldn't run off with it.Seen these guys a lot. Also have a ton (over 40) videos of deer walking up and checking the carcass, inc. 1 nice 8 point(not the one in my pic post) yote jan 17 a.AVI yote jan 19 nervous.AVI

Got these 2 bucks on camera this week. Where they were during the season....no idea, never saw them. Next Year! disregard the date and time on the pics. My Wildview Extreme 2 camera resets the date / time whenever the camera is jiggled, bumped, or looked at too hard.

That's some pretty good shooting. Only 1 walking shot, got 3 running and only needed 1 follow up. Took a few seconds to put down the 2nd one, but considering he just dropped 4, gonna bet the adrenaline was pumping a bit, and probably needed a moment to actually get on target to finish it. 4 in the freezer is probably a bit too much venison for me, but I wouldn't hesitate to drop 2 (as I have on occasion) or even 3 if the chance presented it's self.

We have Direct TV but my main selling point was the NFL Sunday Ticket. Only Direct TV has that, and I love to watch football

Spent all day Sat in a tree with my in Allegany State Park, only saw a couple hunters with their kids heading out from the cabins around 6 AM when I was moving out. Didn't hear a shot all day and never saw another hunter. The park was packed with people, but there is plenty of room for all of us out there. (64,000 acres) Did have a nice talk with a guy and his kid after dark in town, and they didn't see anyone either. Kid was still pretty excited to be out though, and that's a good thing. Congratz to your future little bro-in-law Jeremy K - the park can be tough hunting, glad someone knew where to take him!

I'd of let him walk......Not one more step! Nice deer, hope the big guys like that one near me show up now

So the flip side of that coin could be... doesn't not taking advantage of the technology available, and simply deciding that technology is bad, make him an unethical hunter? After all, why would you only use a smooth bore shotgun, when a rifled barrel and a scope, properly tuned and matched with a well designed slug will greatly enhance your accuracy and make it much less likely that you would wound an animal. And aren't recurve bows are much harder to hold on target (60 lb at draw vs 12 lb, for example) greatly increasing your chance of a poor hit? The answer, of course, is that there isn't one. Which ever way we choose to pursue the most exciting big game animal in our state (IMP) within the legal boundaries of our state hunting regulations, is the right way. Keeping people, especially the younger folks, engaged in the outdoors, is not just a good idea, but is a necessity if we want to continue to have the hunting opportunities we enjoy now. We each have the right to disagree, and the discourse in this forum is a good media for doing that, but keep in mind, at the end of the day we need each other to present one united front in defense or our hunting rights, or we'll end up with more safe-act type legislation restricting us even further.

red squirrels are the worst! A close second is other hunters on their cell phone. 2 bow seasons ago in Allegeny state park,I snuck in my tree before sunrise, on stand for 30 min, then hear a phone ring. Then hear someone say "hello?" Apparently, it was vince calling, and wondered where this dumb ass was hunting. DA reported he was all alone, no deer (really???) and they discussed several topics, including where to hunt that evening, and which bar to hit afterwards. That was when I called out " shut the hell up, say bye to vinny" Got quiet after that, never did see the guy.

Hate to break up the Summit love, but I've had an API climber for many years and love it. Very stable, easy to use, and holds my almost 300 lbs safely. Have a grandstand magnum, tried a summit once, but didn't like the cable latch system, at the end of the tube. Have seen 1 summit cable break on a friends stand, cable broke at the stop, was probably a manufacturing defect, not from normal use. (happened while climbing, 4 feet up, didn't fall) API uses a coated bike chain to latch on to trees, and pins through the frame, seems better to me. never skimp on a tree stand. At 25 feet up, the extra $$ is well worth it, it's a long way down, and being caught by your harness isn't all that much fun.

I probably spend 2X as many afternoons hunting as mornings, as they're easier for me to get out, but tend to shoot most of my deer before 10AM. Last year, early Oct doe shot at 830 am, on state land. Early Nov buck shot at 900 AM on private land. Last 3 years, have 7 deer shot, 5 of them before 10 AM and 2 after 3 PM. Morning do seem to result in better hunts, and I don't miss the chance when I can get out, but afternoons are better than nothing
