  1. Love these stories! Keep them coming.. I learn so much from them and hope one day to be helping out fellow hunters with a K9 companion.
  2. You can't shoot one sitting on your couch... he says as he is sitting on his couch watching football. ;-)
  3. sat till dark... nothing was moving. Hopefully she will have an opportunity during bow season. This is her 3rd year with spending lots of time in the woods. Hasn't had a good opportunity to connect yet.
  4. . We are back at it. Pretty warm out here! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. We sat in the treestand for 4 hours in the rain.... that was enough of that. Home now drying everything off, eating, resting and then I will take her back out around 4PM. -Dave
  6. Taking my daughter out in a little bit for youth hunt. Hoping the rain lets up some as we don't have rain gear. This has not turned out to be a good weekend for youth hunt.
  7. Why wouldn't she call the police? Perhaps because she could be charged with filing a false police report.
  8. Hoping my 15 year old daughter will get one this weekend. She has put a lot of time in the woods the last two years and hasn't been able to get one. Hoping this is her year!
  9. just ordered one on Amazon. Thanks for the recommendation!
  10. Looking forward to seeing some pics from the woods... I can't make it out today
  11. If it wasn't a pass-through, the can flip back when if the deer pulls it out.
  12. I saw a bunch of bucks moving yesterday... all too far. I was out all morning today and didn't see a thing.
  13. I have no experience here, but I suspect it depends on how the deer is standing when shot. Weight forward, it is probably more likely to kick with rear legs. I would think it is pretty random from our perspective.
  14. At the age of 45 I started hunting last year. I wasn't able to connect on anything last year, but did shoot my first dear (a doe) a couple of weeks ago with my bow from 20 yards. It is probably one of the most memorable events of my life. Exciting beyond words and I will remember every detail of it for the rest of my life. With that said, I have always wondered how I would feel after killing an animal. Would I feel sadness or regret? These questions actually are one of the reasons I never hunted when I was younger. But, after killing my first deer, I felt no sadness at all. It was an amazing feeling as I placed my hands on that beautiful animal. I felt amazement at what God had created and provided. It was a great feeling of awe and it seemed like one of the most natural things had taken place, man killing animals that God created for food. I look forward to experiencing that feeling again .... hopefully real soon
  15. This is awesome info for us newbies! Thanks so much!!
  16. This is awesome! I love reading these stories! Keep up the great work!
  17. Awesome info, Buckstopshere! - Thanks!
  18. Taking my daughter out this weekend too for her first gun hunt. She bow hunted last year (and loved it), but didn't get anything. Hoping for better results this year. We will be hitting up public land since that is all we have available. Dave
  19. I would let me come and shoot the 8 and keep the 10 for yourself Dave
  20. I started bow hunting last year. I brought out every item I could possibly think of in my backpack. Most of it was never needed and just got in the way when I was looking for something I needed. This year, I am not even bringing a backpack. Will carry bottle of water, rangefinder, knife. Walking in I will be wearing my harness and headlamp. If I shoot something, I can walk 5-10 minutes to my car to get other things, if needed.
  21. I just got a HSS Hybrid Flex. Trying to carry minimal things into the woods this year and hoping the pockets will eliminate my need for a backpack.
  22. Wow! This is great information everyone! I really appreciate all your help. I will definitely try out some of your suggestions. As I mentioned, we both started bow hunting last year. My daughter is the one that really wanted to do it, so I decided to go along for the ride. After the first deer sighting, we were both completely hooked! It has been so great doing this with her and sharing the same passion. Thanks again! Dave
