  1. Good luck! If you're in for excitement I invite you to get involved in threads that talk about baiting game and the sale of salt-licks in New York the distance at which you are willing to shoot at game, particularly with archery equipment the ethics of using friends & family's tags in which portions of bow season crossbows should be allowed is .223 enough to kill deer That should get you started!
  2. I would also allow cops to frisk me whenever they want if it saves thousands of lives, but that's not really what the math works out to. On the contrary they would frisk hundreds/thousands (no idea) of people for every life saved. BTW this is the best article anybody on the planet has ever conceived of as far as why "nothing to hide" (or I've done nothing illegal) is not a compelling argument. Short version: you're probably a criminal even if you don't know it. Long version: https://www.wired.com/2013/06/why-i-have-nothing-to-hide-is-the-wrong-way-to-think-about-surveillance/
  3. I'm a newbie so my opinion is almost meaningless but yeah the range finder is an essential gadget for an archer IMO! Learned that the hard way last year.
  4. I will probably start doing head shots with the bow this year (60 yards max). Makes for the more humane kill and maximum meat retention.
  5. I agree with this in general. Trump is a lot of things, a clown, a buffoon, a blow hard. Absolutely all of these. But a dummy he isn't. People keep pointing to his bankruptcies as some indication he's bad at business, but none of those criticizing have a massive jet with their name on the side or sky scrapers with their names on them.
  6. If I were a betting man I would say: acquittal. I haven't seen the other videos, but apparently other cops are basically saying the same thing. Here is what the jury is going to decide: Was the action of the cop reasonable for the circumstances? Maybe they were, maybe not. If the guy is ignoring commands, which he clearly was, and they find out he was high (he had pcp in the car), and he's reaching into his car it's fairly reasonable to think he's going for a weapon. It could also be that she is found guilty, but I wouldn't bet my life on it. I sure as heck don't always defend cops. I've seen plenty of vids that make me sick and I'm disheartened they are still employed when in fact they should be in prison. There are some vids online of plain, uninhibited murder. This is not such a video. Even with a conviction it's possible to say there were extenuating circumstances.
  7. These days I think the ferguson effect is having a real impact. And it's only going to get worse. The message is loud and clear and any cop not paying attention does so at their own risk. That message: if you kill a black man in the line of duty the specifics of the case don't matter; your career may very well be over. You can lower the odds of it happening by 1) Treating people well and 2) Avoiding any kind of an altercation; don't get in a foot chase, stay in your cruiser, arrive to calls a little slower.
  8. Portugal. I hate drugs, I never do them. I don't even drink, but things were not as bad as even I would have thought they would be after decriminalizing. https://www.thefix.com/content/decrim-nation-portugal-ten-years-later The hard is a harder argument. Legalizing marijuana to me seems a no brainer now. It's certainly no more injurious than alcohol and so many people are in prison over it.
  9. Looks like an awesome spot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. So you are distilling your view on Islamic terrorism to the "no true Scotsman" fallacy. I guess this ends our conversation on the topic. Literally no way to move forward. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_true_Scotsman Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. So is that a no on the bet? Maybe you are after all willing to admit Islam is disproportionately responsible for terrorism. I will happily read the entire Koran if you can explain how my reading it will change the fact that despite being only 1% of the US population Muslim terrorists are nonetheless responsible for the huge majority of terror deaths in this country over the past several decades. Will my reading the Koran change that math? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. That's a bit of a worry for me, too. I truly enjoy shooting the bow. The crossbow seems like you buy it, shoot it 10-20 times, then throw it back on the shelf until a week before season, confirm it's still hitting and then you're off with it. But that's crazy grouping at 60. Academy has them for $299 now also free shipping. Must.......resist.......
  13. On the contrary, that was from the koran you say you read; muhammad had sex with a nine year old. I could pull up some quotes about sex slaves and killing infidels if you'd like. You know those ones, though--they're the very ones that isis uses when it takes sex slaves and kills infidels. Makes it hard to say they are bastardizing islam when they base their actions straight from its so-called holy text. Let me try something else--a morbid bet. It should be an easy way for you to make $20. When there is next a domestic terrorism event in the United States, if the person who does it says they did it because of their religion and they are a Mormon I will give you $20. If instead their motivation was Islamic in nature you give me $20. Considering Mormons outnumber Muslims 2X1 in the United States, you have great odds, right?
  14. I generally disagree with mandatory minimums because too many people in prison over nonsense. Not huge on more gun laws in general; I think we need no more laws (I have no problem with background check on all purchases, however) because guns are too often demonized at the expense of completely ignoring the people who use them. AWs are a great example. They are constantly in the media and though they are disproportionately used in mass shootings, as a portion of shootings in any given year they make up a tiny percentage of deaths. By far most people with AWs are gun enthusiasts--legal ones who never do anything but shoot paper.
  15. Well I'm sure this street goes both ways. I see no more blind loyalty among trump followers than hillary's. The country suffers hugely from political "loyalty". As for "blindly agreeing" airedale clearly supports stop & frisk but he has no problem explaining why, which is the antithesis of blind loyalty.
  16. Definitely decriminalize marijuana. Consider decriminalizing other drugs including hardcore ones. A few others nations have done it and to surprising effect. Not sure on guns. I see them as symptom of a problem, not the problem. In the suburbs gun ownership rates are higher than in inner city, but kids don't run around with them. Their life is not in the place they feel they need them. Gun violence barely exists for the huge bulk of the nation, even among gun nuts. It is highly and wildly overconcentrated in certain areas. Inner city violence is made worse by guns, but without guns it would still be degrees worse than elsewhere. I do think the single biggest factor is the lack of family unit. Kids are born out of wedlock to young moms without educations or jobs and their sperm donor fathers are nowhere to be seen. It's a recipe for disaster, and disaster is thus cooked up time and again.
  17. I heard a rumor that will be legal for 2017-2018 season in NY.
  18. I gotta stop soon. I'm still fiddling around. Next up I'm going to buy an extra pack of broadheads and lash their blades together so that I have three practice heads.
  19. From where? Amazon has them at $350 now, but often amazon will go stupid on a certain item's price. Where would one buy these now? UH OH, looks like price on these is $350 everywhere. You guys did well, I may have missed the boat. I won't pay $350 when it was $250-280 elsewhere recently. I don't need one that badly (I think?). I wish I hadn't seen this thread. It's starting to borrow a hole in me. Like an itch I can't scratch, or rust on a car that keeps growing. When I look at calculators of what 350+ FPS does with an arrow the ballistics start looking pretty darn amazing compared to my vertical bow. I would only get this if I could realistically and responsibly extend my archery range to at least 60 yards. It still has over 90 lbs KE at that distance, but accuracy is my concern. I'm not sure string ducking is because after 30-40 I'm thinking maybe if the deer hasn't ducked it won't (just guessing, though). How are you guys doing now? Any pics of groups at 50-60 yards?
  20. Why are they rampant? At the heart of it stop and frisk allows a person with a badge and gun to stop you because they don't like the way you look. I don't mean race; it could be anything from race to clothes to your sports jersey, in theory. And they can claim whatever they like about why they did it. As you spell it out it makes sense. Some people just look legitimately "shifty" and there is a good chance they are up to no good, but I still think it ventures too far from the freedom and into the security realm (trading one for the other). The problem with the law is it allows any cop to stop anybody and come up with a bs excuse (and we know cops have done that a lot in the past) about why they did it. So you can be walking down the street, get stopped, hassled when you've done nothing wrong and may in fact not have appeared shifty at all. But the cop doesn't like you for some reason so stops you anyway.
  21. As the article points out the issue is less that of jobs and more the disproportionate stress illegals (legal immigrants tend to be more educated and work in higher paying professions) place on government coffers.
  22. It would bother me. And though I absolutely recognize it could be effective in reducing crime, it is also an activity the US shouldn't have. It's quite literally right there with "papers please comrade". It gives free reign to a cop to stop you for any reason and hassle you. It's one step away from a shakeup for money. The shootings are rampant because inner city communities are falling apart. Their family units are completely disintegrated. Removing guns would help, yes, but there are other ways to help as well.
  23. I'd like to also address this point specifically. Even if you're right (you're not), saying that people giving views on islam is as bad as throwing gays off rooftops and stoning adulterers to death is something I shouldn't have to point out as ridiculous. A really silly statement, I suspect you now realize.
  24. I'm fairly sure the NYC bombing just happened, not hundreds of years ago. My post addressed modern islam, which is relevant to modern terrorism, not ancient islam. How they did or didn't behave hundreds of years ago is merely an academic argument. But, I'm surprised in your reading of the koran you don't remember all the times in which muhammad promoted violence against people. This isn't surprising considering he was a pedophile slaver himself. Can you counter any of the points I made with data? I can back them all up with data. Bullet list: islam and terrorism immature governments economically weak poor contributors to technology widespread avowed support, according to pollsters, for violence in the name of their religion

    Lighted Nocks!

I suppose I can conclude these are hitting the same. I still want to say the lighted are hitting very slightly higher than my regular ones and if so I am blaming it on the very stiff string hook up on my regulars stealing a bit of speed from the arrow. But, in a couple pics (not posted here) in which I compared weighted nock (3 BBs glued into it) with lighted it was hard to determine a real difference in POI. Anyway, at most it's only noticeable at beyond-hunting ranges. So, here we go. The second picture with the four on top of each other was the tightest four arrows I've ever shot at 50 yards (if we ignore the flyer to the left, that is). That's within 1.5" group on those four. But, that was cherry picked. None of the other groups looked that nice!
