  1. Well this is going better than last year. 19 yards. Shot was high but I got double penetration, though not pass through. Is bigger than the boy I got last year (7 points). He actually walked by 10 seconds after my last post, behind the stand and I had a perfect opportunity to my left. This is on public land.
  2. Oh damn. I just checked the pics on the cam in front of my tree and 18 min before I got to the tree an 8 point was feeding in front of it. Lots of deer at this spot but all before 8 am or late at night, at least as far as this cam saw. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Weather looks bad for my schedule tomorrow and later today so went to my best spot and will be here until late morning. Made a terrific mess of noise using my climber for the first time in months plus picked a bad tree so pretty low down. Oh well, the weather is nice so no complaints really. As usual I was late and parking as the sun was already up.
  4. It is a great store. It will also accept dicks coupons. Get the free reward card from them; points equal to 3% off on purchases. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Just sprayed all my clothes an hour ago. Ticks are no joke and you need to use this in addition to checking for them when you get home on the skin.
  6. Forcast currently for no rain until late morning so I will have to give it a shot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. My first day hunting of any sort last year. Came upon a doe. Like your son I guessed at 30 yards, used wrong pin, arrow skimmed just over its back. That night I bought a rangefinder. For most of us estimating past 20 is extremely difficult and even being off by five yards can cost you a hit. But with the deer you are on you will have one bagged in no time.
  8. It is, but I can't put anything to it on such a tiny sample size. Would want to have multiple dogs running the same scenario with multiple people and see a large data set.
  9. I have a horse mask I got on amazon. I should really just throw that in my bag, it's pretty awesome.
  10. I badly wish I had a clown mask. If I did, and I saw a trail cam this year on public land, I would absolutely slap that mask on before going in front of the camera.
  11. I'm confident none of us will ever see a clown in the woods with a sword. Agree with above much of this is hysteria. The public are easily rattled and can become afraid of their own shadows.
  12. Wife is trying to get me to do some other nonsense tomorrow morning. I'm pushing back hard because at least last night the weather was only good tomorrow morning. If it's raining hard I will absolutely not be going out. I have no interest in watching trees get wet, and I don't think deer like to move when it's raining. If misting or drizzling I will be out.
  13. I think it is a fair statement that a well placed shot to the vitals results in a very modest trailing expedition. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Costanza is pricey but they turned my deer burger into amazing sausages so good I wonder if they even used any of my meat! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I put cams in one location on Sept 8. Very little activity until a few days later but since then a doe and two fawns on them more days than not, sometimes twice/day--and at great times, we're talking 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM. At one point I saw a half decent looking buck very close, but only once.
  16. $20 for the stand umbrella, saw them there yesterday in henrietta.
  17. I was just kidding 8-) No idea where that is, but the fact you have bear tells me it's many, many miles from where I hunt! Getting a nice looking buck on opening day on state land is great!
  18. As we are starting to get numbers now we can see the debate did what it appeared it would do: bolster hillary's support. Trump is now a hair behind her on Florida according to 538. His debate performance was bad, the polls are showing it. An article on CNN or cnbc (can't remember) had him chiding his aides for admitting he did badly. Apparently he had some responses versed to things but nobody knows why he didn't use them. Head in the sand won't win this election. If he repeats that performance in the second and third debates he is absolutely finished.
  19. I have a reg tax, bow either-sex tag, and two DMP. Any deer (not fawn) that walks within range is getting drawn on. I have two spots I'm planning on using this year. One would work fine for a ground blind (assuming the deer don't see it and freak, which they would if I set it up now potentially), the other is junk. Growth is too high, I would have no opportunity to shoot unless I could get up above the ground.
  20. I know that exact spot. See you there Saturday morning!! What are those otter beaver wolverine looking things? Yes, I'm really asking. I don't know!
  21. Clothes will get sawyers tomorrow, currently airing out on porch. I think I will put my stand and pack out there now, too. Otherwise ready with exception of a ripped pocket in my pack I need somebody to sew (not me!).
  22. Varies by head and also bow (60 lbs from a new bow is faster than 70 from an old)--ultimately the only thing that matters is the KE it's hitting with! This head for example says 60 lb bow, but doesn't get to a truly meaningful number (KE): http://www.ragebroadheads.com/x-treme-125-grain/
  23. Your post indicative of why I am shooting $4/heads (cheapest mechanical or close to it at Walmart). I have been carrying for a year a $4 locking knife I bought from Walmart. Used it a couple hundred times. I just don't believe a mechanical broad head should cost $12-15. Engineering on them is simple, materials are cheap, construction is easy. If anybody can produce a good test with a hooter shooter showing a particular head hitting where fields do and the other brands reliably off by some margin I would happily pay $15/head, but I bet they can't Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I can only conclude that their life depends on the exactness of the door in the frame, so they are building the building around the door. Looks nuts.
