I got this one on cam....

I agree with the others that it doesn't look like a rub. Sounds to me like you have put quite a bit of pressure on the property. I have a feeling that the buck that you are after has patterned you, so the use of scents and calls would more than likely be a disadvantage to you. I would just find the freshest sign that you can or a food source on the property and sit it (with the wind in your favor) for as long as you can.

Congrats- that smile says it all....way to get it done!

Time, determination, and the willingness to go to where the deer are. Too many people, myself included, fall into a rut when it comes to hunting the same stands and locations year after year. My buddy is the best hunter that I have ever seen and he is always on the move trying to find the freshest sign available. Once he finds it, he hunts it. He either kills a buck at that spot within a few sits or still hunts, or is off to find a new spot. He is always mobile. He also has an uncanny ability to think like a big buck, but I think that that comes with time and experience.

It's comments like these that make people feel ashamed or feel like they have to make excuse for killing bucks that they otherwise would be happy with. Get off your frigging high horse and let others enjoy their experiences. They have nothing to do with you. When everyone hunts the same areas as you, is able to put in the time that you do, and loves horns as much as you, then you can criticize them. Everyone's situation is different and there is no one size fits all solution that will make everyone happy, other than voluntary ARs.

What is it that people in the dacks love? The Adirondacks pretty much have the lowest deer densities in the state....and by a large margin compared to most everywhere else. I have had quite a few seasons in the Adirondacks where I have only caught glimpses of deer with no shot opportunities. For someone who enjoys eating venison more than putting a rack on the wall, I can assure you that I didn't "love it" in the years that I was unfortunate to not tag a deer. LOL....sounds like something that Cuomo would say about taking away guns- "you want to put some meat in the freezer but couldn't because you couldn't fill your buck tag when presented with a spike horn or a fork horn- you'll get over it..." If you are in the Upper Hudson River Valley, wouldn't just north of you be the Adirondacks? Don't get me wrong, if I had enough time to hunt, I could fill my buck tag consistently with ARs or without them. I just remember when I was getting started that I almost gave up because I was consistently not seeing deer and was getting tired of freezing my ass off. I didn't kill my first deer until I was 18 (a twelve point wiith split brows) after starting with my father when I was too young to carry a gun by myself. In the years since, I have killed spike horns, fork horns, 5 pointers, six, seven 8 and 9 pointers as well as does. I appreciate all of them the same as I did the first one. I want my kids to be able to experience hunting and have the opportunity to take whatever makes them happy with whatever time that they get to hunt. All while not having their experience restricted because someone else chooses to shoot a bigger buck.

I invite anyone who is for AR to hunt the Adirondacks where there are no doe tags available. Eating tag soup year after year would get pretty old for most people....

Way to get it done!

I have the same setup with the stealth strips. It is much quieter. I just got the stick quiver this year and it works great- even with the stealth strips. I saw alot of reviews about it being cheaply made, but it has worked fine for me so far. I like it much better than stacking the sticks- much lower profile, quicker and easier than dicking around trying to get them to stack and then secure to the stand.

Here's one instance where having a trail camera may not be so good....would be better to not know that that happened....that sucks! Good luck with him...great looking buck!
-
OK, then take Thursday and Friday off and pretend that it's Saturday and Sunday, lol...
-
I don't understand what difference it makes. If you could take Monday off to hunt, why couldn't you just take off Friday to get ready for a Saturday opener instead?
-
That's a nice buck! Hope he swings through during daylight hours when you are on stand and you give us another picture of you holding his rack!
-
That sucks....do you think that he chose to not listen to your instructions, or is he not the sharpest knife in the drawer?
-
X3 on Waze....definitely a lifesaver....and huge time saver....
-
Congrats on the buck! Sounds like a bigger buck might have been chasing him away from a doe.

Nice bucks!

Congrats....way to get it done!

Congrats! Way to get it done when your hunting time is limited!

If you are such an expert at killing mature deer every year, please start another thread and share some of that knowlege. Otherwise stop criticizing others for taking deer in a legal manner and being happy for whatever they choose to kill.
