  1. Rain or shine I will be out there. We only get a month so I put forth my best effort. If it gets too miserable, I'll change locations and hunt my ground blind, located in a hedgerow, in the center of all the fields
  2. wow, awesome pics....very talented. Thanks for sharing!
  3. Here are the two soil tests I had done. Its amazing the difference in soil between the two plots, and they are literally 300 yards from each other. Plot Test 1.PDF Plot Test 2.pdf
  4. I received my results from my W.I. soil tests last week. I love how easy it was to know exactly what type(s) of fertilizer you need and how much lime. Plus their customer support was amazing when I called them.
  5. Nice, yea I assumed it was private property bc you have trail cams out but figured it could be like my area, where everything is broken up in 20-100 acre parcels so the next property is never far away
  6. Saturday I'll be in PA, hunting
  7. If I had a tom showing up EVERY SINGLE day around the same time on my cam, on opening day I would hunt right around that camera and probably not call much. The only thing I would be worried about is it being opening day, if there are other hunters close by, they could pull him off his daily route. But then again, so can a hen......
  8. I was thinking about that the other day while working on my food plot. The couple things that concern me are: 1) being spotted by a bird on the roost while you climb into your stand 2) sounding like you are on the roost while calling, instead of sounding like you are on the ground 3) When taking the shot, you're aiming down at the bird. I believe it would cause you to put many more pellets into the body and breast meat
  9. I've always just cut them into spedies and marinated with Italian dressing and cooked them on the grill. This year though, I want to take the breasts and thighs and run them through the grinder together
  10. I have never had to but I'm in the mindset that if I have a strutter in range, I'm gonna putt a couple times to get his head up.
  11. Hands down BEST hunting show I've ever watched! They really make me feel like I'm on the hunt with them. I print a lot of his recipes out too. As far as the OP, I like watching pretty much anything the Drury boys do. They obviously promote a good amount of products but what I enjoy about them most is the videos they make outside of their hunting shows. A week or two ago I watched a video with Mark Drury and Billy Yargus where they went over the different kinds of turkey talk and how they get those sounds w a mouth call and a slate. They also went over set up, roosting birds, etc. It was like a 15 minute video and was really informative. It was posted on their facebook page.
  12. My 1 year 7 month old GSP Daisy, AKA Crystal's Extra Point JH, NA Prize I
  13. my preferred choice is COLD. In all seriousness though I like many different types depending on the occasion. Most of the time I drink Budweiser, yuengling or labbatt. But if I'm going to an all day event or plan to drink pretty heavily at home with the guys on a Friday or Saturday night, I like to drink bud light or miller light. My mom and stepdad own the Waverly discount beverage center in Waverly so I get to try a lot of their craft or specialty beers, I do like just about all of them
  14. Here's my mug. Also see some guys posting pics on dirt bikes, so I'll post a couple pics of the last year I raced quads a few years ago. Raced harescrambles for 7 years and made it to the expert class before I decided to hang up the boots. Sold the quad and now I ride dirt bikes with some local guys just for fun. And now I spend all that extra $$ on the house and hunting lol
  15. I shoot in an "animal" league at Neil's Archery in Endicott in the winter and I'm fairly consistently the highest scorer on our team of 4. 12 weeks, 15 arrows each at 10, 15, & 20 yards and we shoot at paper targets with an illustration of an animal. Out of the 4 years I have done it we have taken 2 3rd place finishes, a 2nd place, and last year we won, beating out the team that usually wins every year with a staff shooter who shoots 5 league nights there Monday through Friday. I then shoot in august, September, and October...maybe 50 arrows/week. When I shoot at home, I shoot from 20-50 yards and I can group 3 arrows at a time within a 6" circle out to 50 yards with an occasional flyer outside that ring (at the 40-50 yard marks). I would like to think I am proficient but we all know shooting at paper and shooting at a deer are still two very different scenarios. Never had a chance to shoot at a buck (I have always passed does in archery but changed that this past season and never even saw a doe lol) that was stationary feeding; Have had to always try and stop each one to shoot. I know for a fact my proficiency decreases a good amount in the deer woods due to weather conditions, open shot opportunities, adrenaline, etc. To me, the best I can do to increase my proficiency is to keep shooting the league in the winter and then when I shoot at home, shoot many arrows out at 40+ yards. This way, when hunting, the idea is to have muscle memory help on the shot at a real animal and when I take my usual 12-25 yard shots, it looks like they are much closer! But of course, everyone has bad shots eventually. You are right, it is very difficult to measure proficiency. I never take my shooting for granted, always pushing to jam 3 arrows together at my furthest practice pin (50 yards). When I can shoot 3 arrows at 50 yards and robin hood every one, I will tell you I am very proficient.
  16. Fair Enough! Tomorrow's another day, I'll find something we can agree on lol
  17. I just edited my post for clarification, go up and re-read to make sure you still agree with me lol
  18. I think the xbow is in a league of its own. the traditional bows and compound bows both need the same mechanics to achieve the shot. Yes the compound is faster and you get let-off, but they are much more the "same". The xbow you draw or crank back and lock it in. no need to draw for the shot, and we all know even with let-off it doesn't take long to get tired with a compound. Also, you can call it a mechanical release on the xbow to be technical but I still call it a trigger. the xbow gets shot like a gun. The only thing I compare the xbow to the other bows is that it shoots an arrow-type projectile and the range is short.
  19. wow that's pretty cool. I have never seen anything like that before. Surprisingly, I haven't even read about that before. and I do a ton of research
  20. Here are my thoughts on why I don't exactly agree with full inclusion of xbows: - In talking to some guys that have xbows, it seems to be common acceptance that they think they can kill deer out to 90-100 yards with one. They watched some youtube videos of guys hitting targets that far and think they're going to do the same when they hunt. - With a xbow, no need to worry about drawing back...just point aim and shoot. I can think of a couple different instances that I ended up not getting a shot on nice bucks bc I didn't have the opportunity to draw. But to me, that's part of the challenge of bow and one of the thing that separates us from the gun crowd. - During bow season, the deer do things more on their terms. It gives us the chance to scout, change plans, readjust, do what needs to be done to get close to the deer and make that shot when it's time. We have the opportunity to make more of the changes we want to achieve our success. During gun season I feel like I'm just sitting around just waiting for a deer to get pushed to me, just doesn't feel as much like hunting to me. Maybe it's my paranoia but I just think of the "orange army" all coming out with their xbows, neglecting the wind, stomping around the woods, pushing deer, trespassing, etc... which is what I hate about gun season the most. It's mayhem out there and I hope one day bow season doesn't turn into the same. I can guarantee a handful of you pro-xbow guys are going to jump down my throat too but at least let me say this. Without xbow inclusion, I am fully for hunters with handicaps or the ones who are getting older and can't draw the bow anymore to be able to go out with a xbow and still hunt. I'm also hoping like mentioned above that the course they have to take will help to eliminate some of these things. I haven't read the rules on it bc I have no desire to xbow hunt but last I knew, I thought you didn't have to take a course to hunt w xbow? I'm actually pretty confident that a bow course for xbow guys would help to eliminate some concerns. Either way, if it's legal they can do it and it's not up to me to tell someone they can't. Do I have to like it? nope. Am I going to lose sleep over it? lol hardly.
  21. I use an IWB holster from Alien Gear and I'm convinced I won't be buying anything else. I have tried a couple others before the Alien Gear and nothing could compare for me. Great price, super comfortable. My step dad bought one after I showed him mine and he loves them just as much. Definitely worth a look, at least.
  22. I don't have any info for you, but very interested in the responses as well
  23. After fox season ended, I only made it out to coyote hunt one more time. Did one morning sit but the wind erratically switched during my set so all hope was lost. I got pretty burned out on predator hunting this year, actually. Hunted so hard the beginning of October and then all winter as soon as the deer seasons ended, by the time fox season was over I lost the drive to get out there. Actually spent almost every weekend after fox season going crow hunting. That was a lot of fun and not too serious! We had a blast and shot 1,236,543,458,997 shells! lol
