So this year I decided to nut up and buy a bag of tall tines tuber. Did the prep work needed last fall turned over the soil let it sit till early spring turned it over again and roughed it up one last time before seeding. I didn't spray and still dont have much in terms of weeds. The plot is small maybe 20 yards wide by 50 yards long. It seemed to germinate great and have been bringing in a few deer. I'll attach some pics, but anyway I got back home to see a lot burned up and was very disappointed by the progress it had made. Well being that I didn't have a ton of time I worked up an area threw down some seed and we will see what grows. It was August 4th the last time I saw it and will be back to see it on the 24th so over the 20 days I'm hoping the old stuff started bouncing back and the new stuff took hold. You realize those taking the big deer this year like other years are the ones managing properties not shooting skippys? My sister shot this on our property that we pass deer 3.5 years old. Guess what we practice AR. This was actually a cull deer that is a 4.5 year old 8 point. We dont shoot 8 points but he has been an 8 point since he was 2.5. I have a few other pictures somewhere, but I'm not in any pissing match. They work end of story, she yeilded 62lbs of meat from this 140lbs. dressed buck. Caliber wise an -06 will do the same a .308 will. It will knock any north American game animal down. Gun wise the simpler the better in terms of reliability. A hammer fired gun can't get much more reliable. Autoloading it would have to be something like an AR. If i were doing an AR I think 6.5 creedmoor would be the ticket. Thanks, she was beyond excited. We have taken some real nice deer off this property. Sorry but she's not single and the land is spoken for. Haha Thanks, sad part is the picture doesn't do it justice. The bases were bigger around than redbull cans or a touch bigger than bud light cans. Truly impressive deer. I passed him 2 years ago during rifle in the same area. So the gut pile behind my house from a deer harvested in another area can get me in trouble for baiting? Seems like a stretch of that's all the evidence they have and presumption of guilt won't bring charges. In case you all have forgotten "innocent until proven guilty". Dont really need kill plots as there isn't much around for deer to graze after they turned the alfalfa field to corn and harvested it early bow. Looking at some decent sized plots for grazing and lots of hinge cut maples and aspen around the plots. My plan for the one plot was going to be 50/50 clover/brassica my other 50/50 corn/soybean. Im going to try some diversion ditches to get some water away from the plots as it comes down off the hill. Looking ahead to this spring I need some food plots. No doubt in my mind part will be a mix of brassicas the other part has me wondering. I have wet soil and this clover is supposed to do well in wet soil. I dont have standing water but soggy with the amount of rain we got this summer. Any other suggestions I'll take them. Alfalfa is out of th question it will end up getting a root fungus and die off. White clover doesnt like wet feet so that wont work. I want it to be a perennial plot. I've decided to put in 2 bigger plots instead of 3 smaller ones. My plan is to hinge cut around the plots to allow easy access only in certian areas also to allow more light into the areas. Shot almost all my gun deer in the neck all have ranged where but from a .243 to 20 gauge. None took another step after the shot. Shot a doe this weekend in the boiler room went 70 yards and piled. Below is the blood trail. Easy to track and next to no meat ruined. First deer i shot in the vitals since i was 16 when i got my first 6 point with the old 20 gauge. Connected with a decent 2.5 yr old doe at 2pm. The wife's .243 really puts a hole in them. Went 60 and crashed, worse part about it was when I dragged her out at dark there was a buck all rutted up upwind of me. In 8f heard 37 shots so far first was at 6:32 on the dot. Big spike came up out 16" wide smaller body. 2 doe fawn button buck and 2 doe. Really want a big doe. Up to 40 shots. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

For me it's tougher during bow than gun. I think its because they have to get a lot closer and when that happens it's harder to control your adrenaline. Your movements and the shot has to be more calculated putting more pressure on yourself. Either way i love it. The adrenaline rush is unreal not much else can get me going like a big buck 20 yards from my stand. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Yup, i agree 100% we have now been doing our own AR on 200 acres and the one neighbor doing it on his 100 acres and have true giants walking around. It's been 8 years now and we have had 3 bucks over 130" some close to 160" every year. It is possible even if you only have 20 acres and pass the small ones it's worth it. I have 40 acres and pass 2.5 year olds granted some of the young ones get shot by the one neighbor brown it's down but they can only take 1 during gun. Below is a 2.5 and 3.5 i have running around. This is on my little piece of 40 acres. If you do some land management the deer will stick around. If outhouse isnt your thing you could look into one of those composting toilets. I would be burying one of those 500 gallon holding tanks and use a 12v pump with a long pickup. If you can i would pull off the bottom of the tank and bury the line or use the insulated hydronic heating line so i can use the water in the cold months. I would just bring drinking water with me. The shower and sink drians i would just run them outside onto the ground with a check valve where I wouldn't be walking around. Thanks everyone, very true the clean miss is a blessing in disguise. I'm heading out to try her again playing the wind game today as this afternoon doesn't seem like the best time to be in a tree. Im thinking that set is shot and he will be avoiding it, they dont get big by being dumb.
