  1. That was my thought because I know Marlin and Bushmaster aren't going under. Those are the 2 cash cows, H&R had stopped production a few years ago before they were talking about this. I wonder if we will start to see a shotgun under the Marlin or Bushmaster name. Kind of the same idea as Ithaca gun co.
  2. I might go the no till route, the trees are mostly quaking aspen, with a few soft maple. The aspen rot fast so I doubt suckers will grow from the stumps. I have been slowly adding apple trees and pear trees to our yard we are up to 6 total not counting the established 6 wild apple that were already on the property.
  3. I think I'll just leave them and throw some rock salt on them to kill the stump. I'm going to drag the area so it might make the old drag jump a little but should work, I'm spraying it to kill off what little growth it has. I might do a small controlled burn to get rid of all the junk, I still have time to think about all that but those stumps had me stumped. I just to get out there an finish clearing and cleaning up the 2 spots.
  4. Trees range in size but nothing over 18" across, most in the 12"-14" range.
  5. Yeah I might try the veggie oil, didn't think about that.
  6. No dice, Just getting the ATV back there is a bit of chore with no real trail. I was thinking about that opening up a trail but just getting up the hill will be tough with as wet as it is. I was thinking maybe a come-along winch and a pulley system from one tree to the other tree stump about 10'-15' off the ground. I just don't like dropping trees from a ladder (no where to run).
  7. So I am getting a late start on clearing trees from my food plots. I was planning on having it all done by march but don't have a ton of time left and no way I'll have the stumps out in time. So how do you guys get the stumps out after felling the trees? I don't have a tractor and/or backhoe, I don't have enough time to dig them all out by hand so that is out of the question. I can wait until next year but really wanted to have them ready to plant come april. Any suggestions would be great. I will have around 20-30 stumps to get out. Also I can't get a grinder back to the plots either.
  8. More money than brains I guess. Lower is still useable so he accomplished nothing.
  9. Go on the Leer and ARE websites and see what meets your fancy. I am planning on going Leer probably because they have the "Leer Locker" that mounts to the top of the cap so you have a lockable locker of stuff. Pretty neat idea for extra storage that isn't on the sides of the cap or in the bed.
  10. I have had my pickup for 8 years love having a cover but thinking my next truck will have a cap. I like having the extra room under the cap and if I need to take it off I'll just throw some 2x4's under it and hoist it off in the garage. I think if I go the cap route I'll get it with built in roof rack so I can throw some bigger stuff up top.
  11. I'm a niagara wine kind of guy or reds made from concords. I really like the Coyote Moon wines, Glenora, Bully Hill, and the wife loves the Hazlitt wines. I'm more of a beer person but nothing fancy.
  12. Well the so called school shootings aren't always "school shootings" The left tweeted something about 18 so far this year and it couldn't have been more wrong. These shootings include a lot of incidents that have nothing to do with schools that are operating, some are accidental discharges.
  13. Not that I like that number but proves a big point. Basically media playing a very large role. How about all the other "school shootings" so far this year that haven't made the media?
  14. Wow that's a nice sized basement, I can only get about 10 yards in my basement
  15. Same happens for me with the bow. When out at 50 yards the bull is small and holding it longer seems to throw my shot off more than a quicker shot. Also if I had been practicing a while and starting to get tired.
  16. If you look at the ratio it is actually lower in the states with guns. You can't just compare the numbers.
  17. Yeah an ar-15 can shoot 1 bullet and maybe hitting its mark killing 1 person but what can 1 car do after people start fleeing the school where they can not outrun a car or truck. You can mow through people killing them just as fast or faster but lets outlaws cars because they can kill people too. Again guns aren't the obvious problem it is the lack of protection in schools and the physcos that can get guns! Look at the European countries without guns what are people killed with? Illegal guns and cars. This could have been prevented but the FBI didn't step up, there were obvious problems with the kid and no one listened to the warnings.
  18. Thanks for the heads up basically a water hammer pump, not a bad idea at all. Betting longevity is a lot longer too. My house is on a hill, I'm really considering renting an excavator and digging a trench and installing a gravity drain to the ditch out front of my house.
  19. Until parents are held accountable there won't be a change, but one thing to note is he was 19 and considered an adult so in this instance I don't think the parents would play a role. I also think in this instance both parents are deceased.
  20. We used to snowmobile in that area, start in Parish near the Grist Mill and head up to Montague, Timberview, Flat Rock, Barnes Corners, Lowville all areas that have tons of snowmobile traffic. It was great making a quick night trip for wings over to Kasoag, I can't remember the bar but looks like a barn. Many of those areas depend on the snowmobile community to get by in the winter months. Big money from snowmobilers. A lot of people travel hours just to snowmobile up there, lots of out of staters. It was nothing to blow through $100 in fuel for just the sleds and another $100 on food and beverages. We would put an easy 1500 miles/season on our sleds usually 150 miles in a weekend. Longer season ain't going to happen.
  21. Yeah I think everyone on the outskirts of the ADK 's are thinking the same thing, find your way deep into the park and just stay there for lifetimes isn't going to last long when a lot of people will be doing the same thing. Just last night had me thinking with all the rain with no power and the sump pump in my basement that I am going to need some sort of back up for. It only raised a 1/2" in 2 hours so it wasn't bad but the basement leaks a little so things need to be addressed.
  22. Yeah but I want to make one of those fancy pretty hickory ones or laminate my own wood like some ash, rosewood, purpleheart, black walnut combination. I think that would be really nice, maybe only in the riser but leave the limbs a solid single wood.
  23. Yup uses a scope to compensate out to that yardage, and can be rested on something just like a rifle to achieve a shot at that distance. When you only look at arguments pro crossbow that try to make it be a vertical bow then that is all you will find.
  24. I have but never hunted with one. Not saying I would be any good with one but would still like to learn how to make them. When I finally get some free time I will have to look into. I have always wanted to learn how to make them, I knew a guy that did it and taught classes on it but haven't seen or talked to him in years.
