what is acceptable accuracy with your bow?
chas0218 replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Bow Hunting
I have been busted in a tree to have that same deer walk by minutes later not bothering to look up. I think it is about seeing something they don't know what it is and take off. It's a fight or flight reaction and a deer's primal instinct is flight. -
They had more birds of prey that took care of them.

I would like to learn how to build my own bows and arrows. I think it would be a neat hobby and you wouldn't go hungry. Granted you wouldn't have those fancy BH's but could do it the Indian way.

No doubt its the cats. I used to live across from a trailer park that was a complete dump and there were a couple people that would get cats then just let them run wild killing all sorts of game and birds. Anyway we had a problem with them getting all goofy, had a couple die in the yard from what I could tell no real trauma. I was worried about our dogs so they got the shot, I ended up burning the carcasses in the woods. I didn't know about the bleach.

I would love to use a 9mm to hunt deer and a bow doesn't have 1/4 the energy a 9mm bullet would have making it more ideal for killing a deer than an arrow. I would hunt any distance with a bow I was confident and proficient. I happen to shoot out to 60 yards and have taken 2 deer at 50 yards. One was a decent 10 point and another a doe, I would have taken the shots 100 times over if given the same opportunity. It's not about the distance that a bow can kill because they can kill out to 100 yards in the right hands it's more about what a person is proficient and confident out to not how far a bow will kill game. -

Those are great tractors for the money, higher HP numbers than the equivalent Boomer. They are the workhorse no frills line. -

One thing to look at though is the lift height vs the lift capacity. A lot of manufactures will have lower lift weights but have the bucket further away from the tractor with better reach and higher lift abilities. Having a bucket close to the tractor can be a pain and sometimes a god send depending on the task. I hate lifting stuff in the air onto a pile and covering myself and the tractor. To an extent they will all go back over the tractor hood but it's useless if you dump and it covers the front bumper. -
No, those don't but just the other day you had one about a survival rifle or something. Just poking at ya, I think most people that hunt and keep the meat are preppers in a way. We prep for the rest of the year until hunting season comes around again.
-
I'm starting to see a pattern to your topics, you're a prepper aren't you? Not that it's a bad thing, but guns would be my last worry when it comes to prepping. Fuel, heat, food, water, and security would be my last priority. Until resources become scarce you will be fine then you will need some people killing guns. Better have a good stock of hand tools, saws, and fasteners. Lots of things you would need over a huge stockpile of guns and ammo. Not saying you won't need them but lots of other priorities when it comes to staying alive.

Are you sure you need it? I have the google voice VoIP (linked below) and don't have any special service. Is this to remote connect to another phone? Honestly if you need it for business you can use the google voice and transfer your number to the google voice. Be warned though you can not transfer it back. Also allows for call forwarding to another device. My wife and I have our "home phone" (the google voice) forward to our cell phones so if we have signal or connected to wifi we can get calls from our home phone. https://www.amazon.com/OBi200-1-Port-Adapter-Support-Service/dp/B00BUV7C9A

I just called them out on it today and they said you have to be hardwired to the router and nothing else can be running off from it. To their defense there aren't many wireless routers that can run 100mbps over wifi but if you go to google and type in speed test google will run a speed test and give you the results free of charge. I ran 3 different ones including the one they recommend and still don't get the speeds they are claiming that was with my computer hardwired and no wifi transmitting. Below is what I got at work but we run everything through a main server about 10 miles away. 2nd one is xfinity speed test. Big difference based on where it is trying to access.

Yeah we looked into all that stuff and had to return the ATT hotspot because we couldn't get signal. Literally the only thing that gets signal at our house is a 2 way radio or a CB. My mother in law has Hughes Net at her cottage and it isn't too bad but they limit your speed after so many gigabits.

If i tried to explain what I thought it said, I'd would probably be wrong. -
If you are paying $64.99/month you should be 100mbps or better. I have the $44.99/month for 20mbps indefinitely or so they said. I'm sure it will change for some reason and I'll have to start paying out the butt. I can't justify the extra $20/month when everything streams no problem as it is. I watch TV for about 40 minutes a night (1 show) we bought the CBS all access app for $10/month and share a hulu account between 4 of us so it's all pretty affordable.
-
I wish we could cut ties to the cable company completely it's such a monopoly and they make money hand over fist on people. Until satellite internet is more affordable and faster I have to stay with Spectrum/Time Warner. We tried to get a land line the other day because we don't have cell service at our house and no one could tell me who my carrier would be. We ended up with the Google Voice, upfront cost of $150 but unlimited long distance and no monthly bill. Worth the money except my phone number comes up as Brooklyn NY when I call people and in a power outage I have to have internet to have any phone service or drive down the street.
-
Only catch to all these are they require an internet connection. Spectrum is going up by the day it seems like, and the speeds they are claiming ain't happening in my neck of the woods.

The best is 30 minutes after dark, not sunset but dark. haha

Those tires used to wear like iron, sucks they don't last that long anymore.

I have Kumho AT51's on my truck and they are a great tire. They seem to be lasting well and handle any snow or mud I have thrown at them. The truck is a 2003 1500 silverado 4x4. I have 8 ply on my truck and haven't noticed a ride difference between the 6 ply other than when loaded there is a lot less "wiggle" in the truck. Going to a 10 ply from a 6 ply your fuel economy probably tanked making that much of jump. Look at www.jegs.com they have free shipping and great prices on AT51. We are going to be putting a set on the wifes Traverse next year we like them so much. I ran the Firestone Destinations A/T before these and they were ok but for the price I got these tires for a lot cheaper and a size bigger and 2 more plys to boot.

You can load your own tires using windsheild washer fluid. Granted it isn't as heavy as Rimguard but a lot cheaper and still won't freeze. Not many places will load calcium anymore because it rots the rim and not very enviromental friendly. -

That was down here on the southern tier Joe Signs Power equipment in Owego had the best prices around. Jim's equipment in Campbell wasn't bad either but higher than Joe Signs. They were killer deals I wish I could have swung it. I believe Jim wanted 20k for the 4510 and 18k for the 5010 both with loaders. I was going to get the loader and backhoe attachment. I think the loader is a little bit bigger on the 5010 but don't quote me.
