  1. In the beginning of the season I usually shoot 10 arrows at 30 yards to start. At that point I decide whether I need to do a little more practice at 30 or step back to 40. If I'm grouping around the bull at 30 I'll go back to 40 take 10 more shots. If they are good back to 50 with 10 more shots. At that point and early in the season my 50 yard groups are probably hitting all over the target. I then take 10 more shots at 50 and shoot until I get 1 in the bull. Next day start at 40 and work to 50 taking the majority of shots at 50, once my 50 yard groups are decent I go back to 60 and practice the rest of the season at 50 and 60. I'll walk into 20 once and while but when you're shooting out to 50 and 60 20 seems like you're right on top of the target.
  2. I practice out to 60 yards and want 4" or better group at that distance. When I am practicing at closer yardages they seem like ship shots. I wouldn't hesitate to take a deer at 50 if all conditions were right and I was confident in the shot.
  3. FWIW Kioti sometimes run deals and you can get the DK50 series for cheaper than the 40 series. The 50 series isn't much bigger than 40 size wise either. This past April they had the DK50 series for dirt cheap when I was calling around, I could have had a DK5010 for $16k with the loader when the 4510 was going for $18k.
  4. The newer style receivers on a lot of shotguns are too thin to tap. The new 1100's and 1187's are like that and require a side mounts. My father's old 1100 has the thicker reciever and has no issues with tapping the top as it is close to an 1/8" thick.
  5. That's not saying much those 10/22 don't shoot for a crap at least the ones I have owned and shot. For cleaning I like to use carb cleaner, it takes all oils and stuck on grim off. DO NOT USE ON YOUR STOCK OR ANYWHERE NEAR IT! Wipe down afterwards with G96 then all the moving parts get a light and I mean light coat of Rem Oil. I haven't had an issue ever with guns rusting or sticking parts. Here is a link: Smells way better than hoppes too. https://www.amazon.com/G96-1055P-Complete-Triple-Action-Treatment/dp/B0000DD5TL
  6. Wow, I'm jealous of the 100 rnd. mags. bet those were fun. I'm wondering what made the other 4 guns illegal unless they aren't pictured. I only counted 6 plus the 1 stolen. Haha 1000 rounds, that's considered a lot?
  7. That's key, my 3 year old (2 1/2 at that time) was a little hesitant to come see the doe I took this year. Not sure if he was just scared of it or what. It was dark after dinner so I'm sure it wasn't the opportune time for him to see it but he warmed up to it after I showed him it was okay by "petting" it. He was all about field dressing it wearing gloves and poking the insides. I think too if they are around it young they know what to expect. I'm sure if if anyone was new to the sport/hobby they are going to have different feelings than someone that is a seasoned veteran. Nothing wrong with that I was thinking more along the lines with feeling sorry for the animal. I mean I don't like to see any animal suffer but if someone is crying over something they killed this isn't the right sport for them (children excluded). Similar to someone slamming their brakes causing an accident to avoid running over a squirrel. Watched a car about 2 hours ago go through someone's yard to avoid a squirrel....Idiot
  8. I could see a kid or an adult killing their first deer maybe crying but if someone cries every time they kill a deer or any animal they plan to eat I think they should find a different hobby. As my father and grandfather would have told me, "Nut up and be a man". Like I said a kid I could see it happening to and rightfully so but an adult after a couple times of doing it you should be able to handle your feelings.
  9. Not to mention ease of fixing/adjusting. Not many .308 semi autos out there that can be had for under $400 and shoot MOA.
  10. It's considered taxable income and with their 5 kids and themselves they get a lot in back being they don't work and get a huge tax break for being in the poverty level of income. It's a screwed up system. The above leads me to what grinds my gears, people living off the backs of others that actually work for their money. Welfare abuse, people driving 10 or more under the speed limit but refuse to pull over and let the train of cars behind them pass, ignorance on any level, and lastly people that can't do their job or refuse to do it. The latest one that pissed me off is waiting in the plumbing section in HomeDepot for 20 minutes for someone to come and some teenager tells me "Those are the only 3/8" copper fittings we carry" pointing at a box of couplers then walks away so I wasn't able to ask where some of the other copper fittings were. Went 2 minutes down the street to ID Booth walk out with something that would work, they also didn't stock much in terms of 3/8" copper but offered a solution instead of just walking away. I have worked retail at a few different places over the years and never gave only the excuse "we are out of XXXX item" and offered a solution. Today's society and the future of the human race is in big trouble.
  11. No they are just overly sensitive and think nothing should die to feed anyone/anything. They get upset when lions kill antelope let alone hunters killing them.
  12. Anyone look into those .224 Valkyrie in AR platform?
  13. Not really, take a target with you and pop off the mag. Makes it fun that way too.
  14. I like to troll for fishing, I hate just sitting in 1 spot hoping to catch something. Bass fishing is okay long as I keep moving. The only fishing show I watch is "Salmon Showdown" it's about Salmon fishing on the Great Lakes. It is geared mostly to lake Michigan but still neat to watch and hear about their tactics.
  15. I like the stalking/hunting to kill part. I mean it is the reward of the hunt along with the venison. I had a colleague call me out on my "organic red meat" saying it could have ate GMO corn or ag. I just rolled my eyes, I hunt to feed my family so killing just goes along with the whole eating thing. I don't mind admitting I like to kill mature deer and an assortment of different animals. I don't think I'm any less sensitive to death, for my family it is a way of life. I mean I also grew up on a farm where we would butcher our own chickens, deer, cows, and pigs so I guess I'm used to having to kill my dinner.
  16. Make NICS checks free and watch the amount of people do them, I mean they want to make higher education free so everyone can afford to go and have a 4 year party on my dime why not NICS too. So you think that someone "renting" a firearm in a controlled environment is the same as lending one to a friend indefinitely?
  17. I never asked my dad or grandpa if I should shoot birds nor did they tell me I couldn't. So I shot a few in my day, not knowing if I should have or not.
  18. It really depends on the gun some can get away with shorter scope rings and larger objectives, but yes I find the added weight and a taller more top heavy gun a hindrance. If you are going turrets you will want something a little closer to the $400+ range. The lower end turret setups don't hold zero nearly as well.
  19. I like redfield scopes as well as the brands you listed, if you are planning on doing some night shooting my buddy bought a 56mm trijicon and loves it. The only drawback you are going to have is the size of the glass on the rifle, anything over 40mm is overkill for a daytime hunting scope. With all of my 40mm objective scopes I can see way past legal hunting light and still aren't a pain to walk through brush. The bigger objective scopes would be a big hindrance when it came to maneuverability in the field.
  20. Metal toys? I have all my old ones and my father's old ones I'm giving to my 2 sons. I too keep an eye out at garage sales and what not for them. I don't mind paying a little more for them when I find them. The new ones are outrageous in price and not built nearly as good.
  21. I might watch the last 5 minutes depends on the score, if philly is winning then I will tune in if not I won't.
  22. As far as legalities go I have talk with several law enforcement and they told me if you can not remove the mag while in the gun assembled you are NYS compliant. He said to check they press the button and pull on the mag. If it doesn't come out you are legal. They also all told me that splitting the gun should make it inoperable and can have the mag removed at that point. They said it has nothing to do with tools or time it takes to remove the mag stop/retention device. They also went on to say if the mag can be inserted but not removed it is considered compliant. I know that sounds kind of backwards but he said it can not accept a new mag which makes the gun compliant. This is what the troopers, and town cops are doing in my area (Horseheads, Corning, Elmira). I can not vouch for other areas but they all told me if it can be removed before splitting the gun then it is Illegal with any other features. So if it were me with the ARmaglock you are best to do 2 things leave an empty mag in the gun while transporting or completely tear it down to 2 pieces and package separately while retaining the mag in the lower. Either way once the gun is assembled you can not remove the mag. IF the gun is in pieces it is considered gun parts even if you bought a bare lower from an FFL. They run a NICS check as gun parts not not a firearm. So can't call it a firearm if the federal government or any state law dictates it as so.
  23. Should be able to change the buffer spring out to a lighter one, I think you actually have more backpressure with the 300 blackout than the .223.
  24. If they do full inclusion it should be included, I would buy one to use during bow why not? Crossbow doesn't peak my interest the way this airbow does.
