Leftover DMP's are available Wednesday Nov 1st reminder

Got my 8F and 8N -
Gotta play the game. I have a spot like that they come right out of the corner of our field and head towards him. On numerous occasion I had small bucks going towards them but my wind blew them off.I could watch him stand up and get ready then the deer runs off the other direction. Also when I grab my rattling antlers and start bashing them he grabs his bleat can and goes nuts.

Not the same, the buck pictured here has the same length g2 and g3 the buck pictured above does not.

Can't go wrong with a trade job, trade workers are a dying breed and if you're good you'll have more work than you'll know what to do with and make a good deal of money doing it. The problem with a job it is just that, but if you do something you like (if you love it you won't when it becomes something you do everyday until you retire) you should be set for life. State jobs are great with benefits and retirement but money wise they aren't going to pay as well. I will tell you this always save for retirement if you don't get a pension. I know of people that have done very well for themselves but have no retirement. They will be working the rest of their lives or until they hit the lottery.

Field & Stream's "discounts" are getting very old, and probably illegal
chas0218 replied to Core's topic in General Chit Chat
Unfortunately in my case I keep vehicles for long periods of time, My current DD is a 2004 pontiac vibe with 225K miles. Only repairs were some wheel bearings and routine maintenance. I do all my own work so it maintenance is cheap. My truck is a 2003 silverado with 105k it doesn't get driven much but has had a lot of work done to it (motor, all brake lines, fuel lines, water pump, alternator). Unfortunately I ask a lot of a 1500 and my next truck will most likely be a 2500 and I can't lease a 2500 from any dealership. But the truck will barely get driven so the mileage will stay low and will end up being a garage queen with no winters unless it is very necessary. -
Makes perfect sense, I get it. I understood what you were saying the first time. I wouldn't mind doing this but the scopes I already have are BDC. I will give it a shot and see how I like it when I get that 7mm-08. Are you using a program for the charts, I would like to get charts like this instead of table.

Just looking through the Field and stream ad and saw they had $150 off the Tikka T3x Lite Stainless. I was like holy crap I'll be going in to buy one today. Well I look and it is $150 off MSRP! HA what an f-ing joke. They must be desperate for some sales. The rifle can be had all day long at $600, the TC compass is $75 off at $219 which isn't bad but I would rather have the Venture than the Compass. -
That looks like in the wind you will be replacing it.

I have a gorilla and had it about 4 years now I only use for rain, I had to re-tie one of the metal springs back onto the canopy but that was about it for breakage. I did loose the little snap pin but still works fine. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Gorilla-Gear-Tree-Stand-Umbrella-Mossy-Oak/20932720

I bought one of those battery packs that you plug into it when it's dead. Mine is from radio shack but similar to this. I leave it right in my pack warm or cold it has worked great. I charged mine last season didn't use it and had to use it this season, didn't think it would have a charge and was only down one light. Well worth it in an emergency. https://www.walmart.com/ip/50000MAh-Power-Bank-Portable-2-USB-Output-Interface-For-All-Digital-Device-white-gray/257495267?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=7728&adid=22222222227071953900&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=182799627047&wl4=pla-477746435272&wl5=9005776&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=115059135&wl11=online&wl12=257495267&wl13=&veh=sem

When you are talking effective you mean most accurate method? In a hunting situation I think effective would mean quickest with the least amount of movement. A buddy of mine has spent a good amount of money on his Remington 700 with a nice leupold vx4 and turrets but for what it takes to range adjust and shoot there is a considerable more amount of time needed compared to just holding over.
-
Vs turrets and a BDC it is most effective?
-
I get it, and you're right with your method it would work but in the heat of the moment unless you shoot often at various yardages with your method someone could easily botch the shot. I prefer to have a line, dot, circle that I know is a set yardage I can just put on the animal and be done. Also the circle is easier to see in lower light than where the vertical line of the reticle goes from skinny to thick. I guess it is all about what you're used to doing. Before the BDC and Mil Dot your method is all they had for referencing longer distances.
-
Basically the BDC is another version of the Mil-Dot. The Mil-dot reticle will do the same thing the BDC does or vise versa except the mil-dot allows wind drift calculations.

If looking at a ballistic chart for my .243 and similarly size cartridges minus the magnums there is a lot of unaccounted drop between 250 and 350 yards. My .243 for instance drops 9" from 250 and 350 just guessing where I would hold for 300 would have me miss the deer vs using the BDC where the bottom of the 1st bdc circle puts me at 292 yards. My .270 has 10" of drop, same deal.
-
Yes it does.
-
You're right in that band I'm just south of it, I was hoping to see a few flakes but nada.
-
Exactly what I do and set my range finder and binos in the case with my bow.
-
Same, But some releases don't fall out of the way or attach to your wrist. Mine has one of those webbing straps and flops out of the way when not needed.
-
Look into one of those lansky sharpener systems. I have the diamond stone Lansky it puts a razor edge on knives. Once you get a good edge on a knife use a set of ceramic rods to keep the edge. Once the blade gets nicked break out the lansky and work through the stones. It doesn't take very long but longer than the work sharp kits. I like the idea of not having to replace belts and stuff also mine will work without electricity.
-
Don't have to just helps cool the carcass faster I hang mine but not in a cooler so the faster it cools the better. When hung in a cooler it isn't worth it., they will split it if they feel it's necessary.I would recommend splitting the pelvic bone for sure it allows the hind quarters to separate. and cool much faster. If you plan on getting a shoulder mount do NOT split the sternum or you will need a new cape.

Wouldn't be Vince from the Cape Vincent area would it?
