  1. I just used Robins for an example but yes all song birds are protected in NYS. The neighbor lady feeds them after posting this and seeing the replies I counted 12 different cats at her local food shelter. Now I know of 2 cats that are peoples pets but the rest have been around longer than most the neighbors. The local shelters/dog warden wont do crap about them and I am sick of them crapping in our son's sandbox and destroying the wife's flowerbeds. I guess I will have to talk to the neighbors about it and see what they are going to do. I obviously don't want to shoot the cats but relocating them into someone's backyard isn't a solution to the problem. Long ride off a short pier?
  2. You picked up on that? But it looks like it would work better than a back pack on those hot days and lighter. I look at it as a small duffel bag.
  3. Have you looked into those game bags? After removing the hide I wrap in a game bag it is similar to a cheese cloth. It allows the carcass to cool and breathe while keeping flys off it. I highly recommend those hanging fly strips too they help with flys when the garage door is shut. I haven't had too big a problem with flies when hanging the deer, I usually let it hang overnight then I process it allows the carcass to cool before butchering. I have never had the meat spoil on me with a overnight hang. I wash the bag in the washing machine with a light amount of bleach. Granted it gets stained but I want it sterile when I put it back on. 4. I have seen this before but not as often for me.
  5. Oooo I like! Now the question is black or green? I am thinking green it won't contrast the tree as much. That looks so much nicer for archery season than my back pack.
  6. I'm not sure where to post this but the local gun shop in Corning NY is having a sale on used guns. There are a few used shotguns and rifles most shotguns were 20ga. with a couple 12ga. a youth mossberg .410, quite a few rifles ranging in caliber from .243, 7mm rem mag, 7mm-08, 30-06, I think there was a 30-30 marlin. Pistols brand wise were kimber, springfield, ruger, smith and wesson (mostly M&P's) and a few revolvers. I am no way affiliated with the shop just a local guy I usually do business with them. Now for what you were waiting for The shop is called Bullseye shooter supply in Painted Post NY. They had some good prices and some okay prices. Either way they were under retail on most guns by $100 and some of the rifles included descent glass while $100 under retail.
  7. So Culver creek huntclub posted a link to ny game laws. I have been reading through it and a section about dogs and cats caught my eye. I read that anyone 21 years of age or older can dispatch of a CAT that is hunting, killing or with a dead protected birds. I have watched the neighborhood feral cats kill robins and such so would that allow a person the right to kill a cat? I know for dogs running game it must be a LEO or so the law reads. Any input on this? I also watched one of the cats carrying around a dead baby rabbit last year. 8. Sorry yes my fingers were typing a little to fast.
  9. I have an old 7600 game master in 30-06 it has killed a lot of deer. it was originally my great grandfathers and is a safe queen now. my big woods rifle is the tikka t3 in .270 win. with 3-9x40 nikon bdc
  10. I have seen this before but it was a few years ago. If you use the online version and search through it you can't find it. I think they changed the reg to include the .22 calibers The 22-250 uses a .224 size bullet and I have seen these rounds do a number on deer. I think they rescinded that part of the regs.
  11. That elite looks just like my 2007 Bowtech Tribute, design wise not so much finish wise. 2007 Bowtech tribute in predator camo: CBE Snyper with .010 pins QAD Hdx Stock string tamer Shorty stabilizer
  12. I check the weather and if it isn't going to rain I'll take my bow, rangfinder, binoculars, flashlight, knife and release. Everything else will stay in the car/at the house until I need it. Walking in on these hot days coming up I'll be at my bare minimum.
  13. I said safety of my family and if my employer saw they could (having different beliefs than I) single me out and find stuff to fire me. I put an x next to number 1, 2, and 4.
  14. Not to mention at 10' or 15' that 5.56 is going to have a lot more energy than at 100 yards. Majority of shots taken by the military with the 5.56 aren't hail marys. They usually let the M60 in 7.62 lay down the long range cover fire.
  15. I bet the deer decimated it, also lack of rain. When you plant clover you usually over seed with wheat or rye grass then the clover will take off and it will keep the deer from hammering it to the point you have nothing in the fall.
  16. Standing if possible. I like to stand so I blend min better with the tree I'm sitting in.
  17. Good idea but I think it would educate any mature deer you are in the area. When bow hunting you want that surprise element. In the morning if you can't pack it in then I would probably do the same thing. I have hung stands the morning before I killed a nice deer there in the evening and did the same thing you do and saw big deer. The one that got away I put up the stand the night before and walked through the area where I was planning on hunting. The next morning the deer below came in like it was meant to be. He got within 20 yards and stopped behind some brush he smelled my scent trail where I walked in with the stand. Before he got out of range I pulled back and let an arrow fly. I didn't see a branch and stuck it in the ground. Later the next week the neighbor guy shot him. Too this day it will haunt me. This deer scored into the 150s gross easily.
  18. You should add a poll! I had taken a whitetail at 50 with it looking in my direction over its back. Depending on the situation I wouldn't think twice about shooting one out to 50 again. I shoot 60 on a regular basis and have 1" groups once in a while a flyer after I have shot a few arrows. I also try to shoot 4 arrows in a 1" group. I enjoy shooting and feel I'm pretty good long as I know my distances. Without a range finder I limit myself to 30 yards becuase my guesstimating gets pretty bad past that.
  19. I prefer mornings because the overnights are usually cooler and the deer are moving. Evenings are tough because they won't be moving until right at sunset. If the evenings start to cool down then I will hunt them otherwise its mornings for me.
  20. Ill bite, right 130 left 160. Guess I was off a little just saw your numbers.
  21. If I had an AR I would be shooting the .300 AAC blackout round lots more to choose from when it comes to weight.
  22. It obviously wasn't your time, glad to see you and your family is safe. Not sure what your situation but another reason why I don't live/work in a big city. This kind of crap just makes a guy want to homestead more and more. Stay safe my friend it is a screwed up world out there.
  23. Check on the eye piece usually it's etched into it. My wife's 770 looks like below. Also that scope looks identical to my wife's. Bushnell Sportsman 3-9x40 Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  24. Mine looks like a circle and is not the rubber tube type. You just need to get a twist or half twist added to your string and it will line up every time. Mine also has an angle built into the peep so at full draw the cylinder is parallel to the sight window. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  25. I have to agree if it is cracked repaired or not then I wouldn't trust it. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
