I set goals for myself every year. I shot my "buck of a lifetime" at 22 years old (161" 10 point in NY) I continue to go out into the woods hoping for that one that can out do my big 10. Now is it realistic no but a guy can dream. I hope my son takes what I do and does the same at a young age. I like to out do myself every year but that doesn't happen. Right now I am after a buck that scores higher than 137" 9 point I will not pull the trigger on any buck smaller. I would love to see my son whack a nice 8 or better 10 point but on his first hunt I will allow him to shoot anything he wants I don't care how big the deer ends up being. Long as it's big enough for him. I would rather see my son shoot his first wall hanger with a bow than a gun. Personally I like bow hunting much more than gun hunting, there is something about it I find much more rewarding. Reaching out to 200 yards and dropping a wall hanger just isn't as gratifying having that same deer 15 yds from you trying to to draw on him and getting that perfect shot.

1 year 9 months turns 2 in January. He has to do everything dad does working on the cars, cleaning guns, reloading, you name it he is in my back pocket. This coming year my father and I are planning on building an 8'x8' tower stand insulated and the works. I'm hoping to get him out with me next year but we will see. Hunting in 8F right now just got busted the wind is supposed to be out of the west and I'm sitting here getting blasted in the face facing east. It started out good but changed this past 30 minutes. There goes a west wind all evening. Too late to move now. -
You shooting a rage bh? I have heard this story to many times with mechanical bh majority being rage.

Got a little button buck on camera with his dad! Looks like the little one needs a few more years. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Sitting in 8F north of Newark it has been raining most the night and into this morning until about 20 minutes ago it had been off and on. Saw a doe and yearling around 7am but nothing since. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk -
I am hoping for some bigger deer on my other camera. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

I have this camera setup on the edge of a corn field and had a couple small bucks that will be in a couple more years for the 3 1/2 and hopefully 3 more years for the 2 1/2. Also for those of you that have a tough time identifying 3 1/2 and 2 1/2 look at the pictures below there is a significant difference in facial and body structure. Hold up did you say Bush was worse than Obama? You must be sipping that Kool-aid. Bush actually gave a damn about the country compared to the poor excuse for a president we have now a group of terrorist attack the USA on american soil guess what he did he went after them. US attacked on american soil during Obama's administration what does he do, that's right blames gun owners! Let me know at what point Bush divided the country by race and quadrupled the deficit. Mr. Obama had 8 years to straighten out the so called problems Bush created and has done absolutely nothing to make this country better if not he made it worse. What exactly did good ole Slick Willy do for this country, yeah I can't recall much either?

yup they don't hold nearly as many as they say, a lot of manufacturers will count handguns in the total capacity unless listed separately.

I'll have to check my cameras this weekend to see if I can participate...I think you would get your entries needed with a raffle more so than a BB contest. Would you be doing the entire deer season (archery, regular, and ML)?
-
I'm pretty sure I could do that, make it 3!

Yeah I would like to think people wouldn't do that but how many times have you been in the stand and hear a gun shot when it is still dark during gun season especially opening morning? All to many times for me. -
Would you be willing to sell at lower price without the glass?
-
That or a hot doe, but seems a littler early for the rut.

Make sure if you guys get aren't using an absentee ballot form it is shredded or ripped up in some way to prevent someone from digging it out of the trash and turning it in. I got one yesterday and threw it on the fire. Just another way for someone to screw you out of your vote. Not to mention if you go into vote and end up voting twice you can be in a lot of trouble.

Then again I don't want someone taking pop shots in the dark because they get spooked from a squirrel or coon. I could definitely see someone getting a little overly paranoid. Although if I heard something large around me I would start talking to it to make sure it wasn't another person, but what happens if the person is deaf. Had an amish guy wandering the woods one year as I was in my tree stand I started yelling at him and he just kept walking around. Finally he saw me and started talking he was obviously deaf not only for the way he was talking but he used his binos to read my lips. -
If he is 12 or 13 he can not participate in the youth firearm hunt but can go out using his bow. Even though it is the youth firearm hunt he can still only use his bow tag and can not use the regular season tag because he will be bow hunting not participating in the youth firearm hunt.
-
He can not use the regular season tag during archery unless he is participating in the youth firearm.
-
From how the law reads it says 1 deer and bear during youth hunt. If your son fills his youth firearms tag then that is it no more firearm hunting after filling that tag. That means 1 deer and 1 bear, he can not shoot another deer with a firearm. He can go back out with his bow and hunt and shoot another deer but not with a firearm. If he takes his bow a field then he is no longer doing the firearm hunt and the firearm hunting regulations do not apply. Junior Hunter Mentoring Program Youth Firearms Big Game Hunt 14-15 Year Old Hunters Can Hunt Deer and Bear with a Firearm Over the 3-day Columbus Day Weekend The Youth Firearms Big Game Hunt will occur Columbus Day weekend (October 8-10, 2016) Resident and non-resident Hunting license holders aged 14 or 15 may participate in the youth big game hunt. Junior hunters may take 1 deer and 1 bear during the youth hunt. Junior hunters may use a Deer Management Permit (antlerless-only), Deer Management Assistance Program tag (antlerless-only), or a regular season tag. During the youth big game hunt, junior hunters may use the regular season tag for a deer of either-sex. The youth big game hunt will occur in both the Northern Zone and Southern Zone, except in bowhunting only areas and Suffolk County. During the youth big game hunt, mentors may not carry a firearm or bow to pursue deer and bear. Rules for 14-15 year old junior hunters and their mentors outlined below, including blaze orange requirements, also apply during the youth big game hunt. The antlerless-only requirement for the October 1-15 portion of the early bowhunting season in several WMUs does not apply to junior hunters participating in the Youth Firearms Big Game Hunt. Any deer or bear taken during the youth firearms hunt count toward the annual bag limit. No extra tags will be issued for this hunting opportunity.

Yeah I have the pardner and it is an 870 copy and this is similar to the 1187 so I figured for a fraction of the price why not?
-
I wonder if the fly can with stand our colder climate? I sure hope not. Crazy stuff.
-
If I'm not mistaken the regular season tag for youth acts as an either sex along with the bow tag. Not to be confused you can not use the bow tag during the youth big game hunt and the youth is limited to 1 deer and 1 bear. Right out the regs Junior hunters may use a Deer Management Permit (antlerless-only), Deer Management Assistance Program tag (antlerless-only), or a regular season tag. During the youth big game hunt, junior hunters may use the regular season tag for a deer of either-sex.

Yeah technically he was, I'm with you but I think they are just trying to use it as leverage against poachers. If someone is in the field with a rifle or pistol while "bow hunting" could they be poaching deer? I see why they have that rule, mostly to be able to distinguish between potential poachers and people actually bowhunting. If it wasn't illegal I would carry my pistol in the field just for instances like some have mentioned possibly even a bear or the mountain lions/cougars that aren't in N.Y.
