I think you will be on her perfect that will be the week +/- a few days I am in the woods everyday.

I wouldn't shoot someone over a tree stand but I sure wouldn't mind catching the SOB that did it. I would however have no problem shooting someone breaking into my home while my family is there. I have no problem with someone that wants to protect themselves from harm.

We have a few small scrapes around but nothing compared to last year. Last weekend saw some small bucks chasing doe around. I saw a nice 8/10 point 120"-130" wandering around behind my stand 35 yards out but too small. I have a big boy lurking around it's just a matter of time before he screws up.

what caliber got your first deer
chas0218 replied to 45/70's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Remington 870 20 ga. bird barrel with iron sights and modified choke. I shot a lot of deer that way then upgraded to a hastings rifled barrel with rifle sights. A little longer barrel but out to 200 yards that thing could drive tacks! I haven't touched that gun in years being able to use my rifle in 8F and being my rifle costs less to shoot. My grandfather refused to buy sabots and shot the rifled slugs out that same barrel and is just as accurate. Only thing you have to remember is to use a lead dissovling agent the barrel gets leaded up pretty quick. -
I saw something about an X stand they are supposed to be the lightest climber in the industry. I think they are around the same price as the summit. Here is the link to the stand. https://x-stand.com/product/the-x-1/ Here is the link to their site. https://x-stand.com/

Technically in NY whether there are signs or not it is considered posted.
-
Maybe you could do one of those not posted so I thought it was ok kind of deals. I mean make an effort to ask but if you can't get a solid NO then I would think it wouldn't be a problem unless it is NYS DOT land or gov't owned then I would recommend staying away. My buddy almost got several tickets for fishing in a DOT pond that wasn't posted, marked, fenced, nothing.

Yes and no if you just pop it up in the middle of a vacant field or right on top of a trail then yes you will be picked out everytime. If you setup 20 yards from their travel corridor or just inside a field edge you will likely not have a problem. The same goes for still hunting you can't be right on top of them expecting to be able to move/draw your bow.
-
Buy one of those pop up blinds? That would help with still hunting.
-
Yup that was it. I didn't remember what it was called anti-freeze or not just what the container looked like.
-
Couldn't you use that stuff that isn't corrosive but still keeps ice from forming? I think it is pelletized but I can't remember its chemical makeup.

Technically doesn't Texas allow a person to shoot another? Texas also allows a person to use force and deadly force to protect the personal property of a third party. The use of force is permissible if the person believes that the force or deadly force is necessary to prevent the commission of theft or criminal mischief, or if the person believes that the third party has asked them to protect the property, the person has a legal duty to protect the property, or the third party is the spouse, parent, child or under the care of the person using force. https://www.uslawshield.com/portal/texas-gun-law/

Haha I wouldn't ever do any of this just feeding the fire a little.

Maybe you could carry a Taurus judge with rubber buckshot or rock salt. I think that would work.

So I wonder how that 2 week kill only doe is working out

I don't think anyone said the farmers have it easy or are blaming them I think they are blaming DEC. I mean the amount of money shelled out to farmers to in is the 10s of billion for subsidies. Not just NY that is nationally. -
The problem is NYC actually only the western end of long island. They majority liberal and also make up 67%ish of NY population so either way we are screwed by them and the state will be blue as always no matter how many Rep. vote. Look at the governor election map.

They DO want to take your Firearms.

I just got word that they finally appealed the 7 round mag carry and you can legally now carry a full mag! NYSRPA had the details. -

I am betting the latter of the 2. -
This is what I have seen for the past 10 years. The only way to really know is to go along with the surveyor and make it as you go. We used white exterior paint along with the ribbon on the trees as we went with the surveyor. We had an issue with loggers taking logs on our property so we wanted to be compensated for the logs they took.

Of course they did because they probably promised something for re-election. It's all crooked. Other states are looking better and better all the time. They need to remove that leach NYC from the rest of NYS everyone would be much happier. -
At least it might deter them a little, especially knowing someone is watching. I thought a few bear traps would impact their decision maybe even a few chunks of wood with nails poking up thru at the base of the tree. Tons of possibilities. Trip wire with paint would be neat too. Enjoy: Here is an article that goes with it. In the article the guy states he knew it was just 8 feet on the other guys property then says he didn't know the logging road was on the neighbors property. I mean this is a little extreme but they sell paintball mortars. If my stand is stolen again this year you bet I'll have a ton of those mortars setup on my stand with some 6lbs. braid. http://www.deeranddeerhunting.com/articles/deer-news/painted-deer-hunter-to-have-trespassing-ticket-dismissed-landowner-also-charged

Same, it makes you feel violated especially on private property.
-
Sounds like you need to a have a half twist added to your string. Not sure how your bowel movements tie into shooting but hey if it works there are weirder things people do.

10/18 AM continued--> Well I had my opportunity but let him go. I had a nice 8 or 10 point at 35 yards stopped I drew then just let him walk away. I saw a bigger buck on our trail cam, I might have shot myself in the foot but I'm happy to see the smaller guys still around. The guy that hunts on the neighboring property told my step dad he won't be out as much as last year(he only went out 5 times as it was last year). I can't wait until this weekend when I get another crack at the woods. I am really looking for a doe right now we will see if it happens. I will continue to update this thread throughout hunting season so keep an eye on it guys I'll update with chasing and what not. No real fighting between bucks yet. I did see a couple younger 2.5 y.o. sparring a little and chasing doe. They are just young and ready to get it in no real sign of the rut yet. I actually only saw 2 scrapes the entire weekend over a good chunk of property. About 1 square mile worth.
