I used to skin them warm but then you have to deal with a lot of that sinew if you wait for the hide to absorb some of the moisture out of the meat you will have less of the sinew to deal with.

I'll probably be in our swamp or in the creek bottom. It really depends on the wind. I may end up sitting on a plowed field where deer like to cross the corner. I'll have my Tikka .270 in hand but there are only a few places that I could really use my rifle on our property but it cost over a $1 more a shot to use my shotgun. I do have a couple nice lanes that reach across a field but they seldom use the field for travel during gun season.

I think we have hit the pre rut lull in 8x and 8f I have only seen a few fawns in the last week when I went from seeing 3-8 mature deer. It's getting there.
-
I drag them away from my stand only because I want to be able to hear deer coming in and the crows are too loud to allow me to hear them. Also the amount of coyotes in the area I would rather them not be by my stand or property.

If there was a fishing season then I would already have that all off...Life of a teacher. Not that I'm bragging, well maybe a little.

By the amount of trespassers some years I think ours is!

Honestly do it in the rain or just before it. All your scent will get washed away before the deer get into the area. I have cut branches during the day just after my morning hunt and have killed some nice deer. Last year I hung a stand after my morning hunt cleared lanes in my t shirt and jeans sat there that evening and killed deer. The deer in the photo was just that scenario, early bow in the northern zone. I was also hunting in the clothes you see nothing more.

Yeah across from my house I live in a tight valley and yet it is windy it isn't as bad as the flats just to the north of me. Unfortunately the river near my house is high and the deer will likely bed on the river bank instead of crossing into my area like usual.

Quite impressed with my rifled slugs in Mossberg 500

Or invest in a lead sled. I bought one on black friday and although I only use it a few times a year it was well worth the money. Sighting in the .270, 20 gauge 870, .243 and 30-06 all at the same time makes my shoulder feel much better at the end. -
How about this for a scenario, my watch battery is going bad and is off by 15 minutes as I thought I was in legal shooting times. Does that make it legal? I am sure all of you watch wearers sync your watch every day before you go in the woods to make sure at the strike of sunset you un-nock that arrow or unload that last shell/cartridge. Or on that note load your gun once in the stand and only at the stroke of sunrise. Give me a freaking break you guys are nitpicking this. Hunt how you hunt and the other guy will hunt how he hunts legal or not.

That's not a caparison, would you have shot that turkey at 12:09 on your walk back or perhaps just as you were packing your bag? That's like saying I saw a monster at 8pm in my yard and as the motion light came on I shot him 3 hours after legal shooting time. Not the same, lets compare apples to apples.

Truth About The NRA For Uptown Redneck

Twisted cause? Is that what you call the constitution? -
Does it have the savage accu-trigger? I hate that trigger you really need to shoot one to see if you like them. My father-in-law swears by the triggers but a good trigger isn't supposed to have travel before it goes off. Only reason I would buy one is if I was a super recoil wuss because you don't know when the gun is going to go off. But my tikka with a 4lbs. trigger is surprise enough for most.

That 770 shoots just as good as my Tikka. I must have gotten a good one it shoots sub MOA 3 shot groups. I can clover leaf that gun. If I tried to sell it I wouldn't get crap because of those reviews. That 783 looks to me to have the 700 action but I am not too sure. I wouldn't think they would take a 700 SPS barrel and action and throw on a full plastic stock and cut the price $300. I mean it would make a lot more sense than to go through a complete re-design of action and stock for a cheaper rifle. The other thing I am not a big fan of is the Matte finish it rust very easily. Maybe if it was a cheap enough gun I would throw some of that rust-oleum bed liner on it then it wouldn't rust and be super durable.

last night i saw a small spike that was it. No chasing or anything in 8X, I will pull my camera card after work and see if there is anything on it. I won't be in the woods until this weekend lets hope something big makes it way towards my stand.

The scope is a banner the lowest end bushnell. They aren't complete junk but I would replace with higher quality glass I did that on the wifes 770. I have been looking at those 783s but for a couple hundred more I could have the 700 sps. My next rifle I think will be another tikka or howa 1500. Tikka uses the Sako barrel and howa 1500 action. They are a silky smooth action I feel they are smoother than my father's and my friends 700 bdl. I'm not sure what remington has done differently since the 90s but I feel the best quality remington firearms were produced prior to 1990ish.

Thanks guys. I think my wife will be a little happier too getting a little more help around the house. I do enjoy watching him crawl around and getting into mischief, he always likes to go in the garage while I work or "help" me split wood out back. My wife gets a kick out of him because he will sit there in his little coupe for a couple hours just watching me split wood or work on the car. For a 10 month old he is a pretty easy baby.

Yeah the wind down there has been horrible! I can't wait to get some consistent wind and none of this swirling crap.
-
Tried this with a smaller sight housing and i couldn't group a set of arrows under 8" my groups increased 5 times their normal size.
-
Next time twist it at the arrow nock. Now that you have your deer go into a bow shop and have them throw in or take out a half twist in the top of your string and it should fix your peep.

In the market for a semi automatic rifle

The mini 14 doesn't compare to the stag arms ar-15 platform. -
Thanks, kind of a bummer but maybe gun season will treat me well.
-
You need to get that doe on your property.
-
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it back to my property until gun season this year. I just need to spend some time at home with the wife and 10 month old son so I will be hunting the rest of bow season at home. Kind of bitter sweet as I love hunting our farm but my son needs me around and my wife could use the extra help. So it looks like I might not be able to seal the deal on a P&Y unless my buddy's property has some deer I have never seen. Gotta get my priorities straight. Might end up being a tag soup kind of year.

No I agree but I would find something else to do at camp if I were traveling that kind of distance.
