I used to hunt all day but I never saw anything past 10am as it was. I don't waste my time anymore sitting all day. I have done it 3 years in a row by last year I said it was for the birds. I sit for the first and last 4 hours of light.

that still doesn't mean it wasn't sunrise.

No someone had mentioned 3.5 years old and the one I shot last year was 3.5 y.o.

Mine: Tikka T3 Hunter .270 Win. Nikon 3-9x40 BDC HOT handloaded 130 grain nosler ballistic tip boattail. Wife's: Remington 770 in .243 Win. Redfield Revolution 3-9x40 handloaded SST 95gr. I might take the wife's 770, I love that little gun light and packs a punch.

I haven't seen any big boys yet but I think it is starting to really gear up this week. I think they will definitely be up and moving.

That was last years deer.

That makes perfect sense thanks for the comparison.

Alright he had me stumped I saw his body from the stand but wasn't close enough to get a good look at his face but then I saw his trail cam and he had me second guessing. I told my dad either way we needed to let him walk he will be a nice up and comer. I saw a 1.5 year old 7 point with all sorts of junk around his brow tines this past weekend if he makes it the next few years he will be a nice looking deer. I talked with out neighbor that butts up to us and they are letting everything 120" or smaller walk so I guess in the 2 square miles between us and him we are doing our own management and hopefully it pays off.
-
What would you say he scores? I was thinking 100" maybe 110 depending on his spread and mass.
-
I honestly thought he was older than 3.5 I saw him while in stand and he has a big sway back. With the genes on my area a 3.5 looks like this. I think that guy is on the downward side age wise looking at his facial features.
-
Looks to me to be 5.5 our older just judging by his head. And even a scrub buck will eventually get big enough to shoot work antler restrictions.
-
Thanks, I wanted a changing table so he was vertical to us changing him, it's so much easier. We find something similar we looked about 2 years ago but can't find it anymore. Wife found it originally on pinterest.

I think my wife got them from LTD commodities. I'll double check with her.

Do this next time. Take your hand holding the pipe and press it out flat against the side of the rib cage with hand fully open flat. Then take the knife hand rotate the knife so the blade is towards the opposite side or towards the brisket slowly reach in trying to keep them as far apart as possible once your hands are same depth (you should feel the back or your hand against the other) reach up further with the knife hand cut down and away from your hand while grasping the pipe and pulling. I have used this method since I was 14 and never cut/stabbed myself. I also don't use a machete (not saying you were) sized knife to gut my deer. 3" blade is plenty for me.

I use the wrist high latex and when I am done I grab the heart and turn the gloves inside out around the heart then throw the heart in my pack. Really that is the only reason I use them instead of remembering the freezer bag for it.

8X saw a small 4 point but no chasing last night. Hitting it again tonight hope they are chasing each other around my stand this time. Last weekend they were chasing each other around but still only skippys from what I could see.

That's a stud!

Wow in our area we used to have flocks of birds in the 20+ range (2 years ago) now they are in the 6-10 range. Here is a photo of what I'm talking about. Look at the date.

Numbers are down because predator populations are higher.
-
Nothing like the feeling of letting that arrow go.
-
Not sure but mine have been in the tree for 3+ years. I just unscrew it a little at the end of the season each year.
-
For those that feel they have high numbers and need to thin the heard. My father in laws neighbor called DEC and told them the area he hunts (8N) and has no more DMPs left and they sent him 2 more.
-
You and me both. Although I think he will want to hunt and fish he will be brought up around it as my wife hunts along with both sides of the family. We have a few plans this summer to get a 2 more hunting shacks built so when he is smaller he can enjoy the comfort and warmth of an all day sit. Not to mention he can bring a few toys with him. Some of my favorite memories were missing school to go out hunting with my father on opening day and the day after.

For anyone that wants to know how those "magical" numbers are calculated for DMPs http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/47743.html Here are your DMP numbers per WMU: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/30409.html From what I understand you can call DEC and get more tags if you feel the need. Now for those that complain about low deer numbers. Don't hunt the deer or only take MATURE bucks if you have to shoot a deer. Do this later in the season to ensure they have bred a doe. Other than that you will need to find another area to hunt. There is no other way around it DEC will do what they want and that is the harsh reality.

I euro mount anything over 100" but under 136". My wife said that if I get another full mount it has to be bigger than my 2nd smallest. I have a 122" 10 point I shot that I got mounted. Only reason he got mounted was because he was a 50 yard shot with a bow.
