Yeah that is next year's x-mas gift from grandpa and great grandpa. I was going to get it this year but they already called dibs on it. I was going to get him the bow hunting too but for some reason they don't discount it for younger kids. That will be the best $325 spent. Even if he doesn't want to hunt the fishing license alone will pay for itself in 10 years. We have a cottage up on Chaumont Bay so I would imagine he is going to fish especially with my wife and I spending most our summer fishing. Either way it's a cheap investment for him.

Yup this just occurred to me.

How Many 5.5 Year Old Bucks Have You Killed? (and older)
chas0218 replied to Lawdwaz's topic in Deer Hunting
Mine was mostly made into burger except the back straps. -
Is there enough room to throw in a food plot? It might really be worth your time and effort if you did especially if there aren't any green fields or ag fields around.

Haven't updated in a couple weeks. I went out last weekend with nothing to show except a broken arrow. On Sunday 11/1/15 the deer are starting to chase a little more still no big guys yet but I know they are there. I did manage to get myself a doe last night 23 yards quartering away hit lung and liver. The deer expired about 20 yards from the shot even with my little 75gr. fixed blade BH. Looking to get back at it Thursday maybe the temps will drop a little more. This weekend doesn't seem like the best hunting weather but it will be THE weekend to be out.

Yup walmart usually has tons of them.

I usually boil first then pressure wash, it comes off very easy using the pressure washer. I also pay the $2 in quarters to to use the car wash one. I had a few funny looks but I don't need all the brain matter in my driveway to get tracked into my house or garage. Not to mention my dogs like to roll in stinky stuff. Antlers aren't effected by the pressure washer or boiler unless you add peroxide or bleach. I would rather use the peroxide paste to whiten the skull versus sitting in bleach water or peroxide. The Peroxide paste is the same stuff hair salons use to bleach hair. The peroxide also doesn't continue to break down the tissue after it is washed away unlike bleach.

Same thing happened to me last year shooting at a bear sitting down. I whacked my leg with the limb and drove it into the ground about 4' low. To really torque my shorts it was a 500lbs. bear. Freaking HUGE!

Across my lap or on a hanger over my left shoulder.

Last night was the first night I actually heard chasing. Unfortunately I could not see what was doing the chasing. I saw a small 6 point earlier that evening but was on a mission to get out of there.
-
The morning is supposed to be upper 30s lower 40s so they will be moving for a few hours in the morning afternoon might be good too. I haven't seen a lot of chasing a little with the smaller bucks but they have been for the last week.

I would be looking for where the food sources are and bedding areas. If you are somewhere between you should be good or you have the bedding area or food source on your property. Just look for sign.

I have yet to shoot a coyote with a gun not saying I wouldn't. I have shot 3 in the past 2 years with my bow and enjoy the challenge it brings. I have one of these so called mixed yotes on my trail cam or at least did until I deleted it. It was actually what my grandfather called a "blonde" coyote. Very large and a orange colored coat and the gray and black tip on it's tail. I had some pictures 2 large fox on my camera but this was no fox.

Looks like it was breed with a domestic turkey. Happens pretty often with free range birds. Near our cottage there is a farm that the lady has turkeys and a number of the wild ones look like that.

Had a guy that put a permanent up and hunted there for several years and was only 50 yards from my stand. Eventually he stopped hunting there after he didn't see any deer because of my wind. Almost always had a SW or NW wind either way I just kept hunting it. If you wanted to be mischievous about it shave some cheap stinky soap and throw it at the bottom of his tree. We used to do this to keep bucks away from our fresh saplings.

You have a trail cam in that area? If so when are the deer running thru. My stands it varies on the time they come thru so it's a crap shoot.

DEC Timber Rattler Snake Den in Bath, NY - Video
chas0218 replied to HectorBuckBuster's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
The only good snake is a dead one. Snakes don't scare me but I sure don't like to be surprised by them. That big boy would sound like a maraca rattling in the woods looking at the size of the rattle. -
Hooyman Saw extendable versions
chas0218 replied to chas0218's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I saw that but really wanted something I could throw in my pack. I have a hand saw but for the size and weight the hooyman isn't much off. -
Ballsy or genius. If he wasn't there he would not have known the neighbor was trying to hunt his property. Would have loved to see the show. Is it really only $25? It should be closer to $100 plus surcharges.

Hooyman Saw extendable versions
chas0218 replied to chas0218's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Yeah I was reading reviews on cabelas and there were about 3x as many good to bad reviews. I have one of those fiskars 14' deals but hate to lug that back and forth to the stand. I always seem to miss branches when trimming in the summer. -
Hooyman Saw extendable versions

Anyone used one? Pros, Cons? My grandmother wants to get me something for x-mas so I was thinking of the 5' version. I have seen some mixed reviews and wondering if anyone liked them or should I think of something different.
