I have a green foam seat cushion I've used for the past several years. It's starting to look a little ragged around the edges, and won't fully decompress anymore. I will keep my eye out for a deal in the offseason. The ThermaSeats sound nice, as recommended in a recent thread.

That's an interesting story. How does the beagle handle the deep snow? I guess your beagle is light enough to not sink in when the snow has a crust on it?

Showshoes have been mentioned a few times lately, and there was a thread about gear recommendations 3 years ago. I have a more basic question of how and when do you use snowshoes when hunting, particularly deer hunting.?Is it when the snow is more than x inches deep? Is it just to get to and from a particular location, then you take them off? What sort of terrain do they work the best/not work? Flat is good, too steep is not? Yesterday i trudged through a good 5+ inches of snow that fell overnight. It was a bit of a workout walking to the treestand, and I wonder if it would have been worth it to use snowshoes. Thanks.

What is the recommended minimum and optimal distance to set up downwind of your wiggly and caller/speaker, assuming you are set up on the ground in a flat field? My land is overgrown, but I did brushhog foodplots that never got planted. One in particular may possibly be big enough to set up in. Thanks.

I visited the Henrietta store today. They had Field & Stream clothing at 50% off MSRP. More interesting, they had many tree stands 25% off. I picked up some Hawk Big Denali 20' treestands for $155. I am wary of the mesh seats, which all treestands seem to be going to, but it generally gets good reviews. Other than that, nothing notable in the way of clearance or sales.

I screwed up and did not mail in the MIR in time. I just realized this today, in fact. The 4 cameras from F&S only arrived about a week ago; the MIR form was due 12/13. I thought I had more time. I think I will keep them anyway. I want to put them up high, and the solar panels are really nice for that. For the one I've had for a year, I haven't had to change batteries yet. If/when I get more, I don't know. Maybe there will be some other deal in the Spring. I had originally intended to not deploy until the Spring, but maybe I will get them up sooner. Not sure right now.

Time to call it a season and head home.

Did not see any deer today. However, I did get to meet Niagara county DEC ECO Matthis. He stopped by just as we were finishing getting dressed by our trucks. Nice guy. We chit chatted for a bit, then he asked to see licenses, muzzleloader tags and that our muzzleloaders were not loaded. No issues. I have the suspicion he was bored and lucked out when he saw some hunters at 1:00 p.m. on a Monday. Whatever. I am glad I got the chance to meet him.

Moisture in the bag can affect the seal; not your fault or cheap bags. What I do, which seems to work, when I have excess moisture in the bag is to put a piece of paper towel on top of the food in the bag. The paper towel absorbs the moisture so that it doesn't reach the seal.

I just wanted to confirm that the Honey Hole is not a strip club. The capital letters had me suspicious.

This season, a guy I was hunting with hit a buck in the high neck area and the bullet ricocheted up into the skull (as best we could tell). It ended up causing the left eyeball of the buck to bulge halfway out. We called it the Marty Feldman buck.

At the risk of getting verbally beaten like a pinata, if it is close and still, would a back of the head/neck shot be a better option than the Texas heart shot? Maybe it's just my Sicilian coming through.

fwiw, there is an exception for a caliber smaller than a .22. That's why I got a .204, you can use it the full coyote season. again, fwiw.
