  1. I think you need to think about how you frame the situation and approach the landowner. If you start with the approach that you and he have a mutual problem--tresspassers, and then you offer him a solution--you posting the property, I would think he'd be open to it. To me, there are two different things that could mean: 1.) To post and hunt the property. (If so, I think you need to offer hunter insurance, with the landowner as an additional insured, along with rent), or.2) you just post his property just to keep out trespassers, but you don't actually walk on, or shoot into, the cornfield. If he is liability sensitive, he may not want to giver permission to hunt, even with you having insurance. Won't know until you talk to him. I'd ask him what he'd wants. Let him through out the first number for rent, if at all possible.
  2. Every time I see this thread title I think, "What a great name for a porno movie." Maybe it's just me.
  3. Yes. IIRC, it wasn't required when I first got it, but was required for the renewal. Erie county made me go to some company for fingerprints. Wonder how they got the contract . . . .
  4. Look, just because you had one bad blind date . . . .
  5. I got my non resident Florida and Utah permits before I got my NY permit. Unless they changed the rules? It was several years ago.
  6. tip. You can go to wunderground.com, select city, then under the radar image click "Webcams". It will show nearby webcams to get a live view of ground conditions.
  7. @sodfather There is a lawyer by the name of Peter Vasiliion at 8845 Sheridan Dr @ Shimerville that might be able to help. I've had limited dealings with him, which went well. His website is http://www.pvasilionlaw.com/practice-areas/pistol-permit-matters/ The google reviews are surprisingly mixed. Not sure how much stock I would put in them, however, given my positive dealings with him.
  8. Happy new year, all. May this year be better than the last.
  9. Happy birthday, fellow bushcraft affecionado!
  10. That must be the weirdest/hardest part about trapping, when you have the animal just sitting there and looking at you . . . . @Water Rat How much is a bobcat pelt go for on the fur market? Or will you have it mounted?
  11. @TreeGuy is a man of many talents. How's his cooking?
  12. Are you making it in an oven or dehydrator? I used to make it in the oven, then my wife bought me an Excalibur dehydrator. I find that the drying is much more gentle and uniform in the Excalibur. Woot has them from time to time at a good price.
  13. Forgive me if this has been addressed in the past. Given the key words, it's difficult to search. What is the deal with leaving stands on public land? (ladder stand, climber stand, hang on, etc.) What are the technical rules? What is done in practice? Are there different rules for state land vs. federal forest, et al? I thought that in general, it is not allowed, but I also remember reading something about a stand has to have your name or tag number written on it. Just curious. Suppose addressing this issue would be helpful for people new to hunting on public land.
  14. I have visions of an Amish barn raising--with lots of beer.
  15. Welcome. FYI, things get a bit slow and, err, interesting, in the offseason on the forum. Your good questions will help keep things on track. Will you be hunting on public land?
  16. May you always be wooly in all the desired places. Happy birthday!
  17. Please accept my condolences. Please cherish the time you have left with him.
