  1. We’ve seen two timber rattlers on the property and one dead on the next road over. But that’s over a 35 year stretch. All in the middle of summer.
  2. Wow, glad you didn’t get hurt worse than you were!
  3. Not a bad lager - go Bills!
  4. Damn, Wooly - you just keep getting better as you go. That’s a great carve!
  5. Not sure on how to answer the poll. Took an xbow doe from a ground blind and a rifle buck from a ladder stand. Doe was my first deer from the ground in quite a few years. Was pretty cool.
  6. You gave it a good effort. It does happen, but it looks like you had an impressive streak! Good luck today, get some redemption. @blackbeltbill - you’re a good sportsman!
  7. That sounds like a dead deer within 200 yds. Can’t just go in with flashlights? nvm, just saw your comment above. That sucks, but daybreak is ok, right?
  8. From the posting activity here, reports of other camps, and reports of processors filling up, it sure seems like there may be a measurable uptick in deer take this year. Archery season seemed busy, especially that one banner day that a bunch of us on here took deer. A guy I know that processes deer around Cortland said it was his busiest archery season. The last few days were busy here, and other hunting folks I know are posting and texting great results quality and quantity wise. We had a good year, and so did the neighbors, and by no means did we decimate the local herd. Still many fine bucks from the fall trail cam collection are still on their feet. TF posted about the 200 deer at his local place and the place our son in law uses turned his away as they are full. I talked to Jim at Hitching Post Meats yesterday and he is near full. We’re bringing 4 bucks to him this evening - thanks @Hitching post meats ! I have a feeling the DEC is going to report a near record take this year. At least from some areas.
  9. Congratulations! Just read the harvest post - great buck and great story!!
  10. Daughter Stephanie’s buck; This is Steph’s 7th year hunting. She travels from Delaware each year for the rifle opener aka deer week. She hunts harder than my wife and I and she earns her deer each year. She’s gotten six bucks in those seven years and has yet to shoot a doe. She and I went out tonight, me in the tower stand for the first time, and she sat about 600 yds away watching our hidden field, where I took my buck Saturday afternoon. She had a doe and a fawn out feeding for a while, and this guy came sniffing around a little after 4:00 pm. She watched him for a while and took her opportunity. Double lung, but his death run was about 150 yds before he crashed. He left a blood trail that Stevie Wonder could find. Easy track job to say the least. Red x is where she sat, yellow x is the shot. Deer went about 150 from the shot, 120 of it into the woods straight up. We’re a happy deer camp! Mom, Dad, and daughter got bucks. And granddaughter Evie got to pet each one.
  11. Daughter shot an 8 point tonight! I’ll post in the harvest thread.
  12. Out for the afternoon. Far tree line is 400 yds. First sit here for me this year.
  13. My wife Doreen’s deer: She went to the tower stand this morning and daughter went to where I took my buck yesterday afternoon. She only saw one doe before this guy dropped in from the north woodlot. She could see him going across the goldenrod and waited til he made it to the mowed lane. Buck stepped all the way into the lane but walked away from her. He eventually turned quartering away and she hit him at the base of the neck. Dropped him in place, never moved. 260 yard shot, 7mm-08 from her Ruger. She was in what we call the redtail stand, the tower that’s over her shoulder in the background of the pic. By far her furthest kill shot. I’m super happy for my sniper wife! Daughter is up next.
