on Trout Stream Management in New York State Two Meetings Scheduled for Late October New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced today that two public meetings will be held in Region 8 this fall as part of a series of statewide meetings on trout stream management. The meetings will provide an overview of the state's approach to trout stream management and elicit feedback from anglers regarding their preferences and expectations for the management of trout stream waters. The meetings will feature a 30-minute presentation by DEC Fisheries staff describing current management practices for trout streams and will include key findings of a statewide study completed in 2015. Following the presentation, meeting attendees will have an opportunity to provide input and feedback regarding their preferences and expectations for the management of trout streams. Happy anniversary to both of you...probably have a good two weeks before things pick up in the woods so enjoy. Mine is the second week of November. Poor planning on my part but my mind was on something else when I should have been thinking deer hunting.

Hunted this morning & didn't see a thing...that will be it for me til the weather cools down a little. Don't know how you guys do it but I wish you the best of luck. Hunting when it is warm just don't seem right to me.

How Old is that Deer? As deer season approaches, hunters are scouting the deer they will be hunting this fall. Estimating their age is important for making informed harvest decisions. For antlerless deer, the primary question is whether you are observing a fawn or adult. While yearling (1.5-year-old) bucks are relatively easy to identify, estimating the age of older bucks can be more difficult. To learn how, see DEC’s Guide to Aging White-tailed Deer in New York. Allowing yearling bucks to survive an extra year may enhance your deer hunting experience, especially if your hunting partners and neighbors are also passing on yearling bucks. With more older bucks around, hunters tend to observe more scrapes, rubs, sparring, and chasing, and they have a greater chance to bring home deer with more meat and larger antlers.

What a beautiful morning! 39 degrees with a touch of frost in spots. Jumped 3 out of a field on the way in. At 7:15 had 3 bucks and a doe come across the field to far away. A nice big 8, a nice basket 6, and a super wide short rack that I couldn't count the points. Saw another doe @ 8:15 about 200 yds. away in the soybeans and another doe in the neighbors field on the way out for a total of 9 deer. Heard a flock of turkeys, saw/heard geese flying, and didn't see another hunter. Good start to the season. Best news is the neighbor was not in his stand when the three bucks and the doe walked right under it.

Never got mine this year so I guess I will just be keeping track for myself. I keep track every season anyway.

Willing to help out if I can.....Hunting 8h, 8n & 8m but can travel if needed. ATV on hand to help get one out. Not to bad at tracking and have had a lot of practice finding my father's who can't shoot for sh....

The logical assumption would be since the recertification is not complete that would be a felony and felons are not allowed to have any type of firearm. Haven't you heard: Gun owners in New York are presumed guilty until proven innocent.

Seems like most archery shops are good at the sale and fall down on the service.....probably because they don't make as much on the service end. I went there once for a string job and one other time for parts. They wouldn't even talk to me when I mentioned the word Mathews so I haven't been back. I have had good luck with this one and they are usually willing to help. A little farther to drive but not a lot.
