    The End

It ain't over yet...I have til 4:44pm Friday and I plan on being out if weather permits. Now with the next season starting Saturday....that may be another story.
  3. Hit the state land just west of H/F on 15
  4. Amen...what most don't realize is the tracking ability is just as important as a good responsible shot. Most don't take the time. I have seen hunters go in the general direction they shot; shake their head and walk away. I and a couple others on here have tracked the rest of the day and gone back the next day and more. If a deer is shot it is the hunters obligation to follow up on that shot to the best of their ability and beyond or call in help. Tracking ability only comes with experience and unfortunately there are not enough around willing to pass on their knowledge and in today's world if there isn't an app for it forget it.
  5. One step at a time and follow the re-hab instructions. GOOD LUCK and keep us posted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yx9xO98kcBU
  6. Just my two cents First and foremost I am a bow hunter. I also hunt with a gun and have shot a lot more deer with the gun than my bow. The major difference between gun & bow season is it requires a lot more skill and quite a bit of luck to harvest one with a bow. Unless you are a spot & stalk hunter the only real skill required after the first fifteen minutes of opening day is the ability to be able to shoot straight. Bow hunting requires the hunter to get relatively close and in order to do that there needs to be a little bit of knowledge of the whitetail and the area that has been selected to hunt. A significant number of “gun” hunters only hit the woods on opening day and maybe a few days during the season. A good majority of “gun” hunters I have encountered do not have a clue about anything except where they are going to sit on each hunt and some are not sure about that. When I set in the woods during gun season and hear the number of consecutive shots I shake my head knowing that more than likely the deer was missed and got away or wounded never to be found. I personally hate to see gun season come or should I say see bow season end. Do bow hunters have an edge as far as when the season is…ABSOLUTELY but that doesn’t mean they are more successful. One reason I don’t like gun season is because it has a tendency to shut everything else down. Guys with dogs have a tendency to not run them because landowners don’t want hunting until “after the first week of deer season” or the entire deer season; or the possibility of loosing one or having one shot. Trappers tend not to trap during deer season because of land owners not wanting them on during deer season or having their traps checked and sets ruined because of deer hunters. There is nothing like the experience of getting in the woods early in a spot you feel confident in and when the sun comes up to see another orange jacket not 50 yards away only to find out it is their first time there. Or you have settled into your spot for a long sit and have someone or a group come marching through. I don’t think it is the “gun” season that everyone is against as much as the kind of stereotype hunter that has been portrayed over time. I personally would support one deer season with the same dates as now, with the number of tags to be determined by DEC. During that season take a deer(s) with the legal implement of your choice. Take it any time during the entire open season with your legal weapon of choice and be done with it. That may do away with all the hoopla and craziness that goes on the “opening” day of gun season.
  7. Thanks...now I know what to get the woman for x-mas.
  8. Before I head back out just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS. That is a very nice buck. If I shot one like that I would be sitting out the gun season also. Put your feet up and enjoy your accomplishment....You deserve it
  9. Yes..I sight in at 25 yds. and raise or lower accordingly just like I would with a single pin sight. More than on pin is to much for me. My Mathews is a pretty flat shooting bow and the hold over or under is so slight it doesn't warrant having extra pins. But then again I am not trying to make 40 or 50 yd+ shots. I seldom practice beyond 35 yds. and have never made or wanted to make a hunting shot that far. Just my preference.
  10. Works fine for me but am considering going back to a one pin site if I can find one I like. The primary draw back on these is you have to remember to turn it on before making the shot. The are also somewhat of a challenge to sight in because they are mounted sideways making the right & left adj. your elevation and your up & down is used to adjust your right & left.
  11. I have one of these on my compound
  12. Spoken by the man that uses the "texas heart" shot to fill a tag.
  13. Good Luck...I am sitting out a couple of days for the weather and some rest (I hope)
  14. It is part of who I am. When I am not hunting I am thinking or reading about hunting. And after a few days of not hunting I get really grouchy. I hate to see the seasons end and the thoughts of next season is the only thing that gets me through the lawn mowing, bug scratching, sweat your tail off season.
  15. Looked on last week...bucks with does, bucks trying to cut in, and daylight movement. This week has been completely dead and having a tough time just finding tracks less than three days old. I just have to figure out where they are having the party.
  16. So what seemed to be and should be the middle of the rut after 14 hrs. of sitting in stands in the last four days. Not a deer seen. Scrapes are not being worked, no tracks. or sign of any movement. They must be have found a new place to get it on here in 8H.
  17. I absolutely love mine. No Gloves, light gloves, heavy gloves, it doesn't matter. The do make one just for loop shooters
  18. I for one will be voting yes because after reading the state constitution I see some areas for improvement. The big one for me is the ability to re-write the constitution to restrict term limits and to limit the Governors authority. Will it ever get done? Can we trust our elected officials to do the right thing? I seriously doubt it but at least if it is passed it may get some of them thinking.
  19. Nice sit this morning. 35 degrees & light wind. Had a beautiful tall 8 point broad side at 50 yds. in the cut bean field. Could not coax him in. Hunters all over the place but he stayed between them all. It is the 2nd wall hanger I have seen in two days. When I got back home the idiot neighbor is out mowing again Back out this afternoon before the rain & wind hits tonight & tomorrow.
  20. The chart is meant to be a guide not the gospel. Each area is different but usually they are at their prime by Late Nov. early Dec. Easiest way to tell on a coon is to look at the guard hairs. Buyers like the dark colored coon with long guard hairs.
  21. Full Mon is Sat 11/4. It will be the second full moon after the autumn equinox "quote": The closer the rutting moon (second full moon after the autumn equinox) falls to November 1, the more intense the rut should be. Looking ahead, 2017 and 2020 should provide an exciting few weeks of rut hunting. This year the rutting moon falls on November 4th and they are calling for a “synchronized” rut with peak activity occurring around November 7th and continuing until November 14th. The seeking phase is predicted to begin around October 26th, the chasing phase to begin around November 7th, and the tending/breeding phase also known as “lock down” to begin around November 15th. A synchronized rut occurs when three things align around November 1st – doe estrogen levels peak, bucks testosterone levels peak, and the rutting moon occurs near November 1st. According to their moon theory, synchronized ruts are by far the most intense in terms of rutting behavior and activity.
  22. If you are in Westchester I am about 5 hrs. away....south of Rochester
  23. It is on in 8H. As I looked out over my field this morning watching the rain hitting the windows a nice four point and doe come out in the field. Every move she makes he duplicates and doesn't let her get more and twenty yds. away. After a half hour another buck comes out and heads toward them but the first buck will not let him get close and stays between the doe and him. Watched them for about a half hr. then the second buck left. A little later I see another buck crossing the field with his nose on the ground searching. This all happened between 9:30 and 10:45.
