Nice bird congrats

The thoughts of some gun hunters converting n changing things some times is real. In my state you can't even hunt some places cause of the crossbow drives. Yes it's their right but others equally. If Id never allow my hunting to affect you Id love to see that both ways. The cocking the crossbow thing is not correct that you can do w bad shoulder they sell cranks to pull string for you. Crossbows do have pros n cons. I don't think they'll affect things much because of the cons as long as they don't allow bait like other states do cause that negates much of em. What guys may not be thinking is a gun hunter mindset is different than a bowhunter, getting 20 yards from a deer isn't instantly easy so they'd have to learn just like others.
-
I'm saying I don't prefer crossbows n have no problem saying it, just like you can like crossbows n have the same feeling without my attacking you that's all.
-
I don't like crossbows for a multitude of reasons but my point is we can all have different wants n likes n still respect the others opinion. Crossbows excluding bait have pros n cons n imo are not much of a game changer alone. There's people who'd like to see us pay for drugs so animals can have safe sex they are the enemy not the guy next to you wearing a hunting license too. Fight for what we want n when things don't go our way we suck it up n keep at it. Fight positively not w attacks on each other
-
Ah see what I'm saying? No fights guys have at what you like, but don't ne upset some disagree. That's my only point.
-
I do shoot a recurve. Sometimes a compound, even shot longbows a bit, they personally never suited me. Guess kinda like a side by side shotgun. Look cool but I shoot better w a over under.,
-
Lol not trying to fight w anyone. Just showing another angle n how we all gotta not beat each other up for differences
-
Everyone is entitled to an opinion but it doesn't make any of us right. Now I'm a bow guy. There's no cross in it. A crossbow should be cross gun, it certainly more fits the description. Lots of guys myself included are aging, we have bad shoulders, etc. If someone is truly disabled they should be allowed to get a crossbow permit. Same for juniors or seniors. BUT to go on the offense of others who disagree w your views is ridiculous. To say people wanna get back in it, how many have lowered the draw weight, can't see anyone that can't draw 36lbs n carry a heavy crossbow around, or shoulder it, how bout ensured they weren't over drawing? What about softer shooting bows such as Elite? If you're for the things it's your right to fight for them, no one should bash you either but remember it is bow season n to many that doesn't only include arrows. There are other options like allowing rifles during bow season for those afraid to cut their fingers, what about those can't track n need animal to drop in its tracks? How bout those that medically can't be in sun, we should allow night hunting? Lots of foreigners can't take the cold maybe a summer hunt? We can all find excuses to suit our causes n cry discrimination when things don't suit us. Liberals taught us that, let's not behave like them n respect each other's opinion even when we disagree
-
Why don't they do management type hunts in some areas that might need it. Give out extra permits for small areas, oh n make sure guys have access to those areas. To hammer does in one area to still have places nearby they can just step onto will never help. Imo let em be.

Chris just something to think about. Birds are up or just about up at 4:45. No faulting you but they seem more sensitive to noise n prone to blow up by that time. At 4:45 you can hear the songbirds so in essence the birds are up. If you've seen them awake they don't instantly gobble or yelp. It's all just some things to consider. A few weeks ago I was arriving at my spots around 3. Maybe excessive but Id rather sleep in the woods after taking time in than start a morning off not the way I wanted. An option to try if it's close enough for you is roosting them so you know where they are. Either way best of luck rest of season

Think about something guys, there's many ways to do things but why is it folks walking around at almost daylight or w lights bust so many. Imo if what you're doing don't working change tactics. Can't do anything but not work for you. Worth shot.
-
No lights is how I go or teach others going in. You go real early n when you get close just a step at time like deer. You're slow so you don't need light imo. I often see birds roosted in dark n some of the cows farms my daughters n I hunt we walk right under even climbing fences. Now that's 3 of us 2 young. It works. We even sometimes set blinds n we can see birds. All about stealth.
-
Chris you're going in way too late or w a light. Imo changing those things youd be right in em
-
I've seen two. Both together n both this winter

Congrats nice bird!

Birds are still gobbling in New Jersey some of the Jakes even gang gobbling. The very first quiet day I heard in New York was Saturday but wound up seeing three gobblers 1 hen so the birds were there. Know how tough it's been on some. Time is almost up hope it changes for you all
-
This is what I referred to as ghost deer earlier
-
Nj only has back yard deer. Where you can hunt you don't see a track. They're using harvest data to determine how many deer are in area. EAB has caused many ghost deer to be checked. Unlimited antlerless has decimated herds. The state had an emergency meeting w federation of sportsmans clubs bout it
-
Omg NJ did it n they destroyed the herds. They added dif weapons, EAB, unlimited antlerless. Terrible
-
That's awesome!
-
That seems to make perfect sense yet Ray Eye swears birds respond better most of the year to dominance. It also doesn't account to birds going nuts toward fights, even when only males are present. No disagreement just devils advocate and more to discuss/think on

Dif types of aluminum. Not sure what Rick uses. There's anondized, sometimes called slick aluminum. That can slip n cause bad notes. You can chalk striker for grip or scotch brite it. Raw aluminum which Id use scotch brite on, have a call with this new stoned aluminum. Runs great. Looks almost flaky but eventually gotta also be conditioned w scotch brite. Bead blasted is imo the easiet of em all since it cleans only w alcohol swab, tends to run damp m not be very fussy. Aluminum is prob my most used surface, BUT get a good one. Have seen good made by a factory yet though it is possible. Just a fyi so someone doesn't run out n grab the first bargain call they can find n realize it's squeally
-
Aluminum calls are one of the best surfaces. Used one from another maker 2 times since I had it. One longbeard one Jake both taken by youth hunters. A dif aluminum by same maker resulted in my younger daughter spooking bird in range by trying to swat bug away. Older daughter had gun up n ready to shoot when this happened. Aluminum works. Could tell you stories all day long about the surface. Seems to make em gobble when they really didn't want to

Wondering if he eats chicken? They're almost vultures. How bout crab or lobster? Perch? The worms in them (perch) come from goose poop. The list goes on n on. To each his own but I've never once made turkey for someone even who doesn't normally eat turkey that didn't love it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion though

Amazing how different things can be. I've called atound 50 birds for newbies n have no idea how many I've taken myself so there is some history w birds. Even the two posts above are very different. As analytical as I try to be understanding animal behavior and many years of being at it I just find it crazy the differences in experience even in some longer term guys with similar history
