  1. Fletch - I've never used 3 but might try. Mine definitely shoots better dirty but seems to throw one every 1/4 or 1/5. Right now I cannot trust the reliability.
  2. thanks for advice but I pulled out the old Rem 870. I took muzzleloader to range this morning and very unhappy with the consistency. Group 3 decent and then throw one. Cannot risk errant shot at crucial moment.
  3. In PA, during deer season, had a rabbit come running through woods for no reason. About 10 seconds after it cleared, a weasel came through and caught it. I got to see and hear the entire kill. It was very cool.
  4. Curious what powder/bullet choice fellow triumph owners are using for max accuracy. I use 2 trip 7 pellets with .250 grn TC shock wave bullet. Accurate but likes to throw one occasionally. thanks for input
  5. I killed one 8 yrs ago in full velvet. It didn't have any nuts.
  6. I've shot them (grouse) on the ground with .22 and shot birds flying. Just got new GSP 1 1/2 and I'm having blast hunting pheas with him. Haven't hunted birds with a dog since I was in my teens now 40s. I have been bow nut and forgot how much fun it is to work the dog you trained working birds. Shoot them sitting/flying - just enjoy.
  7. I've used Doc's method for yrs. after you cut hide/head off - guts pull right out working from head to tail.
  8. The PA pump - Rem model 7600 or 760 (if you can find one) in 30 06
  9. preorbital on the licking branch - try kischels mock scrape kit. has everything you need - WORKS!!!
  10. I have 2 that came with Field/Stream Hang-on-Stand. They are free - give me a shout. I'm Hamburg/Eden/OP area south of Buffalo
  11. Got 8 pt on trail cam making scrape and have found a few others this wk in NY. Got wet in PA for the archery opener and did a little scouting. Found more rubs in PA but no scrapes.
  12. Great bows - I know a rep for the company. If you need any info - give me a shout.
  13. Anyone else have a dog that loves to eat fruit? My GSP jumps up and eats 3-5 apples/pears a day. Worried about him getting the runs, but no problems.
  14. No matter which day you're in the tree with bow - be mentally ready to shoot that monster. Opening day 2 yrs ago saw monster and wasn't ready because wasn't in "kill" mode. Never know when it might happen. Good luck all - PA opener Oct 1!!!!
  15. How many guys going to PA for the archery opener Sat? See you in Clarion County, PA. Good luck !!!
  16. Thanks for the info all. Me and Jr. have had several sessions at the range with the 243 and we are ready for the PA opener. Personally never shot 243 - I started at 12 with 308. Virtually no recoil. Agreed 9 yrs may sound young to some, but PA has come up with the great idea which implemented several yrs ago - mentored hunt. Any child may hunt regardless of age when the mentor believes them to be ready. The idea is to hook them early before they are lost to other interests. Started my little guy squirrel hunting at 7 and it was terrific. Love seeing the excitement in the kid's eyes. Wish NY would adopt similar program so I can do same here.
  17. Great buck - if you pass this - WOW!! In WNY this is a shooter. Pinwheel him
  18. I agree with GMan - That's what friends are for.
  19. Try this for your own home-made cover scent: gather white/red oak acorns and remove the tops from all the acorns - next smash up the "nut" portion of the acorns and boil down the contents. After boiling down once or twice, pour into spray bottle and you have acorn cover scent.
  20. thanks again - he's really got the bug and I don't want to kill his spirit with recoil
  21. Looked at the 7mm 08 but afraid of the recoil. Heard in the shorter youth model that it kicks like a mule. Thanks for the info.
