Ny like other states in the NE are experiencing a decline in turkey #'s mostly due to loss of habitat. Check with the local chapter or state chapter of the NWTF, we are currently in the process of developing a plan to go forward called "Save the Hunt, Save the Habitat"... where each state works to improve a set # of acres and increase hunting #'s by a projected amount... If you are a turkey hunter and not a member of the NWTF, you should really think about joining... It is a GREAT conservation org. and they truly have a plan to make things better in your state.. I know we have done amazing things in my home state of Ma...

Seattle never should have been that close.. the catch that got them that close was insane luck... So the last call is mute in my mind, Seattle got super lucky with that catch then super bad luck with the interception.. I hunt deer... Try to shoot 3.5 year old deer as a min... I shoot mostly does because guys that hunt my area shoot the first legal buck that walk by... But shoot a mature doe is a challenge for sure... So yes, I hunt for the fun but also to fill my freezers so I would continue to hunt

As does my state... I just think it is honestly the best "hour" of hunting that is being given back... If you want to stop at sunset, fine, but those that want to hunt should be allowed with so many other states showing the same or better safety with the 1/2 hour before to 1/2 after... But again.. Government will drag their feet, leave well enough alone and nothing will probably change.. like my state and the dumb 2 buck tags and no doe permits without drawing in the lottery... 1960's deer management... frustrating..

In the states that do go before and after, I'm thinking their safety records are as good or better than Ny's now so I'm not sure how anyone thinks it will somehow magically be different in Ny.

Personally.. my home state is 1/2 hour before to a 1/2 hour after... Still plenty of light for safety... If you don't feel like you are being safe, you should stop hunting and leave... But I'm not sure if NY will ever change that law..
