  1. When the deer will be close, a little carbine is what fills the need for me. I still hunt with the Kimber 7mm-08 most of the time, but close range hunting is still a lot of fun too.
  2. Wrong. Not fighting hard is how you will lose them completely. Let the law prosecute and penalize criminals. That's how you fix the problem. Most of the gun laws on the books today are not being enforced. The criminally insane should not be walking the streets at all, but the law was changed to allow them to do so. They can kill just as easily without using a gun if they can't get one. That's the problem that needs to be addressed. Regarding your loophole comment, anything that is being done that is outside the laws in your state, or federally applied, is not a loophole, it's a crime. Perhaps you could give me an example of something that is being done that isn't a crime.
  3. I'm amazed people think the gun control infringements listed here are "common sense" and actually state they are. If you do some objective investigation into each of the above ideas, you will see they are ripe for abuse, which is why they are being pushed so hard. Universal background checks require complete gun registration and can have the criteria changed so almost anything can get you denied. Mental health criteria should be added to NICS but we saw Social Security recipients denied 2nd A rights because someone else was designated to handle their money for them. Gun show loopholes are a myth. Every law on the books applies to gun shows as much as they apply anywhere. Giving an inch would be disastrous, for all responsible gun owners! To support any of these so called "common sense" gun control schemes is obvious evidence one does not know anything about their potential for abuse. Any elected rep who would be willing to support any of the above infringements on 2nd A rights deserves to be removed from office for violating their oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. It pisses the NRA off, because they are the premier pro gun advocacy organization in the US that has the most expertise regarding the anti-gun agenda. That's why the anti-gun groups are so venomous in their attacks on the NRA. Gotta convince their sheeple the NRA is the devil, in spite of all the evidence to the contrary.
  4. I can't wait until the current Dept of Justice starts arresting these lawbreakers and putting them in prison for intentionally violating Federal law.
  5. After hunting deer with the M1 Carbine, I used a friends Ruger .44 Carbine (the older style) and took one buck with it ( at only 5 yards too ). That got me hankering for a .44 magnum carbine, but I didn't care too much for the Ruger. Mainly because it only held a few rounds and was quite fat and heavy for a carbine. It was then that I decide to get a Marlin .44 magnum lever action carbine. Now that is a really nice little carbine for deer hunting. Today I have decided my lightweight carbine needs are satisfied with my little Rossi Heritage model .357 Magnum lever action. It's a never ending pursuit of the right tool. I've been hunting 48 seasons come October 2018 and I'm still not sure I'm set up right yet. Sure is fun working on the goal though.
  6. I'm surprised most on here are only thinking about bow hunting. I think a 12 yr old should be allowed to hunt with an adult, but think they should start with small game, maybe ducks too, then work their way into deer hunting with a firearm, then move on to archery after they've mastered deer hunting with a firearm. The skill sets a child needs to learn about hunting are best learned starting with small game. Safe firearm handling and shooting skills are easily learned there and there is enough activity to keep a kid interested. Moving on to deer hunting requires knowing a little about deer and what it takes to hunt them. There's a lot more to it than just being a good shot. Once a kid proves they are a deer hunter, they can test their deer hunting skill with the tougher challenge of archery for deer. I'd be afraid a kid would become bored with bow hunting if that was the first type of hunting they experienced. Plus they could easily get discouraged with it if they were never able to get off a shot with their bow, or ever get close enough to a deer to even take a shot. I think the best way to get a kid interested in fishing is to take them out for sunnies and let them catch a lot of them and get real excited about it. Seems to me the best way to get a kid into hunting would be to take them out for something that allows them to take a few animals and get real excited about it too. I'd choose rabbits and squirrels to start.
  7. It's a good carbine too, but is much heavier than an M1 Carbine. The old ones also had a tubular magazine and the gun only held 3 rounds I think. The newer Deerfield carbines use a detachable magazine, but they are still pretty heavy for a carbine. Might just as well get a Ruger Mini-30 in 7.62x39 and have the power of a .30-30 that weighs what the .44 Carbine does. It doubles as a SHTF rifle too because, like the M1 carbine, it can accept large cap mags if needed.
  8. I have an M1 Carbine and have killed deer with it. You can buy factory loaded 110 grain soft point cartridges to hunt with. You can also find, or reload, 110 grain hollow point bullets in it, but they do not penetrate well enough to deer hunt with IMHO. I prefer to use my own hand loads. They are max loads using 110 grain soft points. They will reliably kill a deer with a well placed shot out to 50 yards. This round is very close to the ballistics of a .357 Magnum fired from a rifle with an 18" barrel. But will penetrate farther due to it's .30 caliber diameter. The M1 Carbine does not have enough energy past 50 yards for me to feel it will effectively take deer beyond that range. It does fill the need for a fast handling light weight semi auto for deer hunting when you are hunting where the shots will be less than 50 yards. I see 5 & 10 round mags for sale most places M1 Carbine mags can be found. It's a fun little firearm that will also work very well for home defense here in NY when using a couple of 10 round mags. It's a rifle the anti gun idiots in this state have yet to find scary. One last word on it. Just stick with the peep sights it comes with or upgrade to better ones. Scoping an M1 Carbine is really useless, as it throws off the balance, slows it's handling, increases the weight a lot and isn't needed for close range work.
  9. I like this little 10mm job. https://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/2018/1/16/tnws-new-asr-rimfire-22-and-tactical-asp-10-mm/
  10. Just Cuomo's way of reminding everyone you are subject to his control. What you believe is a right is actually a privilege. Don't comply and they will come for All of your firearms, not just your pistol. That seems to be the plan from the beginning. If they say you did not recert, it will be guilty until you prove you're innocent. Good luck with that. This is going to be a big issue in NY state. The US Constitution is invalid here under Democrat State control.
  11. That explains this flag then
  12. Is is mostly always about drugs. Gang bangers get the majority of their money from drugs. Some from selling guns and some from hookers. They want more territory to sell more drugs. The point is, attack them and the so called "gun violence" will drop to near nothing. I would also like to point out Leftists are always concerned with "gun violence", but couldn't care less about any other type of violence, much of which they support when it's aimed at conservatives or destroying the country.

    911

911 dispatchers will try to get as much information as they can from the caller. The more you know when you call 911, the more help you can be. I cannot fault them for asking for more information. If you know what they want to know, great. If not, they will get more calls about the same emergency from many others soon. Everybody calls when they see a collision. BTW, I never refer to an vehicle collision as an "accident". It was a collision, since somebody did not have control of the vehicle they were operating. That's no accident.
  14. If this dumbass runs for POTUS, the only thing it will prove is the Democrat's agenda of high taxes, big government, gun control and collectivist progressive BS, is a huge loser in the eyes of most Americans. He'd go down against Trump's re-election like an anchor thrown overboard. That won't stop him from allowing NY state to prove what a stupid ideology it is.
  15. On 2nd thought, who needs a rifle? The PMR-30 makes for an amazing bug-out-bag pistol, and I think this is what first attracted me to it. B.O.B., kit bag, woods/survival gun, truck gun, whatever. Admittedly I don’t even have a B.O.B. put together, but I still like the idea of it and the PMR-30 would definitely live in there if I did have one
  16. It's a good reproduction of an M1 Carbine, but the price is high IMHO. I have a Plainfield Machine M1 Carbine from the 70's that I customized with a full Mannlicher style stock. It is a great all around close quarters rifle that has enough power to kill deer if the shots are kept within 25 yards or so. Not as short as some carbines made today, but still a lot of fun to shoot.
  17. I had a CX4 in .45 ACP once. The trigger was so bad I sent it back to Beretta for repair and it was returned just as bad as it was prior to shipping it out. My brother's 9mm CX4 has a better trigger, but still feels like crap in general. The .45 carbine is good for close work, but the bullets drop too much for longer range shots at small game like squirrels, which may be your most available food source in the wilderness. Plus, they really damage a lot of meat if you can't place really accurate head shots. It's a neat little carbine, but needs improvement. Beretta has lots of work to do on it, but I don't believe they are doing any.
  18. Define "if my life was on the line". The US Air Force used to give survival rifles to pilots in order for them to survive when their lives were on the line. It's not supposed to be a combat arm. It's supposed to be one that is best for a universal purpose, with the intention of allowing you to stay alive. A little instruction in how to use it to survive is all that is required to be properly armed until rescue.
  19. Gun Control is all about CONTROL. If it was about crime, it would be about controlling criminals. We all know they are not even remotely affected by gun control laws. Leftists feel freedom is dangerous and perceive the freedom to own firearms as the greatest danger. Make no mistake, if Leftists ever succeed in eliminating the freedom to own firearms, they will "move on" to all other freedoms Americans possess which they feel are dangerous, such as speech that Leftists hate. I hate Cuomo, but cannot do anything about him directly except vote against him. What I can do is challenge any moron I run across that supports him. Engaging in a debate with one of his supporters and making them look like a fool is the best thing I can do right now. I just wish I could literally slap some sense into their lame brained heads.
  20. If you are in a true survival situation, where you're alone and trying to stay alive until rescue, this would be a good choice. AR 7 in camo. It will fill the need for food and defense, yet is compact and light. You can also carry a lot of ammo in very little space. I wish it was a .22 magnum, but it will do well as is. https://www.henryusa.com/rifles/u-s-survival-ar-7/ Now if we're talking about a weapon for a total societal meltdown, I'd also be carrying a VEPR in .308 with a detachable scope and a Glock 21 in .45 ACP.
  21. OK, I'll grant you successful rebuttal to that one paragraph, as well as some credit for the invasive species paragraph. How about addressing the rest of the post?
  22. Doe density here is low and few doe permits are given out. The spindly racked deer are aged to be 2 1/2 years old. The current consensus of the residents in this county, is that the antler quality will not improve over what it has been, due to the lack of good nutritional quality browse. That is based on the fact the antler quality was far better when there were far more working farms around, supplying far better browse for the deer. The processing shops see most of the deer harvested in this county, and hear about any good bucks they don't get. They have been doing they're work for decades and have data to back it up. There is a huge difference in results regarding antler quality, when looking at the statewide deer population vs deer populations living in a private co-op enhanced location. I have no objection to QDM management by private concerns, but the evidence indicates it is not effective when done on public lands by just controlling what can be taken. QDM is a lot more complicated and involved than that.
