  1. Only legal immigrants should be allowed into the country. All illegals should be deported no matter how long they've been here. All legal immigrants should be subject to a period of probation. I favor 5 years. If you can integrate into the US and become a productive tax paying member of the US, you can get permanent status. If you cannot do that, especially if you become a welfare/food stamp parasite, or create problems for the rest of us, no matter what they are, you fail probation and you are deported. If you have to earn US residency, and know before hand what will be required, you will value your life here. If you are allowed to come here and are allowed to claim victim status, demanding handouts and preferential treatment, you will never believe this is a great land to live in. It's not about where you come from, or what religion you believe, or what culture you were raised in, it's about your attitude. It's the attitude of many immigrants that productive, patriotic US citizens can't stand. If you cannot strive to enhance the quality of life for everyone in the US, like we all should be doing and have done for decades, you are always going to feel people here are against you. They should be. United we stand.
  2. I hunt Delaware County. We've had AR's for a few years now. I talk to a couple of deer processing shops and they feel the deer don't have bigger antlers than before. They say they see no change in the deer brought in to cut up. I suspect the reason has to do with the quality of food available to deer here. It's mostly woods and mountains. Fewer farms are growing things that would improve antler quality. Without really good nutrition, antler quality isn't going to get better. I see a lot of 6 and 8 point racks that are really spindly and thin. I wouldn't call these "quality" racks. I also think there are many deer with inferior genes that are not being removed from the herd, therefore they are out there lowering the quality of the gene pool in this AR area. Not many bucks are needed to keep the does pregnant every year, but if the genetically inferior deer are allowed to walk, they will be doing a lot of breeding and actually hurting the quality of the racks in the area. I do not feel the experiment is working, based on what I've seen. I was willing to support the experiment in the beginning, but after giving it a chance, I've concluded it is a failure.
  3. I assume you use a .50 caliber front stuffer. I've shot a couple of yotes with a 7mm08 and it didn't put much blood on the fur. Take them any way you can. Not enough hunters do.
  4. The 30-06 with 150 grain bullets would be your best choice.
  5. I would like to see some data regarding the estimated # of yotes inhabiting NY State in the 1970's vs the estimated # that exist here now. I'm sure the current number would be a huge increase over the 70's. How anyone can believe that isn't negatively affecting other game populations in NY State is beyond me. All other factors affecting game populations in NY are pretty much the same. The only major variation that I'm aware of is the yote population. Not only is the yote a major predator, it is also an invasive species. What other invasive species has been allowed, even encouraged, to flourish? One has to question the reason that is the case. I support bringing their numbers back down to the level of the 1970's. Anyone object to that?
  6. When you use conventional jacketed lead 140 grain bullets in the 7mm08 and switch to Barnes copper bullets, you do well to go with the 120 grain Barnes bullets. They will be the same LENGTH as the 140 grain conventional bullets. This means they should perform the same in the accuracy department. But you also take advantage of lighter recoil, with higher velocity, better penetration and no fear of lead particles in the venison. Personally, I wouldn't consider the 140 grain Barnes bullet in the 7mm08 unless I was after large game like Elk or Moose. It's offers less velocity than the 120 Barnes, so doesn't shoot as flat, but does have more in the penetration department and retains more energy at a distance. The twist rate in the barrel would also need to be fast enough to stabilize the longer bullet, if accuracy is to be acceptable.
  7. Hunterton County NJ is a very rural agricultural area with lots of food for bear to eat. Most of the NJ bear in that area swam the river from PA and found NJ to their liking. There are very few dump locations for bear to frequent in that part of NJ. The bear meat I've had from those bear is good, since they mostly eat crops. They do have some really big black bear in northwestern NJ.
  8. NJ's new Gov is a total idiot. ALL the citizens of NJ are now F'd, not just the sportsmen. BTW, a man was already killed by a bear in NJ a couple of years ago. It was in a forest area that doesn't allow hunting.
  9. Plenty to choose from if you look. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=coyote+taking+deer+fawn+to+it's+den
  10. Happy Veteran's Day to all of our veterans. I hope it's your best one yet. Your sacrifices ARE appreciated!
  11. One mistake NY coyote supporters make when discussing eating habits, is failure to study only NY yotes. Our's are not the same as the western variety that consists mainly on small animals. Our's are a coyote/wolf hybrid that is about twice the size of the western variety. Often coyote research from across the country is cited to claim certain things about NY coyotes. When that is done, it's either naivety, or an attempt to hide facts.
  12. Speaking about the people who study coyotes, I recall the DEC released info a few years back watching one coyote den, with 4 pups in it, that had 16 fawns brought to them by their mother during the time they were in the den. They had it all on camera.
  13. That's interesting, considering some of our resident coyote aficionado's are convinced they have virtually no impact on deer populations.
  14. Don't think Coyote can kill deer with ease? Watch. http://www.dailyzone.net/news/coyotes-kill-a-whitetail-buckvideo/
  15. Vote No! It would be a huge expense to taxpayers to have a convention and it would be dominated by special interest groups that may or may not support your views. I have not seen any proposal by people who want a convention that would benefit any of the state's average residents as far as increasing our freedom and liberty, or putting more limits on government overreach. If anything, the proposals would give the government even greater power to abuse the citizens. The convention is mostly being supported by leftist groups and Democrats, whereas Republicans, pro-gun groups and conservatives are opposing it. That should tell you all you need to know. We need to work on eliminating all of the corruption in Albany before we get into changing the state constitution. BTW, you will have to look for this on the back of your ballot in order to vote on it. It will not be where you would expect to see it right away. Please vote NO!
  16. I think the point being made is, it wasn't designed for deer hunting. it just turned out to be a great deer round, much like many other deer rounds. Nothing wrong with creating great deer rounds by accident or unintentionally.
  17. No, that's why we call them "Democrats". They're the one's who are not being honest about their gun control agenda.
  18. It's a respectable black bear for NY state and is pretty chubby, so I wouldn't be surprised if it went 300.
  19. If my eyes didn't give me fits these days, all of my lever guns would only have iron sights. The scope, even the 2X, throws off the balance and handling and makes the rifle feel awkward to me. But I need it to focus on the target.
  20. I like less scope on a lever and then low rings work fine. A 2-7x33mm would've been my choice. My Marlin 336 .35 Rem has a straight 2x Leupold with the simple 20mm objective and I have never needed more power when hunting with it.
  21. He lied when he said he was pro-gun. More proof Democrats are the anti-gun party. http://www.guns.com/2017/10/26/new-york-congressman-giving-nra-donations-to-gun-control-groups/?utm_campaign=trueAnthem%3A+Trending+Content&utm_content=59f1e5b104d30124014befe6&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=facebook
  22. I you use a Barnes TSX in 85 grain or better, the .243 will do most of what the .260 Rem will. I think it could handle everything you could ever hunt in NY quite well. I'd keep the .243 and use Barnes bullets and go with a new .338 Federal rifle, considering the other rifles you mentioned you already own. Why .338 rather than .308? The .308 is best with a 150 grain bullet in it, whereas the .338 Federal uses much heavier bullets.
  23. I met him yesterday in Stamford. He was Pataki's DEC Commissioner. We talked Grouse hunting and he invited me to call him and grouse hunt with him. I believe he is the CEO of the Ruffed Grouse Society right now. I wasn't able to get his phone number, but have a few ways to try and contact him. I was just wondering if he frequents this site or if anyone knows him. You can message me if you like.
