It definitely will. You need to rattle after making sure there are no deer around looking for you. You can do it in short brush on the ground to conceal movement, but then you can't see as far and the wind becomes a factor. I rattle when I see no movement and hear no sounds of deer near me for a long time. Then I'll do a series of tickles and one or two fights. But it only lasts about 1 or 2 minutes max. Then I put the antlers down grab the weapon and sit still for at least 30 minutes looking for any sign of movement and listening for any sound at all. Often deer will approach the area when things stop happening. Curiosity I guess. But I must say, I have had some deer trot in while I was making a racket and never saw me. I think their fast trot coming in prevents them from seeing my movement.

I rattle antlers a lot. It works for me a lot. That's one of the reasons for the handle I use here. Been doing it for decades. Not all the time while hunting, but at least one attempt every time I hunt deer. Experience teaches you what works and when it will work. Most bucks that come in are smaller ones. My best score was a nice 8 point. I suspect a few saw me before I saw them too. I could never give up rattling while deer hunting. It would be too depressing for me.

The problem with all of these government agencies is, they continue to seek more power and more regulation that extends way beyond their original mandate. They morph into government behemoths that exert influence way beyond anything that would resemble constitutional authority. If these agencies were kept under control and forced to limit their scope to things that didn't destroy businesses and liberties, maybe they wouldn't be under attack at this time. They have all let power go to their heads and it is being used to abuse the populace now. That's the reason many are being considered for extermination. The BATFE is a perfect example of a Federal agency that has no constitutional mandate to even be in existence, and has a history of malfeasance that would make the gestapo jealous. These agencies need to be reigned in or eliminated. EPA, DOE, Ed Dept, DEA, DOT, NAFTA, FAA, etc., have all become enemies of the civilian population in America, when they were supposed to be agencies that would improve the quality of life for Americans. Forget about the good they do. If the bad they do far outweighs the good, they need to be stopped.

I've had two Ruger No. 1's in the past. One in .30-06 and one in .300 Wby. Both were beautiful rifles, but I found them to be on the heavy side for hunting, so I sold them. (BTW, I found them to be quite quick to reload after taking a shot) I love single shots though. I have a couple of single shot shotguns as well as my T/C Hawken ML now. But no matter what I carry when hunting, I consider a one shot kill to be the goal.
