  1. The problem with the .308 is it's difficulty handling heavy projectiles. That is why they came up with the .338 Federal. It may be the best black bear cartridge ever invented. It will shoot out of a .308 length short action while providing the energy of a .35 Whelen. It also provides a trajectory similar to a 180 grain .308 bullet. Plenty of energy out to 400 yards to kill even an Elk. Black bear are not hard to kill, but they are hard to get a good blood trail from, especially if the bullet doesn't penetrate clean through the animal. The hide's fur tends to close up wounds fast and blood trails can be short, even when the bullet punches through both sides. If I were in the market for a new rifle to hunt black bear, it would be a Kimber 84M in .338 Federal. And if I were going to be hunting mostly in the rain, it would be a Montana model. Top it with a Leupold VXIII in 2.5x8 and you would have an excellent black bear rifle that will do much more than that if needed. Here's all the info you could want on the round: http://www.chuckhawks.com/338_federal_first_look.htm
  2. These online e-mail alerts are available as well. They keep people informed on many issues too. https://www.nraila.org/email/grassroots-alerts/2017/vol-24-no-14-040717/
  3. Join the NRA and get The American Hunter magazine. Not only will you like the hunting articles, you will also be kept up to date an all the things that threaten hunting these days.
  4. The problem is people don't abide by laws they do not agree with. Prohibition was the best example. Speed limits are the most common. When people have good reasons to ignore a law, the law will never accomplish what it is meant to do.
  5. Took a while to load but I got it.
  6. I would like to see them do an article on women who hunt in the USA. Heck, the paper is right in NYC and there are plenty of women hunters in NY State. Why go all the way to Norway?
  7. I used to search out what was for sale by people nearby. Used to be able to drive over to their place and buy privately with cash. Really saved a lot of money on shipping and didn't need the FFL to transfer. You can still shop local, but need to have an FFL do the transfer. Many sellers have made arrangements for that to accommodate local buyers.
  8. Whichever elected hack in that county approved this, should be immediately impeached by the constituents. There must be some really stupid citizens in that county.
  9. Why are taxpayers paying for a special lawyer to defend a criminal? What's wrong with the regular public defender?
  10. He should donate all of his pay to the NRA. That would really set off all the leftists!
  11. I've bought and sold many firearms on Gunbroker.com. Ask lots of questions about things not mentioned in the listing and check the sellers feedback. Feedback will let you know if the guns he's sold prior were making his buyers happy or not.
  12. Americans have allowed elected elites to become our version of royalty. the citizens have the power to stop all of this nonsense and refuse to pay for any of this stuff. If members of Congress were to vote against it, it would stop. If the people elected members of Congress willing to stop it, the problem would be solved.
  13. It's political doublespeak in effect when illegals are called immigrants. George Orwell predicted all of this in his book "1984". He foresaw the government's desire to control the masses and extrapolated how it would happen. It's amazing how US citizens can easily find all the info they need to understand how they are being manipulated, yet adopt a level of apathy so immense, they willingly accepting their own demise. The government has truly gained control of the masses already.
  14. That 4 point is probably 4 years old already, but just happens to possess poor genetics in the antler department. Or perhaps, the smart deer have learned not to grow that extra point to survive the season. Just to clear something up, I did not shoot that buck. I just saw it online on a whitetail site.
  15. Can you see the problem with using points to decide what's legal?
  16. The Constitution doesn't give the government the authority to give out grants either. There are a lot of things the government has become comfortable doing because the people have allowed it to get away with it without any challenge.
  17. It has long been proposed the government has no power under the Constitution to fund any charity with tax dollars. This story proves the debate has been going on for some time. It also proves those who want the government to fund charities, will often not contribute to them directly. It's easy to be charitable with someone else's money. Stephen Moore: "One of my favorite stories of American history dates back to the 19th century when Col. Davy Crockett, who fought at the Alamo, served in Congress. In a famous incident, Congress wanted to appropriate $100,000 to the widow of a distinguished navel officer. Crockett took to the House floor and delivered his famous speech, relevant as ever: 'We have the right, as individuals, to give away as much of our own money as we please in charity; but as members of Congress we have no right to so appropriate a dollar of the public money. … I am the poorest man on this floor. I cannot vote for this bill, but I will give one week's pay to the object, and if every member of Congress will do the same, it will amount to more than the bill asks.' Crockett was the only member of Congress who donated personally to the widow, while the members of Congress who pretended to be so caring and compassionate closed their wallets. It all goes to show that liberal do-gooders were as hypocritical then as they are today."
  18. He seems to have been comfortable around firearms.
  19. This is the problem with mass immigration and supporting "refugees" from terrorist hot beds. This guy nails it! Gary Bauer: "This is what the Left means when it talks about the 'fundamental transformation' of America, using massive flows of immigration to change America the way Europe is being changed. The Left rejects the idea of American exceptionalism. It rejects assimilation, the idea behind e pluribus unum: out of many, one. That is why the Left is increasingly outraged by displays of patriotism. Earlier this month, an Iowa high school apologized after students at a basketball game showed up wearing red, white and blue. Are you kidding me?! American kids showing pride in their country should not be offensive. What is offensive is that a young girl within a short drive of the White House was raped in a school restroom by thugs who shouldn't have been in the country. By the way, if immigration agents had caught up with [Henry] Sanchez-Milian [one of the perpetrators] and raided the apartment or home where he was living prior to last week's attack, he would have been presented on the evening news as a victim, another 'dreamer' whose dreams were cut short by Donald Trump. It seems to me that we should be devoting more effort to figuring who is dreaming of helping America and who is dreaming about assaulting our daughters."
  20. For $700, you are getting a very good price for them. Take them all and pay the $700. The Fox is worth about $500 on it's own. The .35 Rem Marlin is worth at least $300. The 03-A3 is worth at least $500 too. All of the others are worth at least $100 each.
  21. Affirmative Action has proven to be Forced Mediocrity.
