Let's See How Far This Gets
Rattler replied to Steve D's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Even if the bill passes, the state legislatures that don't want it will start rescinding the permits as fast as they can with all sorts of charges against anyone who has a permit. This isn't the way to do it. Having the SCOTUS rule on it once and for all is the only way it will happen. -

Basically they take away the guns they know about, but maybe not all a man has, without due process and work on the principle of guilty until proved innocent. Totally unconstitutional. In the case of a man who is a real violent threat to society, they take guns from him, but can't be sure he won't get one anyway, and then leave him among the innocent to figure out some other way to kill people if he can't get a gun. If a man is showing real "red flag" signs, why isn't he put in a nut house after a judge finds him to be a threat? Because it's about the guns, not safety. -
Go Fund Me Account For the Wall
Rattler replied to Steve D's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
"In 2019, the federal government will spend a whopping $4.407 trillion. Yet Congress and the president are shutting down the government in a dispute between the $1.3 billion the Democrats have approved for border security and the $5.7 billion the president is demanding — precisely 0.0998 percent of the total federal budget. In Washington, that is considered a rounding error. ... But now we are shutting down the government over a wall much like the one that Pelosi and Senate Democrats fully supported just five years ago?" —Marc A. Thiessen -
Well, there was this huge bag of catnip in the trash, or at least that's what the kid running from the cops said it was when he threw it in there.

Does NY now require this rifle to be shipped to an FFL from Midway?

Caught this guy going through my trash can..He was pretty muddy so I brought him in for a bath. Gonna keep him as a pet.

Be sure it has a JM stamp first. If I recall correctly, the newer guns made by Marlin didn't have it. It also helps to say it has no cross bolt safety when it was made prior to that foolishness. I already own the exact same rifle. Can't justify two of them, but I'm trying to.

Jdubs, would you be so kind as to expand a little on the reasoning for this? Does it increase the metabolism and caloric burn rate or help with energy? I may want to incorporate these things into my regimen.

When starting out, I would recommend lots of cardio and a little weight lifting. When you start working out, you will want to quit when you run out of breath. You will also feel like you cannot do it and that will cause you to quit. I found riding a bicycle was best for me. You get good cardio and low level muscle work at the same time when the route you travel requires some effort. Also, low impact cardio is a lot easier on your skeletal frame than running marathons. You don't want back and knee problems in your 50's. (Swimming is also great if you have access to a good pool.) I planned a 5 mile bike loop that started off easy and gently sloped downhill, then it leveled for 1 mile, which I pedaled through to get the resistance. The last mile was a gradual uphill slope that really gave the muscles a good workout after they were completely warmed up. Riding a bike like this uses most of the muscles in your body simultaneously, but not to the point of over exertion. The uphill portion uses the upper body too, as you tend to stand when pedaling and use your arms for pulling. Plus, you can't quit until you get home again. LOL! I also find the time you have to think to yourself, while the scenery rolls by, is quite relaxing and helpful. The breeze while riding feels good too. With time and progress you move into longer rides, heavier weights and longer workouts. That's good progress. One other thing worth mentioning. Take your current measurements. Neck, chest, biceps, waist and thighs. You want to sculpt your body to the desired dimensions as well as get rid of fat. Losing weight is required up to a point, that being getting rid of the fat. But muscle is heavier than fat, and at a certain point you will want to gain weight again. The measurements will get smaller where you want, like your waist, while getting larger in the chest, legs and arms. This is good weight gain, because it is muscle mass, which is what you are really after. At this point eating enough food to feed the higher consumption of calories your body is using, will require you to eat more food, albeit the right foods, to put on more of the muscle mass. That's when you move out of the losing weight class, and transition into the body building class. Keep in mind this may take a long time, even years. But as long as things are moving in the right direction, you are winning. Never give up because the results are slow in coming. It has to become a lifestyle. Think how long ago it was you were in the shape you want to be in now. How many years did it take to go from there to the shape you are in now? Don't assume it will take any less time to reverse all of that, it will take lots of time, but in reality, it will take far less time if you are doing it all correctly. You have made a great decision. It's up to you to carry it through. I'm motivated by the thought that once a man let's himself go too far, he hits the point of no return. That's the point where the work and will power required to get back in shape is virtually impossible for mortal men to accomplish. Catch the situation soon enough and you can make it happen. Once there, you will be proud of yourself. That being said, you will also have to keep up the lifestyle (work) for the rest of your life if you wish to remain proud of yourself, stay healthy and live longer. I find having grandchildren motivates me to do that. Beat of Luck and Much Respect!

Too big for mice though. Plus, $200 to start and monthly expense for bait and CO2 charges, (which have to their screw in types) can add up. If you have a real expense rat or squirrel problem, it may be worth it, but for mice it's too much.

I didn't say they were aggressive while they are stoned. But what about when they are no longer stoned. Is it possible the THC lingering in the bloodstream causes a common addiction malady, namely aggressive behavior in the quest to smoke another joint? Does a pot smoker exhibit signs of agitation towards unrelated things when they are jonesing for another high? You've seen some of the videos of the screaming, the yelling and the violent attacks by today's youth, right? (all of which they justify in their minds with very tortured and convoluted thinking) Perhaps that is the cause of the uptick in societal violence in today's youthful leftist's. I find it hard to imagine none of these youthful deviants are not smoking pot. Many probably smoke a lot of it. There really hasn't been a lot of research done on all the effects dope has on people. Science usually provides answers when society starts to ask why there are problems. It's reactionary. To say weed doesn't create any problems is denial. It's quite obvious it does when someone who is under it's influence makes a command decision to drive a car. Ergo, it would be logical to assume being under it's influence would cause people to make equally bad decisions in many other areas, which could cause harm to other people. It would also be within the realm of probability to assume these people may be influenced by it's use long after the high dissipates. Let me once again bring this thread full circle. Cuomo is acknowledged by many here to be a leftist and a tyrant. He makes proposals everyday that directly attack your freedoms in every area of your life. He has proclaimed his disgust with our lifestyles and has said we don't belong in NY at all. Is this bone he is throwing out to the masses going to cause many people to support his oppressive policies for fear he won't go through with it, or will repeal it after the fact? It's a clever political ploy that has been used by unscrupulous oppressors and dictators for centuries. When your enemy offers an olive branch with his left hand, you should be looking to see if he has a rock in his right hand. -

This is why I cannot engage in an intellectual level of debate with you. Civility is a skill that controls the debate. Without it, the debate devolves into an argument. I'll have to research the effect pot has on aggression in people who use it. I believe that was one of the things cited when it became illegal worldwide, not just in the US. Either way, Cuomo is going make it legal, while he takes away many of your actual constitutional rights. At least being stoned will help people tolerate the tyranny. -
There is a ton of land open to hunting there, but it's steep mountain terrain. Currently there is very little snow, but winter often provides snow that's 2 feet deep. Hunting pressure is almost nothing after deer season ends, and the past few years even deer hunting hasn't been much pressure. Very few other outdoor pursuits put any pressure on the area either. There are pockets of the area that will have decent small game hunting. Same for predators. But a lot of the area has little game to speak of, since it's such a huge area. You will see lots of bear sign in the remote areas, but the density of other game is very light. Lots of miles walked for every grouse flushed in most of the region. You really need to know where the pockets of game are in that area to be successful.

I have a Leupold VX 3i 2.5 - 8 x 36 on my Kimber Hunter .22LR. It fits the rifle well, has great image quality and seems to be the best variable magnification for the ranges the rifle is used for. The rifle is a one hole shooter at 50 yards with the Eley Match ammo. I shoot Ritz crackers at 100 yards with it. No target junk to pick up and feeds the birds at the same time.

2018 HuntingNY Whitetail Challenge Winners!
Rattler replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in 2018 HuntingNY Whitetail Classic
I just found this thread. Didn't realize the contest ended. LOL! Congrats to the winners. Some big numbers posted up there. Great season for you guys. The rest of us need to get some youth hunters out in the field next deer season. When I was a youngun, the older guys would get tired of all the pestering from young hunters to take them hunting. Makes me sad to know how much things have changed. -

It might be helpful to point out many people voted for Cuomo so they could get pot legalized. They seemingly forgot the other 4 things listed in the OP would also come with that vote. The govt is still controlling people. It's just found a more effective way of doing it. The animals on the farm will always vote for the farmer because he feeds them, even knowing one day the farmer will slaughter them. Just to be clear, I don't think drugs should be illegal. Never should have been. That's where the crime and murder comes from. Too much money in it to be ignored. But I would never recommend anyone take up drug abuse or alcoholism to deal with life. Many people thought they could just dip into those lifestyles, only to find they fell in completely. That's when society pays the price to try and help them out. That's how the govt justifies stopping people from doing it to start. As long as there are people with little will power in society, the costs to help them will always be a taxpayer's burden. Now if we all agree to just let them be when they get in trouble, I'd be good with legalizing everything with drugs and booze. But with men like Cuomo in office, who don't believe anyone can be accountable for their poor choices, I don't see that happening. -

It's true pot doesn't kill brain function like alcohol does, it has it's own way of accomplishing that. Peer reviewed research did prove pot had negative effects on people and society as a whole. That's why it became illegal everywhere. Today, the government has decided to allow all sorts of miscreant behavior to thrive to buy votes. Just as prohibition proved alcohol was desired by the majority of the population, pot is also desired by a large portion of the population. Is booze or weed a benefit to society? No. Does it cause society harm and create expense for taxpayers to deal with? Yes. Laws today are passed more often to buy votes then to benefit society. Today you can do all sorts of things that used to be considered major violations of American values and social mores. Drugs, booze, abortion, casual sex and pornography are a few examples. Are any of these things being presented to children as good values? It's just the government's apathy towards quality of life and it's surrender to the overall decline of moral and ethical values. If you believe weed is really a good thing for America, tell me this, are you promoting it's use with your progeny? If not, there must be a reason why you do not. -

First off, I said people who've smoked a lot of weed. 2nd, how well are most college grads doing these days? Grade inflation is a real thing because many students are really not with it for the 4 years they are in college. BTW, MOST college kids DON"T spend 4 years "partying". Only the losers do. Doing copious amounts of alcohol has proven to kill brain cells. Doing lots of pot, or any mind altering drug, does the same. I know more people who smoke lots of weed who are not doing well, than I know who are doing well. I'm also acquainted with many very successful people who neither drink nor do drugs. I base my opinion on my own personal observations. I think peer reviewed research would verify my suspicions. Feel free to disagree. -

I don't know about you, but I find it pretty easy to point out the people who've been smoking pot for many years. I'm not surprised at all by how many people smoke it. I'm surprised by how many don't think it has retarded their abilities to succeed in life. Sure many are doing well, but who's to say they couldn't have been doing better? Anyone who thinks smoking a lot of weed doesn't have any affect on your mental capacities, is smoking too much weed. -
Government shutdown over wall funding
Rattler replied to Hunter007's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The EPA cost taxpayers billions a year and they fine people huge amounts on top of that. There is no evidence we are getting any type of ROI supporting that agency. Pollution can be controlled much less expensively without supporting a huge govt agency that wields power it has no constitutional right to wield. Same goes for the TSA. Huge money spent on that agency and they have never stopped any terrorist from doing anything. I'm talking about cutting govt waste. The agencies that are currently shut down are the ones that waste the most. Too many employees, doing too little productive work, causing too much grief, with zero accountability. Close them all down if they can't institute efficiencies and respect peoples rights. Put the BATFE in there also. -

Have the IRS take out as little as possible and make them wait for the $200 or so dollars you need to pay when you do your taxes. I've had my money all year earning interest. Screw the IRS.
